@rqgenevieve Granted, "shipping" is fun. But I think the thing that really drives this show is the character development centered around Lawrence and Holo's /friendship/, not romance. It's realistically portrayed, with teasing and joking that doesn't lead into stupid drama despite the sexual tension. In essence, it feels like a relationship between best friends who get along so well despite being so different. It's a mature portrayal of people with deep intentions.

@evasivenose I agree. This is a series where the English dub runs circles around the original Japanese. Brina Palencia is phenomenal as Holo. She captures her playful innocence yet at the same time evoking a regal and cunning goddess.

Nope. This one of those shows where everyone sounds better in English. I love what they did with Holo's voice, she sounds proud and sophisticated. Lawrence is better too, he's more of a smooth talker in the dub. When I listen to this, I just imagine how much better it would sound in English. It's a better language for the show because of the setting in European history, so English fits the characters.

See, there's where we differ. I HATE the cute voice, I think it doesn't fit Holo at all. The stuck up rich girl voice works better for an ancient wolf god who considers herself better than humans and who is trying to look impressive in front of Lawrence. It makes it all the better when the facade breaks down.

In other words, this is basically the Japanese version of that "stuck up rich girl" voice in English. But the Japanese voice, I feel, better emphasizes the other qualities of Horo's character (guileful, sly, foxy, knaving, ect)

Also, regardless of the setting, I still view this show culturally as a product of Japan. English loses some of these cultural aspects.
