McLaren haven´t made a road car for more then 10 years! And now they made one, and it is close to a Ferrari 458, a brand that is making racing cars for YEARS! My mind says that the next McLaren sports car will CRUSH the Ferrari... But any how the 458 is a great machine and it looks stunning so i am not saying that Ferrari is a bad car, but i think the McLaren is and will become faster
@GordonWorldwide That's why the Ferrari is faster on some other track, and if you put the McLaren on the Fiorano track I think the result is obvious, and whatever they say about it I still like it, but I won't deny 458's performance, its beayty, or that it catches fire.
i really don't care what fifth gear says, or even if jeremy complains that its no fun, that thing just beat a bugatti's lap time. the v8 atom isn't even really a car (its purpose built for track days), so for me that is the fastest car ever tested by top gear. beautiful

Anyway i prefer the look of the mc laren , it's elegant , technical without artifice , th'ats the true performance class car design , you see a mac laren mp4 12c in another paint midnight blue metal ,it's more beautiful perfect than ferrari .
They never say anything wrong about this car. The others car shows test and prove that the transmission and the handling of the 12C is not as good as the 458. Of course that the 12c is fast in straight lines because is lighter. It's made of carbon fiber and the engine has more hp. But in the track the 458 is more fun and fast.
interestingly Mclaren have seriously taken onboard magazine criticisms about the car and are making a whole host of changes to it.
the editor of Evo magazinewas invited to Mclaren hq to view whats being changed etc and to drive the revised version and has written about it this month (not sure if the mags on general sale yet, i got my subscriber copy yesterday)
as for TG well ofc theyre entitled to their opionions, but pls do remember theyre a tv entertainment program not a serious car mag.
if i was to be a millionaire i would just buy the best looking car and not really worry about the performance. Why? mainly because you're not going to take it to the track as often as you are going to drive it to your work/house/golf course etc and two best looking cars gets the most attention and 99.9% of the population have no clue which super cars are faster than which so they think that looks = speed.

@Elmarcel22 Keep in mind that Ferrari engineers would often spend a few days before the test tuning their cars to suit the track. Not saying the 458 is a worse car but, Ferrari is notorious for giving cars for testing that are not factory spec. Even in this video Clarkson said the MP4 was tuned for this track. No review is 100% fair.

@35parkerm The Ferrari Enzo is faster than the Corvette ZR1 in acceleration and has a higher top speed... The ZR1 comes with a manual gearbox, that means it waste a lot of time when changing the gears compared to the Enzo's F1 gearbox. The Enzo is a supercar, not the ZR1, but the ZR1 can be faster around every tracks with special tyres and a great driver.
no surprise they would fake a lap time for a British car, haha - just like they fake lap times for several of their favorites: Veyron SS, Ascari (British), Noble (also British). Yet they can't make a legitimate run for the Corvette ZR1, because they're embarrassed that it's faster than their $300,000+ favorites. Corvette is the 3rd fastest around the Nurburgring (6 seconds faster than Enzo), yet it's a second and a half slower than Enzo around their track - a high speed track....funny.....
@iwasadeum... u cannot compare the Corvette on the Nurburgring track with the top gear track lol... that track is mostly straight stretch of road with a few corners, so the car has time to reach its top speeds before going into a corner mate, where as on the top gear track, there isnt enough straight stretch of track for a car to reach its maximum speed mate, cause u come to a corner too soon, and also de track is smaller.

The taillights on the Ferrari always bothered me. Some reason I feel it would've been better with two on each side like the F430. Something small to complain about, but just my opinion.
As a car journalist I would definitely buy the Italia because of the excitement and emotion which originally comes from the loud noise but, as a normal sensible customer I would definitely buy the McLaren because it's exciting in sort of calm and poised kind of way, I can take this to cruise along the country roads without breaking my bottom or a headache. The McLaren is mean't to be an every day car.

That laptime is really misleading and isn't scientifically valid.
You can't compare a car that was tuned on that track to every other car that wasn't.
It's like taking an F1 car setup to run at Suzuka and comparing how it runs at Silverstone to another F1 car that was setup for Silverstone.

if u compare this review with 458 review from topgear..this review is sort of serious with serious background music and serious clarkson..while the 458 made him shout [actually that was cum] and happy..i love the gizmo's, technology and extra horses but i would have the 458 ;)

@35parkerm The Ferrari Enzo is faster than the Corvette ZR1 in acceleration and has a higher top speed... The ZR1 comes with a manual gearbox, that means it waste a lot of time when changing the gears compared to the Enzo's F1 gearbox. The Enzo is a supercar, not the ZR1, but the ZR1 can be faster around every tracks with special tyres and a great driver.

no surprise they would fake a lap time for a British car, haha - just like they fake lap times for several of their favorites: Veyron SS, Ascari (British), Noble (also British). Yet they can't make a legitimate run for the Corvette ZR1, because they're embarrassed that it's faster than their $300,000+ favorites. Corvette is the 3rd fastest around the Nurburgring (6 seconds faster than Enzo), yet it's a second and a half slower than Enzo around their track - a high speed track....funny.....

@iwasadeum... u cannot compare the Corvette on the Nurburgring track with the top gear track lol... that track is mostly straight stretch of road with a few corners, so the car has time to reach its top speeds before going into a corner mate, where as on the top gear track, there isnt enough straight stretch of track for a car to reach its maximum speed mate, cause u come to a corner too soon, and also de track is smaller.

The taillights on the Ferrari always bothered me. Some reason I feel it would've been better with two on each side like the F430. Something small to complain about, but just my opinion.

As a car journalist I would definitely buy the Italia because of the excitement and emotion which originally comes from the loud noise but, as a normal sensible customer I would definitely buy the McLaren because it's exciting in sort of calm and poised kind of way, I can take this to cruise along the country roads without breaking my bottom or a headache. The McLaren is mean't to be an every day car.
I would take the McLaren over Ferrari any time.

i've watched a few comparison between the 458 and mp4-12c and all of them prefer the 458 italia and i guess ferrari has a better drive but i still prefer mclaren though

Jeremey just makes stuff up to have a lead to his segments. The McLaren absolutely smokes the Ferrari in terms of design. The 458 has all kinds of cheesy gimmicks all over it to grab attention (just look at the spider-eye headlights and the weird nob taillights... bleh). WTF with the name though? MP4-12C is embarrassing.
