  • so, can you pretty much do anything you need to in windows through virtualbox xp?

  • Suggestion required: My needs are as follows :

an OS as light and fast as puppy.

Virtual box to run xp to run programs. Wine is NOT an option.

Can these 2 needs be combined? and run from an USB [8GB]? if yes, kindly share your method.

    thanks.

  • @loke4300 you can do this with macpup and puppy 528 as virtual box comes in the package manager

  • @sneekylinux thank you so much.

more questions: You've created partitions sda1 and sda[5] and mentioned that you'd save your downloads, pictures etc in your sda5. But, by default "my documents, pictures folder are on sda1:

    a. how does one change it?

    b. can one password protect an FULL install? i.e ask for password when installing.

    c. can one have an option of saving/not saving a session on FULL install? I can do it on my USB sessions.

    d. what all does sfs file save? the sfs that is cr.

  • @loke4300 typo...b. can one password protect an FULL install? i.e ask for password at login? [not installing].

  • @loke4300 hi mate, you can make seperate files in your home folder for your saves, there is a way to pw protect your install and have done video on it too,as for save or not save, what sort of usb install are u doing, save to file or full usb.

as for d. i dont understand what you mean

  • I am a beginner and I try to install Macpup on my old laptop (empty 20Gb harddisk and 256Mb memory) following the video. But when the CD starts running I get a message about grub (which I do not understand) an the word 'grub>'. I suppose I have to type a command there, but what? And what are the following steps I can expect (if any)?

  • @LWB46 you mean you installed it or didn't get that far??

  • No, I did not get that far. I tried it again, but when de CD starts the first thing I get is that grub> screen.

  • @LWB46 thats almost impossible but i can walk you thru it if you want to

  • Hey Sneeky, thanks for all the great vids. My questions are what does this install look like before and after. The bottom line is, can I keep windows on my machine doing an install like this? Do I create an ext3 partition on my hard drive and then follow the instructions on this video? After installation can I choose to boot into Macpup or windows xp? Does grub do that? Can windows still be my first boot option? I'd love to see a video showing all of the above.

    TIA!

  • @MNJack762 thats yes to most of them, but why not just just install it to a stick and go from there

  • Any reason why your creating ext3 partitions? I know a few years ago ext4 was considered less reliable but that was a few years ago, today it is the only choice really.. Just wondered if you still actively use ext3?

  • @fatriff i do on older hardware mate, but this is just a demonstration ya know

  • @fatriff actually, ext4 still sucks donkey on old ide hard discs. it's better to use ext3 or my favourite, jfs. ;)

  • Argh! E17 crashed and only JWM works! I've been running it off of my USB stick, so maybe I should do a full install on it...

  • @IKnewItAllAlong dont forget to let the team know on the forums

  • @sneekylinux Ah, got it sorted. Lovin the Macpup.

  • How much Cpu is it using in idle?

  • Nice video sneeky top stuff

  • The only thing is it's got a dated UI, something out of 2001 by the looks of it lol

  • Enlightment always cool look, nice video Puppy......

  • Nice Install Video..

  • Thank you Sneeky!

  • just wondering, sneeky, are the puppies rolling? You always seem to talk about every single small release, but can you get from one to the other smoothly?
