  • it's fun to do a 4 note rhythm on the 3 part so that it loops back every 4 phrases.

  • You probably get asked this, but will there be more in this series? 4 against 5?

  • @speedfranklin - Nope, haven't been asked that.

    =)

I've been a bit busy/lazy and haven't put up anything in a while. I'll see about getting something up in the next few days.

    Thanks for the prodding.

    =)

  • omg where did you get a hang?

  • @moket123 - Got very lucky and got it 2nd hand directly in 2007

  • Isnt a polyrhythm one meter on one limb and one meter on another? cause you were doing 4/4 on both hands...

  • @rootbeerazor - It's 3 beats per measure with one hand and 4 beats per measure with the other in a cross rhythm pattern.

  • @PlayHanghang or 2/3 or 6/5 any 2 rhythms within the same 4 beat measure

  • @PlayHanghang

No Rootbeer is right, you were playing in 4/4. What I think you where trying to shoot for was triplets in one hand and eigth notes in the other? But instead you where doing 1 a & & e 4 in one hand, and 1 2 3 4 in the other. There is no difference in the meters in what you're playing.

  • @pimpnc123 - Although sometimes used synonymously, the term polymeter is generally used to in regards to two or more time signatures played simultaneously, while polyrhythm refers to the simultaneous use of two or more different patterns, which may be in the same time-signature.

As I titled this 'Polyrhythm experiment' that's the one I was aiming for.

    =)

  • What is that?!

  • @thejeran - The instrument is a '2nd Generation' Hang made by PANArt in Switzerland.

The pattern is called 3 against 4 and is a polyrhythm where each hand holds a separate pattern that crosses over

  • "Pass the goddamn butter".

Makes this polyrhythm MUCH easier to do if you remember that.

  • @NorrisChuckling I like "I can play in three four"

    I_____Play____Three

    I_ Can_____In_______Four

  • This is a plain African rhythym. Works well with any 2 drums that are at least a 4th apart in tone. I want your drum. I can't afford to pay over $5,000 for one, so people who can't even play it right have all the ir hang drums to post on youtube. It's a sad cruel world!

  • Thanks! Finally... A decent rhythm that isn't so ambiguous and is sustained long enough to mimic....

  • @AkaiAllan - that was the trouble I had with several of the polyrhythm videos I saw. Too much mixing-it-up and improvising.

    I'm glad I could help!

  • What can make this worth 8000 buck? I mean its just steel with a given shape.. or is there something inside O.o? I know its wonderful but its still not 8000 imo!

  • @Unrated48 - Handmade items of limited production with high demand can get to high prices. But for your information this one cost around $1,200 U.S.

  • Very cool!

  • just play the piano....real drums,congas,timbales...

  • thanks this helps me with the piano

  • Thank you for letting me know that a beginner like myself has been a help to you!

  • @Oasisfan427 Yeah, right now I am starting the Fantasie Impromptu by Chopin, and almost the entire piece is 3 against 4. This helps me too!

  • Fanatastic! Very Cool! ^^*

  • "pass the goddamn butter"

  • what unpleasent weather

    i like roast beef danglers

    eat your fucking dinner

  • I am now the Buddha

I can play in three four

  • Ya, being in drumline, or playing drums helps alot when learning any hand played instrument. Our limbs are already independent from one another, and it makes them act on their own, without our input. Or at least mine do. :)

  • i learned the 3 against four in drumline under the guise of "eat your goddamned spinach" sound it out in the pattern of three against four ^-^♠

  • "I can be the Buddha" and "I can play in 3 4" were the Mnemonics I came up with...

    =)

  • Nice dude!

try some fun stuff: add an accent on every 2nd of the "threes" or an accent on every 3rd of the "fours".

    this is a mind-bender :))

    keep it up!

    ciao

  • Switching it up, trading off accents, moving around the notes as the pattern continues have been things I've been working on since this video, but this was just an early attempt to get the pattern down.

  • does pan art have a web page? is there any way to cantact them by phone?

  • Sounds good with the birds. Tranquility.

  • good times, 3 on 4 is a fun rythm to play once internalized
