Bruce somehow finds a way to find a close part of life inside ourselves that is very meaningfull. Its nice to hear a song that says its ok to have a father who spent 18 yrs in louisiana pen for bootlegging way back before i was born and did the best he could once he got out and still made a go of it. One fathers day cops came knockin, alone in that whitewashed shotgun shack my old man passed away.
In 1974, a very handsome, 25 year old Bruce Springsteen & the E-Street band took the stage. I was a 14 year old Redhead from Texas, right in front of him, less than 10 feet away. It was LOVE at first sight. LOL 300 shows later, all over the world, each show incredible. Some shows close to 5 hours long. Yes, we both have some years on us. Times have changed. Our World is falling down around us. Bruce has never let me down. Those that know what Bruce is about, know what I speak of. Peace~~
@cassiusclaynyc - Thanks for your comment. I am glad to "meet" as it were, someone who really "got" and still "gets" what Bruce and the E-Street band, as well as other Musicians that have shared the stage with him. There really was, and hopefully will be more magical moments... Peace :-)
@AbsyntheLady ...wow,just loved your comment on Bruce...been a fan since 1980 & have been to all his shows in Ireland...but 300...my sweet jesus..you should be on the e-street band..awsome,well done to you..looking forward to seeing Bruce & the e-street boys, sadly minus the Big C,& Dan Federici...back in Dublin this coming July 2012...may you enjoy another 300 nights in the company of the GREATEST live performer on the planet...Slainte good lady..
Does annyone know wich key the harmonica is in? ive been trying to work it out. G is the one thats been working kinda good, but it feels like some parts like the one around 2 min cant be played with a G harmonica. thank you for the help.
@U2rockzz bruce is using a mic that changes the sound of the harmonica. so G probably is right. but it sounds different on the video because of that mic
I always love how Bruce modifies his songs when he plays live. This version of Reason to Believe is the BEST alteration he has ever done!!! That said, I just wish he would stay the hell out of politics because he is tarnishing his legacy!
I always love how Bruce modifies his songs when he plays live. This version of Reason to Believe is the alteration he has ever done!!! That said, I just wish he would stay the hell out of politics because he is tarnishing his legacy!
I never get why some of his fans feel this way; isn't it pretty obvious that his songs themselves are political and address the harsh realities that politics and the breakdown of our political system have played a large part in the working class decline that bruce sings about in so many of his songs?
I always make the same point when people say "he should stay the hell out of politics." It really makes me think that those people don't listen to his lyrics, or at least they don't think about them afterward. To hate "Bruce getting political" would mean you dislike about 1/3 of his catalog.
I just stumbled on this. Reason to Believe is one of my favorite songs, still this version is quite poor. I really do not get the boogie groove, it really does not fit the song. It is a bit sad to see well respected American musicians give such a superficial version of the Blues.
@favino67 at least he got the balls to change his songs. He plays born in the USA regularly acoustic for instance. I don't know many artists who dare to change their most famous songs.
@favino67 - Stumbled upon this, did you? I looked for your version of this song on your page, which I am guessing is far superior to this "quite poor Superficial version of the Blues, that you find a bit sad to see" Perhaps "when you stumbled on this" you forgot that you had the ability to not listen to this song, or any others that you don't like. Maybe there is not an option to turn "unpleasant" things off where you live. That is sad. I sure hope you are not permanently harmed. Be well. :-)
I just stumbled on this. Reason to believe is one of my favorite songs, still the version is really poor. I really do not get the boogie groove, it is kind of sad to hear American musicians to give such a superficial version of the blues.
I admit to knowing nothing about cameras. BUT I do KNOW that after following Bruce's recordings and concerts since 1974, that even as a young teenager, I KNEW Bruce had what I needed and wanted and the fact that you captured the COMPLETE essence of Bruce surrendering to the crowd and letting them and everyone that sees this, that THIS is indeed an artist that leads a group of incredible musicians in what remains to be the best Music for MY money. The "little butt' shake did not hurt either. :-)
Bruce is the only musician I know that can work an audience and people actually listen!. Even I would hush for this man and that says a lot) Great A/V thanks!
Wow amazing recording , i watched this video a year ago but recently came bak to this after a little dissapointing working on a dream tour which was aimed at new audiences and not the oldies :D anyway i remember this performance at the O2 arena and was defanitely a highlight along with because the night
I've been watching this video every day since I discovered it about a month ago. Bruce did Reason to Believe last month at Hershey Park in PA. (8/19/08) This brings it all back and more. Thanks. It's a great video.
GREAT BRUCE VIDEO!! I have a teen-oriented, hockey themed book coming out in October which has over 25 Bruce song and characters from Bruce songs, references (the hockey team is named the Magic Rats, the lead character plays hockey "undeneath Abrams Bridge" etc)!!
I did a promo video for the book and you can see the video by just clicking on my name.
Outstanding. "Reason to Believe" is a highlight of the Magic tour and this is the best video I've seen of this song. Gotta grab the entire Milan dvd if it's not too late.
Brilliant!!!!!!!!!Probably the two out standing reinterpretations which Bruce has done in the recent past is this one here and Youngstown. For all their brilliance, imagine how these albums would have sounded with the full E street treatment!
Maybe, although Springsteen's studio work rarely reaches the level of his concerts. I have wondered how it would turn out if, instead of recording in a studio, he made an album of new songs by playing them live. Springsteen could, and of course would, vary the arrangements up enough so this process would be analogous to studio experimentation.
I was at the concert that night..this song and the following Adam raised a cain were the best moments of the show..in italy bruce is always at his best...
Absolutely not. I listen to every version I can find. When I said original, I meant the older live versions (late 70s). Also when I said to back and listen to it again, I was referring to the original live versions. Live is always better then studio. I like this version, just not as much as his earier live ones. Bruce is the best!
Yeah same here. It's actually interesting to trace the history of the song through its different "incarnations" if you will... Your opinion, ur entitled to it, and I apologize for jumpin on ya like that. We cool?
fantastic camera, especially the bit when mighty max pounds the drums, then zooms out to catch bruce bring in the lyrics. Parts could stand to be tilted down, though.
By the way, yes, you went way overboard on the overlay in the beginning.
This performance is one of the reasons why we believe. The song rocked the crowd as hard as 'Promised Land' and 'Badlands'; I was part of it in 2007 in Mannheim and Cologne, both in Germany. Thanks for great coverage!
As far the song goes, great song. Nils does a great slide solo.
As far as the camera work goes, it would have been better if you could get more close ups on Bruce (and Nils during his solo). Also, the camera was shaking a little but at parts, Try to cut that out. You didn't do a bad job shooting though, and the sound and mixes were dead on, so good job on that.
As said in the description, I didn't film or record this. The show was in Italy, and I'm in the U.K., that would have been some *serious* optical zoom ;)
The video is from Max's DVD and Marisa's DVD, and the audio is the 'White Owl' recording.
I don't want to take any credit for their brilliant work. And it is brilliant, IMO, much closer and more steady than many other audience shot videos.
I just edited the two video sources together, and dubbed the audio.
Is there anyone better at re-arranging a song, changing it from a great song to another..., great song? He's has done this so skillfully with, e.g., For You, Incident on 57th Street, Thunder Road, No Surrender, and 3/4s the songs played on the Ghost of Tom Joad (1996-97) and Devils & Dust (2005) solo tours. Genius.
I have always loved this song, athough at first I completely misinterpreted it!! Now there is no mistaking the message. It was awesome live on this tour. I love the way Bruce rearranges new songs and makes them fresh. So many great songs were re-done for the Seeger Sessions and sounded great in a new context.
Nicely done tailschao. The edits between the CAMS views are well placed and it doesn't feel like there are any that are unnecessary. I think the overlaying works very well here - although perhaps if you were to use it too frequently on some of the other songs it might seem a little gimmicky. That fact that you are worried about it is a good sign and I'm sure you'll not overdo any artistic urges :-)
Looking forward to seeing the whole thing. Keep up the good/hard work!
