Bath Time for Tortoises, but one gets a face plant!

I have an aquatic map turtle that's turned out to be pretty amazing. my oldest daughter's biological father (stepdaughter) got a baby map turtle (for us to take care of) not realizing the responsibility. Happily, after a few hundred USD, tanks runnin and we have a beautiful, albeit not totally playful, little pet.

my tortoise faceplants all the time, we have tried putting up wooden walls all over the place. It hard for him to lump his shell around anyway without having to negotiate a maze type affair. It doesn't seem to do him any harm he's just so silly and falls off stuff, even his food dish.

Awww! I've always wanted a tortoise but knowing my luck I'd die before it died and nobody would want to care for it. They're beautiful, slow animals that take their time! Unfortunately, I already have 2 goldfish, 1 betta, 2 parakeets, 2 cats, a horse, 1 dog, and I'm adopting a puppy soon. Quite a handful already lol!

My sister's greek tortoise constantly face plants into his water bowl. Anytime I see him do it I freak out and worry he is going to drown (he will stay under the water for 1-2 seconds), but he always gets out just fine on his own.

I have trained my tortoises to bath as it is so good for their health. Not a good idea and your turtle may be unhappy and die if you do not know what you are doing. You will need to first find out what kind of turtle you are getting. After that talk to people that are giving you the turtle and have the tell you what they know. Also Google for a care sheet for your kind of turtle. A lot of information is online.

Look at their shells, the one on the right is very sunken in at the dorsal, and all the individual plates of the shell are all staggered and irregular, most are sunken in. You're a pretty crappy owner.

@lureyourkidsinvan no my friend I am not a crappy owner. I took on Oogway with his shell defect, he was born this way. He came from a good home where all his brothers and sisters where all good and healthy. in fact Oogway's shell has now nearly all grown out and looking good. I take a lot more care over my tortoises than you do about your comments. my advise to you is that if you are to leave people negative comments, do your homework first as I have mentioned this in other comments.

@maphunter1 no hatching eggs by me. I bought them from a tortoise breeder. search on-line for "tortoise breeder" and you'll find some one who will sell you a tortoise. Just make sure they are a registered breeder as that means they breed them and not steal them from the wild.
