I've been playing NBA 2K games since NBA 2K6. It would be too late for me to be a "hop-on" this year.

I saw the "new physics capabilities" with NBA Elite 11. The net was rising before the ball touched it.

But who knows? Maybe the final product will be okay.

2K has been owning EA since NBA 2K7 (which is still my favorite NBA 2K game). I wouldn't expect 2K to take a major step back especially with Jordan in the game. That alone explains the expected quality.
