  • Back when Green Day kicked ass??? That has yet to actually happen.

  • gee, i didn't even exsist when this was made. i missed out on soooo much!

  • this was when green day kicked ass, long time ago

  • Billy doesn't sound real British to me now when he sings. But when I was 15 he did to me.

  • @LedWilde LOL. Just by posting that i can see you know nothing about Green Day.

  • @98plee Just by you posting that I can see that I've known Green Day before you were born.

  • @LedWilde *Billie

  • @SGTCloudrunner Yeah, you're right.

  • they made up a new music genre just for green day its called awesome as fuck

  • I remember watching this on mtv when i was 14 they inspired me to play the guitar

  • I fucking love Green Day <3

  • The first line of this song always cracks me up xD

    <3 green day <3

  • this sounds weird but, i fucking his voice back then, 100% punk

  • @xXxDANMANxXx When they first came out with Dookie I thought they were British because of his vocals. Was surprised he had an American accent the first time I saw him talk.

  • skinny billie

  • A green day song is always the best when you are sick...

  • This is older than jesus (; xDD

  • I like Kurt Loder and Green Day but I remember the time Kurt Loder introduced Green Day... Maybe it was at Woodstock '94. Anyway, Kurt Loder was saying,"I love Green Day! They are Punk! I love Punk! I love Green Day!" And I was like, "Huh?" I don't think in the 90's Green Day were sellouts like people used to say back then but not real Punk. I think the album after the album "Warning" in the 2000's, they did become sellouts to some degree.

  • @LedWilde couldnt agree more man :)

  • @LedWilde When they signed on to make Dookie that counts as selling out in some Punk scenes.

  • @Aloverssoulz Yeah but they had their own sound. I don't think their musical expression was hindered or phony. Now they might have had a producer, which is kind of restraining and the only thing that would contradict what I said. But I don't think he stuck his nose in that much. They didn't sound like Nirvana or any other band around that time. So, to me, they weren't that much of sellouts.

  • @LedWilde Still though, as amazing as their albums are when they signed to the record label in 93' they were considered sellouts in the Punk community. Though I think Green Day aren't sell outs because they've changed their sound so much you can't really label them just one genre anymore.

  • @Aloverssoulz Yeah, that's true. In the Punk community they were considered sellouts. I also agree the term "Punk" is wrong to label them as anyway though.

  • @LedWilde They were punk, until dookie.

  • @summerofska siguen siendo punk

  • @summerofska Nope. Not until their rock Opera, American Idiot, is when they became almost Pop-Alt.

  • Any band that signs to a Major label is a sellout, so that must mean Ramones and the Sex Pistols are not Punk either? Sex Pistols were managed by their manager and basically told what to do .. Green Day did what THEY wanted to do.

Look at what Johnny Rotten is doing now, butter commercials and reality shows, has Green Day been in a reality show? No. Do Green Day appear is Gossip magazines? Hell no.

The Clash also went Political and changed their sound... has anyone heard Rock The Casbah? lol

  • O MY GOD I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • i'm kind of depressed i was like, 2 months old when this happened I LOVEEEE THISSSSS

  • @laulauhummz I was 15 when this happened. In my prime! lol Sorry. :)

Actually, March '94, this was 3 months before I turned 15.

  • @LedWilde wow i'm so jealous, i was a flippin' 2 month old baby -___- i missed out on like, so much of their career. the earliest i remember is from when i was 4 or 5, ahah. but ya know, i was a pretty cool 4 year old for listening to this..

  • @laulauhummz 4 was the same age I got into music too. Ah, don't feel bad! The music still remains here today. YouTube was invented to look at/listen to old music from the past. Either relive or live for the first time the music from the past. I know how you feel. One of my favorite bands, Led Zeppelin, broke up when I was age 1. At least Green Day is still a band.

  • @LedWilde very true. i'm so thankful for that. i finally got to see them live this summer, most adults were suprised we knew the old stuff. they're so awesome.

  • This is the real Green Day!

  • Green Day represents the punk rock philosophy more than any other punk rock band today. What is more punk? Playing the same sounding 3 chord music for decades, or expanding your musical sound as Green Day did? If Green Day isn't a punk rock band then the Clash must not be either since they expanded their sound as well, even more so than Green Day. Then again, whoever argues that Green Day is not punk probably never even listened to the Clash, let alone ever heard of them, true American idiots.

  • The White Stripes saw this.... They didn't like this.... They clicked "Dislike"....

  • @NJP695 idgi

  • OHHHHHHHHHH i get it wow that sucked. awesome video and song. we 5 star this?

  • ahhhhh old green day prob best green day yet!!! =D

  • Billie Joe is one fast strummer!

Noticed how fast he was when I seen him perform Good Riddance live, it's cool how fast he plays.

  • THIS is Green Day!

  • i dont what was the best the rocking guitar solo, epic bass solo, or super speed drumming at the end

  • @Orbitdog1 or the perfectly in-key vocals? :)

  • love this tune! doesn't get much better than this

  • Billie joe - the biggest showman on earth for years

  • If im not mistaken this is at SNL?

  • @jtessexpress It was a show on MTV called '120 Minutes' ... years ago

  • @jtessexpress You are mistaken, it is 120 Minutes.

  • Hey, this video is on Green Day: Rock Band.

  • @SGTCloudrunner alot of their older songs r haha

  • @SGTCloudrunner i broke my drum set playing the end for this song

  • O_O i wasnt even born lol

  • Mike wears that EXACT same shirt in the longview vid!

  • @jdude203 yah lots of people wear their shirts more than once

  • YES.

  • Ha I love watching billie rock out(:

  • I like them RAW

  • Lol'd at 0:07

    "haaate yuuuu >_<"

  • I disagree, I loved the old green day. It upsets me how horrible they are now a days. It is a totally different band IMO. This and JAR are my favorite songs. Thien listen to blvd of broken dreams, its fuckin horrible and anyone who disagrees is a groupie.

  • @willydeezle its not horrible, you just don't like it

  • @willydeezle actually anyone who AGREES with you has no taste in music

  • They've kept it rockin' for over 20 years!

  • amazing

  • billie joe should have Over dosed instead of lame ass rock opera crap. they suck balls now, just plain awful

  • Im a Chump!!!!!

  • this album is so revolutionary and it still is. It is so punk all the way.

  • this was 6 months before i was born :D

  • jeez..everyone keeps saying they went for the money....playing music is cool and if you get the chance everyone would take the chance. and they earned it, some of you have no idea how hard it is today...

  • @oreoh8r2006 sorry for the multiple comments, i did c my message load so i sent different messages of it and did realize all i had to do was move the screen down

  • @2323greenday and that also means that they went for the money and thats not very punk either

  • ppl got to stop rippin on them, they changed there music cause the music world was changing, to crap like hip hop and rap. so if they need to change there sound a lil just to survive then so be it. there the best damn band i've aver heard:) and @oreoh8r2006 i hope ur right cause tht would be amazing if tht does happen!!:)

  • ppl got to stop ripping on them cause to be honest they just did wht they needed to do in order to survive in the music world and if tht means a lil change in sound so be it. they're the best damn band i've ever heard:) and @oreoh8r2006 i hope tht happens cause i would love to hear the old stuff!

  • the clash is a clear influence in GD in songs like this :) i love it

  • sounds great live. most bands who play songs live sound terrible.

  • just to make sure I am right...This song is about the guy Adie was engaged to before Billie and her got married....right?

  • Comment removed

  • @GreenDayJ17A13 this song came to mind in college when this girl left me for another guy. half of the people i knew said he was nice and the other half said he was a full of crap douche. i did not know him at all and he was then my biggest enemy (emphasis on biggest, he looked like a taller fatter version of me.) and i wanted to beat him with a pipe. she married the f***er. but she was a bitch, lol. now i know the guy must be miserable, and she doesnt believe in divorce. god works in funny ways

  • @jflores85 Wait, I am confused. You are saying you wrote the song when Billie wrote it.....Unless you are Billie. :D

  • @GreenDayJ17A13 no, it popped into my head when all that happened. Its like my brain had a playlist setup.

  • Comment removed

  • My birthdays on the 20th march.

  • @rudeboymd good for you, no one cares.

  • this is probably one of their best performances...

  • dookie and insomniac are my two favorite albums...they were at their peak there...the rest of the albums aint bad either their first two are awesome too but dookie every song is a hit to me cause the whole albums good...brings back mem. when i bought the cd in 1995 being a little kid

  • im a bit differnt i got into green day from american idiot and worked backwards and i loved them from american idiot and think there madass old school

  • @CharlieP078 I got into them from 6 months before 21st Century breakdown came out. Their earlier stuff is fucking epic.

  • Actually, I think I'd give Warning a 7. It has some great songs, but it also has a lot of bullshit.

  • 39/Smooth - 4 (1039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours much better) Kerplunk - 8 Dookie - 10 Insomniac - 9 Nimrod - 8 Warning - 7.5 International Superhits - 9 Shenanigans - 4 American Idiot - 9 21st Century Breakdown - 6.5 21st Century Breakdown is American Idiot without the innocence. They did American Idiot to save their career with something fresh without really knowing what the hell they were doing, but 21st Century Breakdown is just "Ok, we found something that works, let's do it again"
  • of course shenanigans is gonna get a 4,it's a collection of B-sides plus 3 covers.

  • no shit?

  • Well they plan on not doing another rock opera for their next album. From what I've read and heard in interviews, they're going back to the classic Green Day sound. I give all of their albums 10 (out of 10 of course) because each is unique and has a certain something about it. I love everything from the beginning till more then likely the end (which I'm sure won't happen for a very long time.) As much as I liked AI and 21stCBD I'm looking forward to something that isn't a rock opera.

  • @oreoh8r2006 i hope ur right about the whole back to the old sound thing tht would be amazing! and for other ppl tht think tht thy're not punk anymore well screw u cause they changed sound to survive in the music world. cause now its rap and hip hop and crap like tht. there the best damn band i've ever heard:)

  • @2323greenday Yeah, as much as I love American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown, a regular "punk" album would be lovely

  • @2323greenday you say it yourself already they changed there sound to survive so they dont make punkrock anymore! so there not punk

  • I doubt it, it'll be like Warning probably. Once punk bands lose it and go soft that's usually it

  • @oreoh8r2006 I cant find anywhere where they said there hoping to stop opera rock and go back to there old sound?

  • @StillRumouredStudios It was in an interview from a while back, but in a more recent interview, Billie said they'd be doing something like a rock opera again.

  • @oreoh8r2006 Omg.!!!!!!!!!!

  • @oreoh8r2006

Why would they want to do that? Haven't they had enough of Rock Operas? I mean like, sure, okay, don't call them sell-outs yet - but if they do make another rock opera (and probably because its sells more), then you can start calling them sell-outs and might realize that THEY, out of all bands, would actually turn the definition of punk into something you can use over and over again for nothing..

  • @oreoh8r2006 amen to that :D

  • @oreoh8r2006 if you're right, you just made me very happy. i love old green day. (but love new green day too)

  • @oreoh8r2006 The next album is probably going to be Cigarettes and Valentines. It's exactly like 90's Green Day, it was supposed to be the album after Warning but it mysteriously was stolen.

  • Comment removed

  • @oreoh8r2006 like ciggarettes and valitines (made in 2002 but they didn't put it in shenaningans) or... more punk???

  • @oreoh8r2006 I'm ready for another Nimrod...

  • @chabowker I would say 39/smooth best

  • You are correct :]

  • i was there in 94 in hamburg.......they were supporting bad religion....still like them

  • oh when will you all stop whining about "old", "new" Green Day and shits like that! There isn't "old" and "new", there's only one Green Day! Okay? They still win awards, like they did last time - MTV's music award, 2009 - Best Rock Video, Best Direction in a Video, Best Cinematography in a Video ; and so on. Everyone can read wikipedia and see how much awards they won after 2004. INCLUDING 21st CB, of course. So why the fuck are you all whining about?!?!?

  • You were only born in the early 90s. You do see that those who listened to them for a whole decade in the 1990s can't accept that they changed. How long have you been listening to their stuff? If you started listening to them ever since their first shows, you'd see how hard it is to see something you loved to listen so much, change.

I learned that. I'm only 15 and I can see how the older fans miss the 90s. Sometimes it's not about the awards. I believe the 90s fans wanted the music more.

  • Junkpunker21, if you're 15[I'm 16, by the way] how come you're talking about early 90s and stuff :> If u know where I'm driving...

I've been listening to Green Day since Warning came out. Okay, maybe 2001. But still. I notice the change, too, but I still love them as hell, I can't imagine my live without their music. Even bands like Blink 182 and Linkin Park, that I think are super awesome[not as awesome as GD, duh] can't help me if I don't listen to Green Day...If you know what I mean :]

  • Hehe. Okay. Well, for some people, it's easy to relate to what you were never into before, such as Green Day's older material.

Yeah first started listening to Linkin Park but went on to listen to punk rock. I don't listen to Blink much but I have a few of their songs. Anyways, as a fellow Green Day fan, I believe we have nothing much to argue about. ;]

  • totally agree with u!

I don't even understand people who argue that American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown are not real Green Day... They're growing up like us, like their fans are growing up! I've been listening to GD since I was 6, since 1995. And I'm growing up with them! In American Idiot they talk about social issues, no more masturbation like in Longview, just because they're no longer young guys, now they're men! and I still love them! =] I believe they're saving me!

  • I couldn't agree more :)

  • Green Day finally has a Rock Band video game entitled Green Day: Rock Band coming out in 2010..

Sadly, the sneak shows them singing American Idiot and Billie wearing black and a thin red tie with the black messy hair and eyeliner.. The backgrounds are red and black..

Sometimes.. and I know some of you also had hopes that in the future, Green Day would be recognized for songs like 'Basket Case' and 'Paper Lanterns'. For Billie having blue hair and Tre with green..

    Now i'ts eyeliner..

  • I sure do but I think i'm still buying it because their gotta be old songs on it too

  • can't forget about mike's g-3, his bedhead, and his tanktop that's ALWAYS only on one sleeve

  • how do you know ( dude if this is true i will freak)

  • Search it on YouTube.. It's coming this year..

  • mmm maybe it's just because now they're men! not young boys. I loved them with blue and green hair (Tre was amazing!) but I still love them with eyeliner. What is important it's not the image and the clothes, it's the music. I believe they still feel rejects like in 1994, even if now stupid silly girls (who have just listened to wake me up when september ends and don't even know at the library!) are in front of the stage near old school fans!

  • I appreciate you for being a good fan. It's just.. the Ramones were already old and still sang songs like I Don't Wanna Grow Up or Teenage Lobotomy.

Maybe not the image because Mike Ness wore eyeliner. It's just.. why do they have to be so different? The Sex Pistols' single, God Save the Queen, was banned, how come Know Your Enemy wasn't? It makes me think, is 21stCB really that harmless? .. and that's still okay with Green Day?

I loved both sides but.. I saw the difference.

  • Yeah... I really agree with U.

  • You know, I think Warning was one of their most punk albums ever.

The music they made in their past albums were punk rock even if some of the lyrics to it were not really about punk but they were awesome.

Warning on the otherhand, was extremely satisfying. Look at how punk the lyrics of Warning and Minority are. So clever and catchy in could wipe-out American Idiot and 21stCB. Even Nice Guys Finish Last's lyrics is punk!

  • Green Day's punk but like to play Pop Punk songs. No one can beat them at pop punk. Imagine Pop Punk bands singing about girls nowadays but Green Day can totally beat them without sounding like whining boybands.

    Dookie - Pop Punk 10/10

    1,039/SOSH - Pop Punk 10/10

    Kerplunk - Pop Punk 10/10

  • First 3 get a 10

    insomniac gets a 7.5

    nimrod gets a 6

    warning 5

see what is happening? hah, but american idio is really good too, i dont like the new though

  • mike's shirt

  • i want it

  • i think 39/smooth- 10 kerplunk- 9.9 dookie- 10 insomniac- 9.9 nimrod- 8.8 warning- 7.5 international superhits- 7 shenanigans- 6 american idiot- 2 21st century breakdown- 3.1
  • Wow they look punk especially Mike. Well they were always punk in the inside

  • i love this man.. :)

  • very very good

  • 39/smooth - 7

    Kerplunk - 9

    Dookie - 10

    Insomniac - 9.5

    Nimrod - 8.5

  • Forgot Shnangans (Sorry I spelled it wrong)

  • ok shenanigans - 7

  • Well I think it is a 9/10

  • ok maybe 7 is a bit to bad i say 8

  • That is more like it.

  • insomniac > dookie

  • GREEN DAY ACABOU EM 2000....

  • everybodys opinion is different I think 1,039 is one of their best and american idiot deserves a little better then a 4.5 at least a 6 and warning is better and rest of the albums are just all good exapt 21st b its disapointing only a few songs are good

  • 39/smooth - 9

    Kerplunk - 7.5

    Dookie - 156378947896

    Insomniac - 9.5

    Nimrod - 9

    Warning - 7

    American idiot - 8.5 / 9

    21st century breakdown - 6

  • 39/smooth - 4 (1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours is much better) Kerplunk - 8 Dookie - 10 Insomniac - 9 Nimrod - 7.5 Warning - 7.5 American Idiot - 9 21st Century Breakdown - 7 I don't understand how people can like any other Green Day album more than Dookie. My guess is that they were turned on to Green Day by American Idiot and didn't grow up with Dookie like I did. I also think that Tre and Mike play phenomenally on Dookie, which is lacking on newer albums.
  • I think 21st century breakdown deserves nothing less than an 8. that said for me its a tie between american idiot and dookie they both get 10/10

  • smooth slappy : good

    kerplunk : great

    dookie : excellent

  • F*CKING GOOD PUNK!

  • MIkes Gibson Ripper was fucking raddd

  • green day's new stuff is is good. but it would be awesome if mike spiced up his bass lines.

  • mike has such a sweet bass

  • No ! thats the real billie joe , wath you see nowadays on " know your enemy video" is billies fatass mother.

  • i listen to them since i was 7 in the dookie era

  • hey i own all green day cd's i loveum all.however id love to give tre some of the chocolate box! lol

  • Oh Billie! He was just a dirty boy talking about drugs, and hate! :D Now, he's a big man.. xDD that's why everything changed, he grew up!! I'm still love green day! whatever I'm her fan, so I will follow their music always! this goes to the people who think that 21st century sucks, they prefer the old green day, I mean.. get over! They don't have 22 anymore!! Obviously, the old time was amazing, and anybody can't changed that, but, this time is so good too.. that's my point of view.

  • 39/Smooth - :DD

    Kerplunk - :DD

    Dookie - :::::DDDDD

    Insomniac - :::DD

    Nimrod - :::DD

    Insomniac 8.5

    Nimrod 9.5

    Warning 7.0

    American idiot 7.00

    21st Century Breakdown 5.5

  • Haha. I miss the beating the guitar while strumming, head twitching, maniacal staring, mike jumps, bad ass bass riffs, crazy attire, crazy drumming, etc.

  • I love all their music.

When I first heard them, I wasn't that into em, but they have grown on me y'know?

Well I have recently got right into their new ones like, 21 guns and Know your enemy, but the old stuff is just classic green day y'know??

  • chujowe jak na green day. polski punk not dead ;)

  • this is such a better performance than their newer shit.

  • Guys, of course Dookie is way better than American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown but that doesn't mean those two CD's are shit or crap. They wouldn't be taken seriously if they still wrote songs about girls, drugs and masturbation. They grew up, they are not 20 anymore. If you haven't noticed the new songs contain good and powerful messages. I don't see whats so bad about them now.

  • but i like masturbation :(

  • wow

just look at how they perform!

the look on billie's face, i wonder what was goin through that mind of his back then.....

  • great!

  • they're both good albums they're just WAY different it depends on how you look at it but Dookie is the best but that doesn't mean A.I sucks

  • Green Day seriously must stop making political songs

  • why? they are just writing songs the they want to not necessarily what the fans want.

  • yeah well it doesnt suit them

  • and they actually only made a couple political songs. American Idiot and 21st century breakdown are actually just Rock operas.

  • Actually most of the songs on those albums were political in a way except for a few songs like Wake Me Up When September Ends, Whatsername, Extraordinary girl, Last Night on Earth, Give Me Novacaine, and Restless Heart Syndrome(I dont know those last two songs I named might be political but the other ones arent). I like that they are writing about what they want, I just dont like political songs that much but the music is amazing.

  • THE green day that I love

well I don't know what billie joe had in his mind when he made century breakdown...I like some songs but the rest its so different...well last night on earth? Its a joke or what??
