  • @crabbensmasher read the story for the album :-D!! Anyways, in my opinion, this song can be interpreted to be anything so that the current listener can find something to relate to. Some people hear it and think of their alcohol addiction, while others their cutting issues, or perhaps some just think of their life as an outcast. It all depends on you.

  • Is this song about cocaine, or the oscar wilde book?

  • My favorite memories of all time!!..Seeing SAVATAGE live!! 1990!!!..Chriss Rules!!!..FOREVER!!!

  • one of the best bands off all time! SAVATAGE RULES!

  • I still have a stick from DR KILLDRUMS

  • Rip Chris we miss you

  • RIP Chris we miss you

  • What a beautiful mind and skills mr. Chris Oliva...

May your soul rest in peace

  • Monkey that I have found is talking about alcohol. The song is about being alone at night, and time again, being lost and using his friends. Just this monkey means John is speaking of alcohol as I stated previously.

Something this motleycrue person or motley crue themselves woun't ever do, since they were to busy feeling the needle.

  • what the hell does jon mean when he says "but no one seems to be around

except this monkey that i've found still he is my only friend And tonight he grins again" never understood it the only conclusion i come up with is monkey is a drug but why would he call it a monkey

  • can we find somewhere the rest of the video with "when the crowds are gone"?

  • This is one my favorite Savatage songs, would almost make me cry during puberty xD

  • criss rocks he's the best guitar player ever hate it or love it

    R.I.P

  • one of the best metal bands in the world

  • @fukinblowme what ever asshole. you are a pice of shit.

  • @ShadowsConcealed6783 I'd be a piece of shit if I went on stage and put in a performance like this. Check out the fat slob for a singer, wtf. I guess the guy doesn't have any pride. This type of musician geek music was embarrassing, it just ain't fuckin cool in any way shape or form. It makes talented musicians into dorks.

  • @fukinblowme You don't need to go on stage to be a piece of shit asshole, you were BORN a piece of shit LOL

  • @fukinblowme how about you get off your fake account and stop trollin on videos talking about nothing that you know apperance isnt everything its about the music troll..you really need to get out more

  • @motleycrue24 My fake account ? Looks like a real account to me lol...and fuck that noise about the music being the only thing that matters. A Jazz guy performing in a chair can never match the energy and showmanship of the greatest Rock bands. With all of his knowledge about scales he still knows dick about how to entertain. A musician owes it to his audience to keep himself in shape and not take the stage looking like a slob. Who's trolling btw, I've stated my educated p.o.v.. This shit blows.

  • @fukinblowme and how many albums have you sold again?

  • @motleycrue24 What would that prove ? Are you hoping to imply that because a band has had some success with sales that their music is somehow better than music from a band that hasn't had similar success ? If you say yes, then you're ignorant and dumb. Then again a person would have to be ignorant and dumb in order to believe that this embarrassment of a band is worth getting into. You can just look at the titles of their songs and tell that they're crap. This band doesn't meet a high standard.

  • @fukinblowme dude your tottaly stupid am i imply that because a band has had some success with sales that their music is somehow better than music from a band that hasn't had similar success? no because here is the proof /\ right on the video this band never had barley any commercial success compared to any other band i listen to....hey man i sometimes dont like other bands but i aint going to put em down just because i dont like em.sometimes other ppl dont understand other bands music

  • @motleycrue24 I can't argue with someone who likes Shotgun Messiah. There's an example of a band that was criminally underrated. Peace man.

  • @ShadowsConcealed6783 Atleast I'm not a fat slob.

  • @fukinblowme What's REALLY embarrassing for you, is when the neighbor's cats laughed as you pulled down your pants to give them the "business" LOL!!!

  • I think Tampa awards was the last performance where jon and criss were both on stage and jon was singing.......

  • @SlashRulez93

yes it was. Chris was killed by drunk driver before they peformed at the nearby "LIVESTOCK" concert. A very tragic accident and great loss for metal fans.

  • @TampaCane2 I think Criss and Dawn were just on their way to attend Livestock. I don't think he was performing. My drummer and I went to the Livestock festival in Z'hills that year and I don't remember Savatage being in the lineup. Of course, those days are a bit of a blur for me. Too much "mother nature", you know? Anyway, Criss was the greatest. My biggest influence on guitar.

  • overall favorite album of all time. great great song.

  • hey, fock you!!!

  • NO, fuck this soulless wanker guitar geek bullshit. This is why musicians should never pursue music degrees.

  • @fukinblowme you're so stupid... if you don't like the band, the song or this kind of music, don't come insulting us... _|_

  • one of greatest guitarist in the world

    R.I.P CRISS

    WE MISS YOU

  • Comment removed

  • @kendostick58

    Yes, that is Criss play.

  • Great performance! TSO is impressive in their own right and led me to this band, but it's a shame I'll probably never get to see them play live. A Jon Oliva and Zak Stevens concert would be simply amazing.

  • today marks the 16th aniversary of that terrible day that Criss olivia was killed by drunk driver. Criss we love you and miss you, you're music will always live on in the hearts of Savatage fans.

  • We Want To See Savatage Live For One Last Time......Savatage Reunite...........!!!

  • Jesus ',' do this miracle please .......

    I WANNA SEE AGAIN

    ALL TOGETHER NOW

  • @demondeepurple mee 2! I would hand over my soul to heaven for one last live with criss breaking our minds with his guitar and jon to make the earth shake with his divine voice!!!

  • @SavatageOrDeath I think that they have proven with all of the post-Criss releases that there is plenty of life left in the old machine! If we have to get a release and tour between every couple of TSO releases, I would be happy.

  • @SavatageOrDeath I want to see Savatage for a first time... Never came to Australia...

  • @maskeddebator1 neither i have ever seen savatage live...i was ten years old when they came t Greece...

  • Great video of Criss Oliva. My favorite guitarist of all time...

  • well who is playing the piano?? does anybody know? I have no idea what Paul looks like...

  • john zahner i guess

  • Epic!!! so powerfull. Perfect performance and singing.

  • Best Band & Best Vocal & Best Artist !!!

  • BEST GUITARIST :D

  • thanks for all the guys who really likes savatage , and we know all well thats savatage is a great band not known on the states ( thats make me wonder ) and i hope if i could seeing them playing in a concert in my country .

sorry about my bad english , i am huge fans of savatage from egypt

  • i missed them.........

  • C'mon Youtube people, let's get the name of SAVATAGE out there, I have been a fan fo almost 20 years, and people I talk to have no idea who they are, but oh, TSO is well known. Tell the radio stations to play them, keep requesting the tunes, don't let them, Chriss, disapear!!

  • We should try to help out Jon now... He's even said Savatage isn't ever coming back, I've read so many interviews and he says that what Savatage would be today is basically Jon Oliva's Pain, and TSO is WAAY to busy of a project to have 'Tage and JOP and TSO all at once. I've been a fan of Savatage since the first time I heard them and I'm only 18 now, but they're my favorite band for sure.

    Criss is my hero =]

  • I agree, but American radio will never put Savatage songs in mainstream rotation - their music is beyond the scope of the masses. They used to play it in the early 90s, but that's it. Check out my page for some RARE Sava Stuff!

  • Don't know much about the rest but my first gift as a CD was a Savatage selection. ..thist is for sure one of my favourite songs :)

  • Way before youtube, mainstream internet access etc...someone sent me this entire show on vhs... I watched it over and over.

  • Everytime I hear this, it gives me shivers...

I've heard it a thousand times and it still gets me haha

These guys are incredible my favorite band by far,

Criss played every riff and solo I've had stuck in my mind to play but could never get out haha

Not to mention he was almost 30 years older than me haha

  • what a masterpiece sometimes we all thank god for such great talents

  • this is jon last live preformance with savatage before zakk took over

  • Not his last performance with Savatage, but only his last as the lead singer.

  • thats what i meant then he left the band for a short time then came back and played piano and keyboards

  • beautifully sad!!!!

  • Such a wonderful moment in TIME... This was... So LONG ago... But it does not seem like that long! Yes... Jon was already... a bit fat... BUT WHO CARES!!! That Criss.... THAT FUCKIN CRISS!!! He just blows my balls off!... Even now... in 2008! Such a BAD ASS he was!!!
  • His high notes area amazing...they mix so well with his full voice.

Anyway, I wish they had the whole "When the Crowds are Gone" recorded live like this. One of my favorite Savatage songs...

  • I miss Chris! RIP dude. Going to see TSO on the 19th. Can't wait.

  • Best couple ever! Jon and Chris rock...

  • Chris and Jon 4ever!

  • where can I find the entire video of "when the crowds are gone" of this show?

  • yeah.....i've looking for this vid...i cant find it God damn...someone must post it...

  • Sadly, I belive the only people who will ever get to see all of "when the crowds are gone" from that show, were the people in attendance :( Savatage went over their alotted time & I belive the video camera's were shut off durring the "Tampa Bay Music Awards" logo at the end. It was a low budget awards ceremony & extra time & footage probably wasn't in the budget...

It would be REALLY NICE if I were wrong though & we could see the entire video.

  • Where do you find this talent today ?

  • you simple dont, and if u find any talent, it wont be anything close to the greatest talent and the greatest band ever SAVATAGE

  • Tampa, FL. Former guitarist Stevie Sherwood is trying to find band members to form a new group. He's hot as ever!

You can find him on myspace.

  • @hammerfistface no place

  • @hammerfistface Small clubs, really. The major bands are corporate shills, and the singers are all pretty faces with no substance.

  • trully fantastic

  • love this song ...This Is music ...What ever happen the music industry ...Hail Metal And artist like this

  • Criss Michael Olivia was the goods.

  • He has better performance than Plate!!!!He would have stayed in the band if the God Criss hadn't died!!!!its unfair!!!!

  • Wachholz left Savatage for health and working reasons.

  • you are so fucking wrong........Wacholz left the band cause he didnt want Zachary Stevens as lead singer......and he missed Criss Oliva....thats the true reasons,,,,,,,,,,

  • of course Wacholz is much better dont say stubid thinks!!!!!

  • GODS!!!

  • Wacholz is amazing!!!!

  • you are fucking wrong.....

  • Jon = God!

  • Favorite Savatage song ever.

  • I love this band

  • Damn....Doc is beating the hell outta that drumkit.

  • This is probably my favorite live footage of this band.

  • still miss you, criss:.(.

great band, grat song, jon is still the mountain king, now more than ever, he became really fat:)). saw him in germany in april 07.

  • How cool is this? Thanx for sharing this video!

  • 1992 - Jon Zahner on the Keyboard.
