The only trains that are rerouted over the S line that would have been regular trains over Saluda are 66E and 67E which are woodchip trains for Canton NC. And 750 series coal trains for Belmont NC. Which are now taken down the Danville District to Salisbury and down to Belmont NC.
@bsauerteig The woodchips seen in this video originated from Capps Brothers Wood Yard in Landrum, SC, which is about a half-mile from where the line is cut going to Saluda. Their destination is the Blue Ridge Paper Mill in Canton, NC. What used to be a 70 mile trip is now closer to 300. It must be a more efficient route or they wouldn't be doing it.
You are welcome. I live outside Philadelphia and visit my folks in Asheville every so often. In the last 20 years I have tried to visit "The Southern Loops" quite a bit. It is hard to find a train. We were leaving, having given up hope on seeing anything. Low and behold we were back down by Old Fort and here comes the local up the hill. It is a special place and the locals are very welcoming even to a Yankee. Glad you enjoyed it.
The S-line starts in Morristown,TN, follows the French Broad River to Asheville, then goes through Hickory, over to Salisbury.

Not sure. Towards the end, Saluda hosted only a paltry amount of coal traffic. I guess the traffic could be routes on the S-Line now.

Yea, everytime we go up there, a train always comes when we are about to give up. Of course thats the way it is anywhere on the S-line.
