@moviemusicfan10011 Its Judy. You must realize. . . the people who grew up in the 30s and 40s in Hollywood had a "Hollywood voice" and a Regular Voice. Its Judy.
this is so sad, this woman needed help if she could have only gotten it, these people who used this poor thing that got her to this point in her life, it is a damm shame. if only this helped her get it off her chest, but from what i understand , she tried to write this book many times, but instead of talking about her life, she vented like this, poor thing, but that talent and she wore her heart on her sleve, there will never be another Judy Garland
Everyone wants to be a star, be famous and live the greatest life. But this is proof that Hollywood does make you a star, then there after, it will surly kill you. So many of these "stars" fall. Its a sad thought of how many ppl have died and/or been through hell just for being famous. Who knows where they all could be today if it wasn't for a Hollywood life. Judy was a wonderfully bright and caring person. Time and fame got the best of her. But she lived her life the way she wanted.
This is a revealing side to a woman we never thought had one, and she left us too early due to drug addiction. If only she didn't have to put on a face and was recognized for more than just her singing voice, she would still be with us.
For anyone wanting to read a good biography of Judy Garland, I would recommend "Rainbow: the stormy life of Judy Garland" by Christopher Finch. It really is a very good biography; objective, well-researched, and the author has a lot of insight into the life of this very troubled, disturbed Hollywood legend.
@moviemusicfan10011 Oh, yes it is Judy Garland. She made these tapes because she was trying to put together information for an autobiography she intended to write. It never got made, but these tapes are the real thing.
However, this was never intended for an autobiography. She DID make several recordings with Fred Finklehoffe for an autobiography, but the audio here was purley for venting anger.
@xtinamadonnafan She says it in the tape it's for a book. From 1:17-1:30 she says what she's gunna do. She's gunna write a book and in her drunken state intend to expose all the bad apples in her life.
@millers3888 Yes, she says she's going to write a book, but alot of this material was an exercise of venting frustration and anger. There are hours of these type of recordings, this recording here isnt even in proper synch.... never ever ment for public hearing - this was my lesson from Mr. Fricke anyway
Judy, Marilyn, and many others were not appreciated or loved until after their death. They were pretty much ridiculed and all mistakes were magnified for all the world to see. What's sad is that we still do it today, as with Jessica, Lohan, Spears and many others. If something (god forbid) was to happen to any of them, everyone would sing another tune and talk about how great they were and act like they never said an unkind word about them.
WIERD!!!! Who the fu**k is that??? I have read large parts of what she is saying in a book!!! Soooo Strange, parts of it do sound her (Really Out Of It) then i does sound like Judy Davis speaking in to a bucket!!! The more i hear the more i think IT IS HER!!!
i read that book and remember well that photograph. i must read it again, perhaps the book i read was not from her but a biography. but that photograph is her soul undone !
Whoa whoa whoa. Let's just hope you're a troll, because if you're not you're a first class weirdo.
Bertrand Russell was an atheist and one of the greatest humaniatarians ever.
If you really wanna blame somebody blame all those religious fanatics with glued on morals full of hatespeeches and love for wars, despite the Bible telling them the exact opposite.
She was not a "good mother." Her children were deeply affected by their mother's irrersponsibilty, her alcoholism and drug addiction, her self-absorption. Lorna Luft had a physical and mental collapse as a child; she'd been taking care of her younger brother Joey and her drug-addicted mother while only a child herself. Judy Garland's kids loved her but she was NOT a "good mother."
@bexi3 she decided to tell her story on a tape recorder, in order to make a book. She died before it was finished, but these are left. She was mad broke and needed money.
Howard Stern is a piece of crap and ugly as sin. trying to capitalize on someone else's misery. this is what our society has come to. Judy Garland was and is a national treasure, part of American Classic Entertainment. He's a classless sob who couldn't touch her with a 10 foot pole.
You stand for Woman everywhere that are having rough times and like Women strength can hurt and break you down. But being the Woman that you were you give courage to carry on.What I would give to rerun your life with someone one who loved you come rain or come shine. Still Loving you Judy love Barb...
I wonder what her book would have been like? Probably it would have been very self-pitying, like the tirades on these tapes. And full of blame: blame for Ethel Gumm, Vincente Minnelli, Louis B. Mayer, MGM, Sid Luft, Tom Green, Mark Herron, her financial managers, etc.
@ITALOVER2 I love Judy like you do. But please, don't call atheists to those people who abused her. First of all, you don't know if they were or not. I'm an atheist and I have the right to enjoy life like you do. Second, all the atheists I know are wonderful caring people. And we know that most of the wars and genocides were caused by religious people: Inquisition, Crusades, Reconquista, French Wars of Religion, etc. Her music suppose to unite us; please be kind.
This audio shows you the damage of insecurity, when it comes to fame in Hollywood. The pressure of not "being pretty enough". Judy was beautiful and talented and she drank herself to death. That’s the shame and the irony.
This makes my heart break, I can relate to what Judy's went through, I've been through it myself. I own these tapes and I rarely ever listen to them, as I don't like hearing Judy in such a state.
Judy even under the influence rarely used a curse word. Judy was a real Lady. Today you have these nit wits like Lindsay Lohan who was called a Legend by some idiot commentator on those entertainment news shows. Heidi and spencer pratt those two moronic mental midgets think they are superstars.. MTV's influence on the youth of today has brought these entitled no talents into our lives by starring them in reality shows. I huess Judy's talent wows us even more because of these no talents today.
@NFitalianGuy, regardless of how she is NOW, Lindsay Lohan definietely had talent, but, she went down a hard road. I think there are many talented people in Hollywood, today. And, I'm not referring to the hacks or "celebrities", known as Speidi, or The Khardashians, or whatever.
She wasn't an unfit mother! If anyone was unfit it was her Mother Ethel Gumm Gilmore. This woman would lock Judy in a closet when the Gumm sisters were in Vaudeville and if she misbehaved her mother would lock her in the hotel room's closet and tell her she was leaving her behind. Imgine a little 7 yr old going through this mental abuse? No wonder why her only champion was her Father and when he died she said "Now no one is on my side" How sad. But she clung on to her humor even in bad times.
Today is 6/ 22/10. 41 yrs ago the world Lost it's greatest Star & death silenced Judy's heart. Her talent came from her heart & through her voice, did we know it. Every song she sang she told us a story & always with such feeling whether it was happy or sad she gave us 1000% to us. She never looked down at her audience with disdain, she revered us andit came shining through each time she appeared before us. I am sad she is gone but she is @ peace with GOD & her voice is being heard in heaven.
I'm glad she was angry, she had every right to be. I prefer that to all the crying women who think they themselves are to blame when in most cases they are victims.
Judy you tell these sons of bitches what they deserve, all those people who hurt you and took advantage of you, they deserve everything you are saying, and then some! I applaud you Ms. Garland, because I would do the same thing too. you are the best singer/actress to have ever lived. :) You are still loved and missed by many.
I remember when these audio recordings were first discovered, it was reported that Judy was under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol while working on her autobiography. She never finished it.
bloody hell!!! she let rip in this one didnt she?? i dont blame her tho! she had a right to be pissed at a lot of people but she still kept going and thats something we should admire this woman for! Her fortitude, her perserverance through all the mess and the crap other people loaded on her....she still kept fighting! GO JUDY!!!! gotta love that woman xxxx
@ziggycat999The Resentment was because she becme a star while still a juvenile and trusted her Mother and then the men who ran MGM. She then married men who she thought would take care of her &the finances because back then Judy was not a feminist & believed certain aspects of a relationship belong to a man. She put so much of herself & energy into her work and mainly was the bread winner in each marriage only to find she is wiped out & the IRS was on her back? She was a sensitive woman!
@ziggycat999 A reality check? Here's the reality of it. ..No, singing wasn't putting food on the table. Things are not that black and white in "Hollywood". At that point, her ex husband had taken the money, divorce lawyers had taken the money, and shady managers had taken the money. She was often left with zero money. That's why she was so angery.
You can't blame her for being angry. Everybody starting with her own mother lied to her. I wish she could have had a couple of years to get well. Those who knew her best said she was so peaceful and relaxed when she had the chance to rest and get the pressure off herself. Here she's mad at her mother, Sid Luft and David Begelman. She worked from the age of 2. She was the highest paid performer and she was broke. I'd be mad too!
The first film I ever watched was the Wizard of Oz so I have always loved Judy and always appreciated her work, I started watching more and more of her films as I got older. When you hear the name Judy Garland you automatically think of the Wizard of Oz and lull yourself into thinking her life was like that, obviously by the sound of these tapes she never quite got over the rainbow and it's so sad... All I want to do is hug her
If more god damned people would have listened to this beautiful amazing beyond talanted stunning woman, then maybe she would have been happier...God I love you Judy Garland!!!!! =)
She was raised in a time when women were programmed to shut up and listen to Men etc. She worked and supported her entire family when at the Time Men were suppose to take care of their families. They all broke her back from Louis B Mayer to Mickey Deans who used her as meal tickets. I would be just as angry as she was.
@NFitalianGuy MGM was the one that started her on drugs anyways. She was a sixteen year old girl, they said here take this. And she did. The people that were ment to take care of her, failed.
@NFitalianGuy I really think that's why she did not get the Oscar for ASIB!
She opened her mouth & refused to be a flop on her back milquetoast like Grace Kelly. She was good to make them money but after that....screw you Miss.Garland & boy did they!
That's why I love her and Liza. They shatter the mold! They get on stage and give their ALL no matter how much they might be hurting! Their music is one of only two reasons I'm still here.
@kneecoal777 I agree! it was like the Academy was Punishing her like a parent punishes their child by taking away something they want. Grace Kelly may have been a princess but How many people remember her, the way they remember Judy? Judy walked away with her dignity and Joked about her loss whenever she told the story . She brought humor to those of us who werent thre that night she lost. So what she did was give us a very funny account of what she went through and we remember it laughing.
@NFitalianGuy ASIB was on TCM last week and I had to get on the internet during because my husband did not believe me that Judy did not win the Oscar for it!
It's well documented "the princess" married the biggest wallet she could find because making movies was "too much hard work" .
What This Amazing woman went through in her brief stint here on Earth would have destroyed most of us way before we turned even turned 30 let alone 47 yrs. She was on stage from 30 months of age performing and worked her ass off. She was a true Genius in every sense of the word. So when Guttersnipes like Howard Stern made fun of this woman I wish they could walk a mile in her shoes. I think then and only then will they realize how ignorant they were when they all laughed at this sad recording.
@NFitalianGuy You act like she handled it well. She fuckin went crazy and OD'd on barbituates, I'd like to think most of us could do better. Plus Stern is way more brilliant than she could ever be.
@NFitalianGuy You are SO RIGHT!!! We will NEVER again see the pure and halcyon talent Judy had again.
As for asshole Stern, what do you expect of rotting old trash that should have been off the air YEARS ago! In 80 years no one will know that gutter scum but people will still know and LOVE Judy!
With that said I wish someone would kick his knee caps with some steel toed ruby slippers ;-D
@kneecoal777 I agree Stern is a piece of Sh*t.Terry Thomas put it perfectly in when he was on her show during the "Tea for two segment" he said "never expect anything more than a grunt from a pig".Howard Stern years ago had that nit wit stuttering John asking certain famous people rude questions. When he seen them out on the street, He asked Liza as she was getting into a car "how come all the gay men listen to your mother's music?" Liza said without missing a beat, "Because they have tatse"
@NFitalianGuy Thats being mean to pieces of sh*t! ;)
Liza used the "because they have taste" line in a recent interview. I think on the Joy Baher show. Liza was visibly getting P.Od because Joy kept pressing on the negative & even my husband said "is that cow trying to bait liza?"(Yes my husband likes Liza!) Liza finally said I know what you're trying to do & I'm not falling for it!
As they say these days....she got it from her mama!
@kneecoal777 Joy Behar is a shrill. She is a nauseating person. Her voice is nails on a chalkboard. Liza is a smart cookie and she isnt afraid to snap back when someone is trying to attack her mother's character. These people who go off on their talking points where Judy is concerned have their facts screwed up. Judy was a human being and far from prfect but all she did was please the world with her talent and when things were darkest, Judy had her fans behind her all the time.
@NFitalianGuy Well you don't want to know the line she used to introduce Liza. But it included entertaining gay men & Larry Craig. I almost fell off the couch. ugh.
Well like I say.... in 80 years you will just have to mention the name Garland and people will still recall her and LOVE her as if she just left us the day before!
Thats why I think she is so loved. She showed us she was human on stage. A scary place/world most of us would have no idea how to even function in.
@kneecoal777 I agree. I don't have to worry about ever defending Garland's Talent. It speaks for its self. Judy as the years go on still gains more fans from people who are just finding her on sites liek Youtube or the cable tv movie channels. These newbies who discover her are floored when they see The Judy Garland Shows and are amazed that it went on for only one season but turns out to be a mastrpiece of Judy with other legends. Judy was one of the few Living Legends. She knew it
@fireyjax79 i agree, i was by NO means defending him, i thank he is a Ass, and had no right playing these tapes and from what i was told he was making remarks that weren't flattering to poor judy
She wasn't bipolar; the cycling you're observing was due to self-dosing of uppers and downers. It would be impossible for any human to recklessly swallow such pills, regardless of interactions, and not experience severe cyclings of highs and lows.
I have always been fascinated by Judy's story. Everytime there is a bio of her, I tune all else out while I watch. She was an amazing talent, and her voice is unmatched. I downloaded the extended version of The man that got away, and listen to it daily. I knew of the pain and loneliness that she experienced, but to hear the anger and sadness in her voice breaks my heart. All she ever wanted was love and acceptance, but I don't think she realized just how loved she was. How very sad.
First off I want to start off by sharing my absolute love and admiration for Judy. I love this woman!
Now i have read a lot of Judy bios and have seen many interviews and this is during the period where her life was on the down hill slope. I think once she was canceled on CBS, she just sort of gave up in a sense. I do not believe that Judy really knew who she was at this time, she only saw herself as someone countless people had used. and this makes me sad.
People are always saying that Judy's life wasnt tragic and that she didnt want it to be seen that way, but i think it was and that she did see herself that way. She even says so in this interview. Knowing the incredible feats that this woman achieved in her somewhat short career (really only like 30 some years) imagine what she could have done if she could have just got herself together, i know she was sick and i totally understand that, but just imagine!
@JillStrif amazon.com is where I got mine. It's a sad CD and there are some humorous moments. But it's the real woman stating the real truth and even if she sounds under some influence, she is still sharp and makes sense..
My previous point...to clarify...is that Stern (and sometimes I have really enjoyed his comedy and Robin's comedy) made a grave mistake by ridiculing Judy while playing this tape on his show in 2001.
First, there is nothing funny about this tape. Judy was ill. Sad state of affairs when our culture stoops to torturing those who are in obvious distress, but Stern especially shouldn't have done it. I understand satire, but to speak ill of the dead is never, ever wise...or amusing.
is this really judy! her voice sounds so different! if it is her she had every right to be mad as many times as people took and wasted her money, that she worked very hard for her whole life!! i love you judy! happy birthday!
Much of what we hear has probably more than a grain of truth to it.We are listening to a drunk Judy ramble on about a life full of resentments because she was F****d over by a lot of people.
Judy was very vulnerable and that is what made her so beautiful.
judy telling these sleeze bags who want to make money off her, who obviously care nought for her, ...wow. It's an arguement for socialism. which was judys basic loving belief.
She's acting, and some of the stuff is pretty silly. Her sister Jimmy said, "She was on when she was on, and she was on when she was off." It would make a great soliloquy in a play/film, telling the audience how Judy sees herself, what she has talked herself into. Oddly, she remembers that she was a smash at Carnegie Hall, but not invited to a party afterward. Most Judy bios contain many photos of Judy attending parties at MGM, after her Palace show, and a party in her honor after Carnegie.
@helenajesstarzak Its difficult to say, I don't think she knew how to be herself. The emotions were real, she just didn't know how to express them in any other way.
frighteningly sad..................there is no over the rainbow

NFitalianGuy 1 year ago

Take a reality check Judy.....entertaining and singing has been put food on your table since childhood, why such resentment now??
ziggycat999 1 year ago
@ziggycat999The Resentment was because she becme a star while still a juvenile and trusted her Mother and then the men who ran MGM. She then married men who she thought would take care of her &the finances because back then Judy was not a feminist & believed certain aspects of a relationship belong to a man. She put so much of herself & energy into her work and mainly was the bread winner in each marriage only to find she is wiped out & the IRS was on her back? She was a sensitive woman!
NFitalianGuy 1 year ago
@ziggycat999 A reality check? Here's the reality of it. ..No, singing wasn't putting food on the table. Things are not that black and white in "Hollywood". At that point, her ex husband had taken the money, divorce lawyers had taken the money, and shady managers had taken the money. She was often left with zero money. That's why she was so angery.
ChristianGreenia 1 year ago

Bless her. Women are so strong. Thanks for that, men!
MyCatWatchesMe 2 years ago 2
She was raised in a time when women were programmed to shut up and listen to Men etc. She worked and supported her entire family when at the Time Men were suppose to take care of their families. They all broke her back from Louis B Mayer to Mickey Deans who used her as meal tickets. I would be just as angry as she was.
NFitalianGuy 2 years ago 28
@NFitalianGuy MGM was the one that started her on drugs anyways. She was a sixteen year old girl, they said here take this. And she did. The people that were ment to take care of her, failed.
PeaceNdLovee 1 year ago
@NFitalianGuy I really think that's why she did not get the Oscar for ASIB!
She opened her mouth & refused to be a flop on her back milquetoast like Grace Kelly. She was good to make them money but after that....screw you Miss.Garland & boy did they!
That's why I love her and Liza. They shatter the mold! They get on stage and give their ALL no matter how much they might be hurting! Their music is one of only two reasons I'm still here.
kneecoal777 1 year ago
@kneecoal777 I agree! it was like the Academy was Punishing her like a parent punishes their child by taking away something they want. Grace Kelly may have been a princess but How many people remember her, the way they remember Judy? Judy walked away with her dignity and Joked about her loss whenever she told the story . She brought humor to those of us who werent thre that night she lost. So what she did was give us a very funny account of what she went through and we remember it laughing.
NFitalianGuy 1 year ago
@NFitalianGuy ASIB was on TCM last week and I had to get on the internet during because my husband did not believe me that Judy did not win the Oscar for it!
It's well documented "the princess" married the biggest wallet she could find because making movies was "too much hard work" .
kneecoal777 1 year ago
What This Amazing woman went through in her brief stint here on Earth would have destroyed most of us way before we turned even turned 30 let alone 47 yrs. She was on stage from 30 months of age performing and worked her ass off. She was a true Genius in every sense of the word. So when Guttersnipes like Howard Stern made fun of this woman I wish they could walk a mile in her shoes. I think then and only then will they realize how ignorant they were when they all laughed at this sad recording.
NFitalianGuy 2 years ago 37
@NFitalianGuy You act like she handled it well. She fuckin went crazy and OD'd on barbituates, I'd like to think most of us could do better. Plus Stern is way more brilliant than she could ever be.
MickyG4444 1 year ago
@NFitalianGuy You are SO RIGHT!!! We will NEVER again see the pure and halcyon talent Judy had again.
As for asshole Stern, what do you expect of rotting old trash that should have been off the air YEARS ago! In 80 years no one will know that gutter scum but people will still know and LOVE Judy!
With that said I wish someone would kick his knee caps with some steel toed ruby slippers ;-D
kneecoal777 1 year ago
@kneecoal777 I agree Stern is a piece of Sh*t.Terry Thomas put it perfectly in when he was on her show during the "Tea for two segment" he said "never expect anything more than a grunt from a pig".Howard Stern years ago had that nit wit stuttering John asking certain famous people rude questions. When he seen them out on the street, He asked Liza as she was getting into a car "how come all the gay men listen to your mother's music?" Liza said without missing a beat, "Because they have tatse"
NFitalianGuy 1 year ago
@NFitalianGuy Thats being mean to pieces of sh*t! ;)
Liza used the "because they have taste" line in a recent interview. I think on the Joy Baher show. Liza was visibly getting P.Od because Joy kept pressing on the negative & even my husband said "is that cow trying to bait liza?"(Yes my husband likes Liza!) Liza finally said I know what you're trying to do & I'm not falling for it!
As they say these days....she got it from her mama!
kneecoal777 1 year ago
@kneecoal777 Joy Behar is a shrill. She is a nauseating person. Her voice is nails on a chalkboard. Liza is a smart cookie and she isnt afraid to snap back when someone is trying to attack her mother's character. These people who go off on their talking points where Judy is concerned have their facts screwed up. Judy was a human being and far from prfect but all she did was please the world with her talent and when things were darkest, Judy had her fans behind her all the time.
NFitalianGuy 1 year ago
@NFitalianGuy Well you don't want to know the line she used to introduce Liza. But it included entertaining gay men & Larry Craig. I almost fell off the couch. ugh.
Well like I say.... in 80 years you will just have to mention the name Garland and people will still recall her and LOVE her as if she just left us the day before!
Thats why I think she is so loved. She showed us she was human on stage. A scary place/world most of us would have no idea how to even function in.
kneecoal777 1 year ago
@kneecoal777 I agree. I don't have to worry about ever defending Garland's Talent. It speaks for its self. Judy as the years go on still gains more fans from people who are just finding her on sites liek Youtube or the cable tv movie channels. These newbies who discover her are floored when they see The Judy Garland Shows and are amazed that it went on for only one season but turns out to be a mastrpiece of Judy with other legends. Judy was one of the few Living Legends. She knew it

her bipolar condition is pretty obvious here....when she wasn't high as a kite...she was sinking into hell.
misterears 2 years ago

GoldenGeisha79 2 years ago 7
omg, how sad of her to hear her speak like this :(
LeanneBrandi 2 years ago
First off I want to start off by sharing my absolute love and admiration for Judy. I love this woman!
Now i have read a lot of Judy bios and have seen many interviews and this is during the period where her life was on the down hill slope. I think once she was canceled on CBS, she just sort of gave up in a sense. I do not believe that Judy really knew who she was at this time, she only saw herself as someone countless people had used. and this makes me sad.
malyak 2 years ago 2
People are always saying that Judy's life wasnt tragic and that she didnt want it to be seen that way, but i think it was and that she did see herself that way. She even says so in this interview. Knowing the incredible feats that this woman achieved in her somewhat short career (really only like 30 some years) imagine what she could have done if she could have just got herself together, i know she was sick and i totally understand that, but just imagine!

Kari166 2 years ago
My previous point...to clarify...is that Stern (and sometimes I have really enjoyed his comedy and Robin's comedy) made a grave mistake by ridiculing Judy while playing this tape on his show in 2001.
First, there is nothing funny about this tape. Judy was ill. Sad state of affairs when our culture stoops to torturing those who are in obvious distress, but Stern especially shouldn't have done it. I understand satire, but to speak ill of the dead is never, ever wise...or amusing.
Vengeance509 2 years ago 4
Judy was drunk, but righteously so. If healthy, she would've burned these tapes in horror.
Her worry for her children is as strong a motif as her own huge, damaged :-( ego.
Howard Stern brought a permanent curse upon his "no-right-to-judge" self when he used this on his show & ridiculed her. That's, like, ~Death karma. ~
Seriously. They all bought themselves one-way-tickets to cancer (or something) by that particular ridicule. Howard & Robin should've known better.
Dangerous.

helenajesstarzak 2 years ago 2
She's acting, and some of the stuff is pretty silly. Her sister Jimmy said, "She was on when she was on, and she was on when she was off." It would make a great soliloquy in a play/film, telling the audience how Judy sees herself, what she has talked herself into. Oddly, she remembers that she was a smash at Carnegie Hall, but not invited to a party afterward. Most Judy bios contain many photos of Judy attending parties at MGM, after her Palace show, and a party in her honor after Carnegie.
