Picks are for noobs? Tell that to Chris Squire, Dave Ellefson, Paul McCartney and more that I forget. Personally, I use fingers but sometimes a pick is appropriate. It's personal taste. I see so many bassists get trashed because they choose to use a pick. It's lame. It's about music, not about slapping people into boxes. If you can feel the music expressed fomr a musician it doesn't matter whether he is playing with his fingers, a pick, or the tip of his dick, the bassists mission is complete.

A few things that make Chris my favorite bassist:

1) Unlike other bassists, he plays bass like a bass instead of a guitar (using a pick, making nice beats, not getting a 6 string and playing the 24th fret)

2)He takes the place of a rhythm guitar AND a bass, and pulls it off flawlessly

3) You can actually hear the bass in songs, and it sounds wonderful
