i remember this game but i didnt remember what a weak team fergie put out howard,p neville,brown,lynch,spector,eagles,jones,djemba-djemba,miller,richardson andbellion, jesus christ! and i really hope that it is jeremy kyle at the start lol
Weak side but they regretted it and the better team that went to St James Park hardly turned us over. Seems to be a fairly weak Utd crowd too, cries of Ooh arrr we are Exeter far louder than anything from the home side. Great day for us and nice to cause a bit of a shock even if we didn't win.
Mark Pougatch is the bloke at the start, on 5Live all the time
yh i knew it was mark pougatch lol i was just fuckin about, the best thing about that game for exeter was the money they got from united with the gate receipts, and yh i was there, we were a bit pissed off, because although we were unlucky not to win, we had a look at the team sheet and we werent impressed, fergie shouldve at least played 3-4 first teamers.
Yep the money kept the team alive and the TV revenue and sell out from the replay was handy too.
I agree that the team was weak but it was the usual Premiership naivity that a non-league team won't be able to raise their game enough and if only that Andy Taylor free kick had gone in it could have been much different.
oh i know. your telling me, we had the same thing with coventry in the carling cup last year, and yup it could have been much worse for united, although we ended up losing the final anyway so....... that is the worst loss for me, we were all over arsenal, they didnt have a shot until the 109th minute and were so lucky its untrue, and then they beat us on penalties.
@GregoryFortwhip y does it matter how weak the team is. u were playing exeter at home.
also remember losing matches to coventry, leeds, southend & others & drawing with burton albion after fergie said a result like the exeter one would never happen again.
@RPOED1 well yes you moron of course it matters. if we had played our full squad it would of been about 8-0. if we pet an inexperienced team out of youngsters and players who hardly ever play together out then the exeter team who always play together and raise there game because of the occasion and the fact that it was at old trafford are gonna be better. and all the games you just mentioned were simillar to this. weak squads in games we couldn't give a shit about. who do you supprt anyway?
@RPOED1 struggled to beat them.........how can you stuggle to beat someone 2-0. it was on there ground infront of there fans and the rest of our team was inexperienced. and our youth system is fantastic. chelsea's is an absolute joke. and if we had played our full squad from the start against exeter at old trafford then it wuld've been about 8-0.
@GregoryFortwhip I'm a Man Utd fan as well mate. It's a pretty ignorant comment to say we would of beaten them 8-0. The season after this, we drew Burton Albion 0-0 with what could have been considered "our strongest side" at the time. So, before you make stupid comments like that, think what you said. You sound like the typical gloryhunter that our team is ridiculed for.
@Mnchsterr1 Nicely said mate. My home team is Wycombe Wanderers and 10 years ago as a third tier team we made it to the FA Cup semi-final and were drawn with Liverpool. A Liverpool fan at work said "Oh we'll thrash them". I replied the point is that Wycombe made it to the semi's and should be applauded for that not overlooked by a glory seeking idiot.

Oh and I must add, Liverpool didn't 'thrash' us, they were hard pushed and worked for their 2-1 win.

Cracking commentary... "Route one by the Conference side". Um it was a drop kick from the keeper, pretty standard in all levels of the game.
Such a poor Man U side... probably only 5 or 6 internationals in the starting line-up! Shite!

@GregoryFortwhip doesn't say much about ur youngsters & back up players at the time if they can't beat exeter at home does it?
btw in the replay rooney & ronaldo played & u struggled to beat them 2-0, so don't hink it owuld have been 8-0 at home.
i support rangers & chelsea.

@GregoryFortwhip did u watch the game?
u didn't score ur second goal until the 87th minute.
exeter were a conference team.
u should have been able to beat them easily no matter wot team u put out.
also i doubt that ur club doesn't care about the fa cup, the league cup maybe yes but not the fa cup.
