  • My great great grandfather was among the crew of this vessel. Thanks for taking me there, if only through my computer.

  • damn i wanna have sight like that here in the waters where i live

  • @marclykkedk we can thank the zebra mussels. Since their invasion, the water has gotten more clear. But have driven off much of the fish.

  • @DAJDive - well clear water is always good, and as long as there is still some fish left it will be ok :-)

  • Wish I could have seen this video. My grandfather was on that ship when it went down.

  • Let's not forget that 52 people died in this disaster... Rest in peace to the lost.

  • handwritten note: "S.S. MILWAUKEE, OCTOBER 22/29 8:30 p.m. The ship is taking water fast. We have turned around and headed for Milwaukee. Pumps are working but sea gate is bent in and can't keep the water out. Flicker is flooded. Seas are tremendous. Things look bad. Crew roll is about the same as on last payday. (signed) A. R. Sadon, Purser."

  • there is only one railcar with wheel locks installed and all the tiedown chains were still hanging in there storage racks.people who seen it leave port said the ship hit a huge wave at the breakwall whick prob sent a loose rail car into its gate.

  • was there any cars on it when it sank? how deep is this?

  • There are railroad cars still on it. It is in 120 feet.

  • There are a few cars on this wreck. The wreck is so big that it can be dove at 80 where most of the deck is. 103 ft to the bottom, but you are looking up at the side of the ship.

  • How mant times have you been on this wreck?

  • About 50+ dives on it.

  • She sunk due to weather conditions and being top heavy.

  • @DAJDive I live in Chicago and I know Lake Michigan isn't too forgiving.

  • Sweet video. Love the shot of the ship's name on the pilot house.

I saw a photo of one of these car ferries heeled over from loading too fast on one side. Did they sink this on purpose for diving?
