There is a need for Guru, because one will not become an enlightened individual (nor will collective emergence happen), in are dominated postmodern culture of the individual. This you seem not to discern. You don't seem curious in your assessment, about the possibility that something might be higher then your passive inquiry. Good luck with your own devices. Perhaps you should seriously check it out, before blankly dismissing an organization, you obviously haven't inquired into.
3 A plan of action - rather than speaking to two people and coming to 'profound' conclusions. Engage with the very thing/people that have caused this confusion and intrigue and find out more, Open your heart with humility, and you may find that Andrew is not the tainted 'guru' concept you have in your minds eye, but rather someone who is very wise, always evolving and ever inviting you to join him in a collective effort to create something deeper, higher and forever new.
2 Learn to discern between a) ego which doesn't want to evolve - instead choosing to walk the fields over and over - and b) the authentic self which wholeheartedy responds to the challenges of doubt you so well convey in this video clip.
You do understand that I'm walking my dogs, right? That I'm not walking the fileds because I'm lost or in need of bogus spirituality handed out by the first huckster I come across, but because my dogs need exercise.
Do I look like I need to be told what to learn, by you or anyone else?
1 Do you think this video clip embodies a man who is engaged wholeheartedly with the divine evolutionary process that is life? Or does he embody a man riddled with doubt and cynicism?
Why a guru? Because if you assiciate with a person who is clearly much more evolved than you are, and who proves to you that he is an exceptionally trustworthy, reliable person (which are the two things any Guru should be), it can facilitate your spiritual growth like nothing else would. It can take you way beyond the point you could reach on your own.
Are there dangers inherent in the guru-student relationship? You bet there are. But that doesn't necessary mean that institute is not valid.
aren't you already enlightened?? why should someone want a guru that " can take you way beyond the point you could reach on your own." ?? why why why??? whats about- accept what is? here. now. isn't that all? listen what your feelings inside say
Kant's enlightenment is the one witnessed through the philosophy of aesthetics. It's not witnessed by a guru, but a genius. I'm claim to be the renaissance genius of the 21st century.
Cohen's enlightenment? It's fabricated to sell magazines.
any word is about definition and interpretation... each individual...gives this word a unique meaning... it could be... someones need to give... or opposite...someones need to recieve. i see beauty in a guru... as a nursing mother. as the fruit...that gives ...in order to live. as a, river that cannot contain itself. as radiensence of spirit. when i hear guru...i hear..come. come... drink.. they are the begging bowls... that say please take...

Safe your banal sycophantic nonsense for you your guru and leave me in peace.''
:-) Who is speaking the ego or the spirit here? Only the ego wants to be left in peace. Be a man, take a risk, open your heart.
End.

You do indeed appear very lost and unenlightened.
