He was the publisher of a newsletter. He was neither the writer nor the editor. It was managed by his campaign staff, who hired freelance writers.
Ron Paul has disavowed the comments, and said that the newsletters were supposed to be based on his economic theories.

And then, if a video surfaced from 1995, and showed Gingrich BOASTING about his newsletters, would ANYONE be so mindless as to STILL believe he knew nothing about it?

I can understand how an enthusiastic publisher can mistakenly write things that might hurt the very person they are trying to help. It happens all of the time. I can also understand how it can be that an extremely busy person like Ron Paul may have never seen a news letter written by a 3rd party. Paul is flat out denying he said anything of the sort. He has taken responsibility for being negligent in editing his newsletter. Most importantly, his actions over his political career have had no resemblance to the racist remarks you're referring to. In other words, the wrong that his opposition is focusing on is not his wrong at all, because he did not write the material in question. He afterwards denounced the content (which he did not write). He knew about the letters going out weekly, but did not write all of the stuffin them. If this is the biggest stone the media can throw at him (unjustly), he is by far the best candidate.
