my cousin has a stutter, my twin sister doesnt, i suffer from SM, my mother refuses to accept what i have is not a demand for attention, its a real problem.
the reasons i dont speak are complicated and in a nutshell boil down to the reasons why my sister and i were adopted.
my sister is my life support, when we are separated i cry for her and refuse to even speak at home.
i know i need help but i dont know where or how to begin
Anyone with sm please email me. I am doing a huge project on sm and would love to hear all your stories and try to give you inspiration because I am a recovered selectively mute kid
i almost decided to become a full mute when i was younger due to my studdering.... you know whats harder than being a mute? Spending 10 minutes out of your day trying to get a single sentence out. So i do actually, in a way understand what it must be like to live life and go through school being a mute.
@tylerhaunted Yeah, I think in some ways, stutterers have it worse than selective mutes, because they can never talk easily. But they must get more understanding from teachers because they actually get diagnosed properly. I should make a video about stuttering one day.
@Elemarth oh really? Well i'll try to pitch in whatever help i could give..... i dont have a video cam *no money* so i'll be more than happy to send you all the information just from my experiences to you
@tylerhaunted Well, I won't do it by webcam, but written like this. Though webcam would be interesting for this. I'd be interested in reading about some of your experiences by private message if you feel like it.
@Elemarth Yeah sure i dont mind it.... besides people should be less ignorant of the immense pressure that we studders have to go through. Not just what we have to go through to actually learn how to control our studdering, but the incredible amount of BULLSHIT we have to deal with from bullying, even ignorant teachers.
If it will help even one person grow up, or to learn about the stress of studdering, i'll help you out, send you a message or whatever.
@Elemarth I'll agree on stutters having it hard. I mumble and stutter my words due to two major factors: One, lack of social skills because of social anxiety. Two, being nervouse around others and thinking others are constantly judging me. Sometimes I think it's better to say nothing than to risk saying the wrong thing or saying it oddly.
You have taught me much about selective mutism. I now regret suggesting to one YouTuber that she say something short and positive to get talking again. I honestly didn't see it as hate speech, but I do, now! Thank you for opening my eyes a little wider! If you care to further enlighten me, please, feel free to e-mail me. I want to know about this. I had a friend who was suffered from this in elementary school. Being speech-impaired, myself, makes me even more eager to learn about SM.
I am a mom and have 9 years experience with my daughter who I first diagnosed myself, then by specialists, with selective mutism. Through it all, at home, I realized I had to teach her something that no one could take away, or alter with harsh words, and that is inner strength. An understanding that their ignorance is sad for them and should only lift her up, knowing inside herself what she is and is not. We were sure she knew she had out unconditinal love and support and that we were on her side
This is how felt in elementary school. My teacher use to say I was stuck up or stubburn in the fourth grade. Doctors use to tell me i have this and it seems exactly right. Now i talk more, but there are some situation's where still i can't do it.
you dont suffer this? yuo sure about that? wow, you can certainly empathise for people like me... i havent spoken in school since i was six and i have a twin who is so talkative we're literally like two opposite people, not twins at all, the only part of us thats alike is our appearance, i often get mistaken for Caoilainn but i'm the silent one, Aoife so you know... its hard work and when i get mistaken for caoilainn its even harder, thank you for this video
@wolfchicgalpal I'm sure, and so would you be if you saw me at school. I try my best to figure out how you feel.
Are you identical? That's interesting; identical twins usually share this. It must be hard if people are getting confused over whether you talk! Well, good luck.
Wow, you really understand SM!! Not many people do and it's hard to find people who do :( I feel like this all the time... and I love Kelly Clarkson and I often listen to this song on repeat... Haha. Anyways thank you!! :)
You sound like you understand it well. Not many people who don't have it can understand what we go through every day. Yes, I have SM. This video describes perfectly what I go through. Thanks for making this.
Oh and by the way, nice song choice (Hear Me). I used that in my video too. :)
Stony mask? C'mon. I know your big, creative brain can come up with something more original.
Other than that.... you've found your calling. The interaction between the words and the music is perfect -- timing, emphasis, the works. Very, very well done. And the poem is incredible. Kudos!
This is the second time I've done that - when I look at my video, "reply" is above "remove" and "remove" is easier to click. I'm really sorry. ImWalkingAfterYou said: I can really relate to this video. :(
I was going to say that I'm sorry that anyone feels that way, and good luck!
this is really realistic. If i hadnt of read the info box thing, i would've thought that this was a real person. I go through a lot of the stuff said in this video, and i can really relate to it. This is a good video.

Just one word...I can think of two words I'd like to say to them....
SilenTScreaMxLC 1 year ago
@SilenTScreaMxLC Dare I ask which? My guess is "shut up" or "f*** you", but it could be something more polite, like "I talk" or "go away".
I imagine you'd like to say a few thousand words to them.... I would if I were in this position.

@shewilltalk What an amazing penname you have. Welcome to youtube.
You sound like a great mom. Good luck!

This is the most accurate discription of selective mutism I've ever heard!!
I used to have it, and you did a great job of describing how it really is.

@foxwithwings13 Thanks, I'm glad it's accurate. :)

Thanks. It's more than a poem, I guess, because of the music and effects (fade vs. coming forward).
