  • We always skipped this movement when we played this in high school. Now I understand why :). Absolutely beautiful, but very difficult to play correctly.

  • omg the chord @ 1:52 just smexy

  • "And think about those Poachers bold that night in Rufford Park!" :)

  • I always read this as Lincolnshire PoNy, so when I saw the word Poachers, my heart sank immeasurably

  • I had no choice, but to look up wab2113's comment(which is on page 4). That guy sucks.

  • i have the soprano sax solo 4 this movement...pray 4 me!!!!!! :)

  • is that really an alto clarinet and piccolo duet twice?

  • On a scale of one to Grangier, how technically challenging do you want that?

  • omgthere is a soprano part

    thas boss

  • There's something about this that makes it my favorite of the movements. It's haunting, without being foreboding. I love it.

  • hardest solo i have ever played in my entire life... the beginning canon offset by only one beat...

  • anniers7 thats grainger bro

  • What happened to the high horns? This is well played, but this interpretation loses ugency and tension. This piece should climax, and it just limps into the end line. What a waste of a great woodwind section.

  • i played lincolnshire a long time ago, but since we only had two rehearsals, the leader decided to skip this movement. it's so beautiful. what a shame

  • Do you think you can post the version A of this movement? the one with the soprano clarinet?

  • Like walking into the mist alone. The isolation is consuming, but haunting and comforting at the same time.

  • @wab2113 I really hope you are joking right now, please tell me this is sarcasm...Forgetting the fact that I am a sax player and ignoring your unnecessary cursing, I have to wonder if you honestly think the Christian religion and the soprano sax are somehow against each other. Morally? Really? And if you're that into the works of Grainger, why don't you know that the "transcendent genius" happened to love the sax over all the other instruments in the band?

  • 1 person is the oboe player who has to hold out that high C FOREVER

  • @cod4surfer keep an eye out for CT Johnson marching band for San Antonio, TX this year...show titled "Lincolnshire Posy". later on in season should have a few videos up.

  • @bricks78259 i was only kidding , i march in CTJ band this year :) we just took 5th at BOA San Antonio.

  • i'd love to see this as a marching show

  • @cod4surfer It's too long. The entire thing is like 16 minutes. The max length you can have is 12, at least in the SCSBOA.

  • As a clarinet player, it's a touch difficult to admit that Version B is nicer. But mixing the different tones is richer than the clarinet quartet. In Version A, the voices are too similar to where I will follow a theme in my head and switch between staffs.

  • this performance is amazing, dont get me wrong, though I think I like Arizona All-State Band's 2011 interpretation a little better... I dont know who was conducting at the time though.

  • I love the texture and colour at the beginning. Amazing.

  • i was at this performance. sooo sexy

  • North Texas For The Win!!!

  • North Texas For The WIn!!!

  • I love the fact he used the soprano sax, love it I wonder what he sounded like playing the sax. It would be interesting to have heard him play this music.

  • 1 person spited YourPervertNextDoor

  • @wab2113

You're trying too hard. You must be new to trolling.

  • @wab2113 Might I say that you're as ignorant as you call those who like this? You may not like the soprano sax but you cannot deny that both versions of this movement are amazing. This is the way Grainger wanted it, and like it or not, this is the version most bands play simply because most band directors want to stay true to Grainger's wishes.

Personally, I prefer the version with the Eb clarinet, but I'm not going around insulting the opinions of others.

  • @wab2113 Its just a fucking instrument man. Calm your shit.

  • @wab2113 You're such a class act. Cussing, insulting other people's opinions, sitting on your high horse... You've really got it all going for you, don't you? Good luck in life.

I love this movement, I love this suite, I love the NTWS, I love Percy Grainger. :]

  • @wab2113 are you serious?

how can you hate on a soprano

    newsflash

not every musician is white like you

  • @wab2113 are you frikin serious?

what do you have against sopranos?

and what does being christian have to do with anything?

    and btw

    not every musician is christian

    and allthegood ones aren't

  • @wab2113 and why are you bringing religion into this...? its people like mr. wab2113 that make the internet an even more intolerable place by insulting the opinions of others and insisting that they are right. You really just need to shut your mouth and gtfo the internet if you cant say anything nice. This piece has nothing to do with religion anyhow. Just dont say anything.

  • @wab2113 AGHHH F#. IT'S TOO DAMN POWERFUL!!!! THE DEVIL. IT MUST BE OF THE DEVIL.

Oh and you spelt Moses wrong. Some fucking evangelist you are.

  • this song gives me the chills >.< i love it so much :')

  • First 40 seconds hoooolllllllyy craaap AMAAZING.

  • xxxxxxxxxxxx

  • I think this has to be my favorite of all the movements. Not even Lost Lady Found can top this beauty <3

  • @YourPervertNextDoor And 69 likes :P

  • I commend you all. I played this song in highschool and I'm a fellow bassooner, and it is CERTAINLY nice to hear a bassoon instead of a bass clarinet. =)

Truly an amazing job you guys!!

  • I could listen to the last minute of this over and over. So brilliant.

  • Now trumpets, just start triple tonguing. Perfect.

  • @ArizonaYlcat The equivalent of: "Now piccolos, play perfectly in tune. Perfect."

  • LOVE THE WOODWINDS AT 2:57 AND THE OBOES AT 3:07! <3

  • first!

  • @leonards719 lolwut

  • It's so pretty. :)

  • My high school in Arkansas is trying to tackle all 6 movements for contest, and I must say, as frustrating as this movement can be, it is an honor to try and tame it.

  • I have not heard this version before.

  • Ah. The CORRECT version. Vive le Basson!

  • piccolo :D <3

  • We are playing the second movement in my school band for CMEA.

    ALTOS FTW

  • I am a sophmore in my schools honor band program and we are playing this at this All state bands festival,

    BASS CLARINETS FTW.

  • at 2:42, it is euphonium or horn?

  • @XProcks2001 It's the Horns with the Baritone Horn in Bb. There are two separate parts for Euphonium players on this piece, the euphonium part and the Baritone Horn Part.

  • Yea umm. I'm just glad I'm playing 2nd bassoon. It's hard enough without the solo. N. can have it.

  • Which version is this?

  • is that a bass clarinet?

  • @bandgeek12694 Yes, which is terrifying due to the fact that's my part....

  • @lukachoo bass clarinet, ftw. =D

  • Version B FTW! (i'm a sax player. it happens)

  • @musicxpwnsxlife

    yes!!!!

we're playing this for festival (as the soprano sax)

and Im soooo totally pumped and terrified at the same time = D

  • @musicxpwnsxlife

that made like no sense, let's try this again, "We're playing this for festival! (Im playing the soprano part)

    and im soo blah blah.

    that was better.

  • @STHanson08 Wait, wait, is this who I think it is? Is this OUR soprano sax player? Fancy meeting you hear, and if it's not... I'm so embarrassed. XD

  • @ClarinetOtaku

    ...maaaybe. = P

  • the tone of the bassoonist is outstanding

  • Version B. I like Version A better...

  • @tommytimp Version B is way better than Version A because it has bassoon... :P

  • i love this one ^.^

  • BASSOON!!!! yeahhhhhh baby! xoxo

  • Yes, definitely a sax. It's being played beautifully.

  • its def. a sax

  • According to the notes in the score, the soprano sax was Percy Grainger's preference for main solo "Version B" in measures 19-45.

  • @baucums Soprano Sax for the win

  • I would say that is an english horn...sounds like a double reed instrument to me

  • @turnne since this is version B, it is a soprano saxophone, but the only reason it sounds like a double reed is it's conical bore...

  • @carpedium123 My Version B has queues for a English Horn solo.

  • @Bassooner0rLater You mean 'cues'?

  • Is that a soprano saxophone or an english horn at 0:45?

  • @ndosg15 soprano saxophone
