  • Now that's how I used to get my laugh on at 10 years old, backin the day.

  • I guess Bert did get to sleep!

  • I never get tired of watching this, sublime, and I cant believe this is 41 years old.

  • LOL @ 2:26

  • I'm 35 years old and I can still watch Sesame Street skits and LMAO. Bert's facial expressions are classical.

  • Bert screaming like a little girl is hilarious! And Ernie's comeback remark ("Uh... One?") is hilarious!

  • Bert finally gets some sleep when he faints from balloon shock and awe!

  • This is one of the funniest Ernie and Bert sketches...Love Bert's scream...

  • I had no idea Ernie was a sorcerer who could manifest the sounds in his mind!

  • At least Bert got some sleep! LOL!

  • From 2:01-2:02, if I was Bert, I probably would have told Ernie to count giraffe's or mice since giraffe's and mice are both very quiet.

  • @afriendofbean On the other hand, mice would have been squeaking a lot!

  • @disneyfan85 That's true. Unless Ernie would have to imagine the mice not squeaking but, I guess the giraffe's would be better than the mice.

  • It's true, I guess, but you must know that fire engines are for emergencies only.

  • When Bert raises his eyebrows at 1:00 (the first time) it's simply priceless. Then it happens over and over again. And then... "Uh... one?" (Faint). LOL! And to think this was 40 years ago. They don't make it like this anymore.

  • great!

  • 1. 1:08 "Counting sheep is a pretty dull thing to do." Isn't that the point, Ernie?

    2. The ending with the balloon popping used to scare me as a little girl.

  • This even made my Dad LOL!

  • since when can other people hear your imagination?

  • @kjmolinar

Ernie must have a really really one.

  • Funny as HELL!!!!!!!! My sides are aching from the laughter. Bert's reactions are priceless!!!

  • I wonder if Ernie got any romantic thoughts after hearing the sheep bleat?

  • "Ernie that is no good you cannot count fire engines you'll wake up the whole neighborhood"

  • i love this one the end made me laugh so much

  • they need to get rid of "Abby's Flying Fairy School" and put stuff like this back on Sesame Street!

  • I love this clip! Imagination RUNNING wild, you count sheep, they make noise. You count the fire engine, they make noise. You count the balloon and it shakes up the entire house! Ernie knew how to make his imagination run wild literally!

  • This has to be my favourite Sesame Street clip of all time...Bert is hilarious!!!

  • @ezil82: If I were Bert, I'd be surprised to hear even the "dull" sheep making noise. Ernie's got one loud imagination!

  • "Uh, one!" XD! Classic!

  • bert and ernie are classic...

  • After when Ernie counts the balloons, Bert should count police cars with their sirens blaring and flashing. That way, it'll get Ernie's attention fast.

  • @JeffK1980 I don't think Bert has the kind of imagination that Ernie has.

  • I wonder if there is any significance to the fact that this skit came out the same year that "All in the Family" made its debut.

  • This was funny as a child but as an adult, this is sooo funny! I can't stop laughing at this one! Burt's facial expressions are priceless. I love the face he puts on at 1:48!!

  • How can anyone sleep in there anyway...?

    They left the lights on...!

  • It never occurred to Ernie to count things in his mind, I guess. LOL, this one's still a classic.

  • Don't Gordon & Susan live above them? I wonder if the big explosion woke them up too.

  • @quirpco

That is a very question question!

  • @quirpco If it did, it would have happened after the scene ended.

  • I love this. But there's another skit where Ernie goes to sleep dreaming about balloons. He sings a song about them. Then at the end, it fades into his dream, and you see Sesame Street covered in balloons. When I was a kid, I used to wish I could run through them all.

  • @MisterBIGM0UTH That was "Imagination." They remade it in the late 1990s but without the balloons falling onto Sesame Street; just into their bedroom.

  • @MisterBIGM0UTH Yes, that skit was where Ernie was scared of the dark and he told Bert that he was scared of dark shadows and monsters that go "wubba wubba" which he said. So Bert told him that he was imagining those scary things and told him that he can imagine nice things with whatever he likes. So he told Bert that he likes balloons, so Bert told him to imagine balloons. In a song he sang to Ernie to pretend balloons are surrounding him and at the end, the balloons became real.

  • If you want to know where a viever is almost POSITIVELY, ABSOLUTELY, and DEFINITELY guaranteed to laugh uncontrollably, check out Bert at both the the 1:22 and 2:30 marks of this classic clip. Too bad Ernie didn't just stick with sheep!

  • @d72jjpilc I meant 'viewer,' not 'viever.'

  • Also, if you see that 'smirk' on Ernie's face at the end, it makes you wonder if his 'mean streak' is in action against Bert once more, as it was in 'Purple Hand' and some other clips. My view, as always!

  • Bert in the end is classic. Haha.

  • Arguably, their best sketch.

  • Love This Clip.Burts Scream At The End Is So Funny!

  • This is one funny clip. Just as good now as it was thirty-nine years ago.

  • That balloon bursting sounds more like a pile of junk falling down!

  • The end is so funny!
