  • Whats with the audio I was not aware that britney spears did a concert there in 1941

  • Schade, das war nicht nötig, das Schiff zu versenken. Der auffand die Tirpitz zu versenken, war sicher teurer als ihr Bau!

  • As beautiful as the pictures of Tirpitz anchoring in the Fjords are: Its a shame they did hide it there nearly all the time of her career. Battleships are made for the open sea. She should have built a team alongside Bismarck to reign the Atlantic Ocean in Summer 1941.

  • What's the name of the second music?

  • @rexxar12345 ADAIGO FOR STRINGS BY SAMUEL BARBER.

  • i live in tromsø, and i can say that tirpiz have left its mark on my coutry and city. thou not in a bad way, but i'n a good way. my grand father was working on the shipwreck as a armor salvager. thou there are still marks after the tallbombs on håkøya. i'm visiting the tirpiz monmument several times every year.

sadly it ended the way it did, but she was a fine ship. and leader of a country is nazi, that dosn't mean that the rest of the pepole living in that very same country nazis..

  • @Amongru Very well spoken Sir.

  • Hey Tommys, so ein Schiff muss man im Seekrieg vernichten, und nicht feige aus der Luft, die Bismarck hat euch doch gezeigt wie´s geht!!!

  • @deuschritter Why did Tirpitz spend the whole war hiding in a Fjord, who it the cowards?!

  • @pointy2 They did not whanted this masterpiece of war to fall on enemy hands... some people say they sink theyr own ship because of that...

Thats why "superweapons" are not efficient as it should be. Its a demonstration of power. Today we have nukes, lol...

  • @pointy2 The Tirpitz kept there, because it was all it had to do. The might of that ship alone kept the half UK Battleship fleet at home, just to be ready to attack that ship

  • My Great grandad worked on this ship. When she sank, probaly by my British GreatGrandad (Dont know if he was flying the Lancasters at the time but he was in the RAF during WW2) Anyway, when she sank, he went missing, presumed dead. Im British, my mother is German, But im very proud to say he sailed on this ship. and I wish he was still alive so I could Ask him about it. And just going to say. He wasnt a Nazi, he just fought for is country. So please stop calling Germans Nazis. thanks.

  • @RobinCalderwood : You are so right about the patriotism of the germans !

  • @RobinCalderwood When you fight for a military you dont always go completely ignorant of what your country's leaders are doing. Take for instance the U.S. You think our military does not know what pain and suffering we are causing overseas with all the invasions and bombings just for oil. Think again nazi

  • @enchilada01 Lol. your making no sense. You twat. What you are saying has nothing to do what I said? Think again you US mother fucking no idea little prick.

  • @RobinCalderwood fuck you, we should bomb your pink ass and let nature take its course of natural selection

  • advances in aviation made these ships almost obsolete early in the war. So many were sunk in harbors, at anchor.

  • Oh boy if I was there with my flak in that period , I had shot so much that my gun barrels running glow red.

  • @freeharddrive : Me too...

  • so sad :( Wish that the ship didnt get destroyed so it could be on the seas nowadays for new conquers

  • @Khylfens If u want to see the ship of those times see HMS Belfast achored in london thames river open for tourist..

  • hey guys you are forgetting that Germany was preparing for war and built bunkers and stuff like that to hide behind meanwhile everyone else had to hide behind their friends. i think that might have been a serious impact not to mention they had an unbelievably strong motivation to fight (German society). you also have to understand that nobody else was in the middle of a revolution that was trying to end the war not to mention the plentiful assassination attempts on Hitler.

  • which is better ? the Bismark or Tirptz against firepower ,protection and ability or ETC.

  • The music later on, from 3:30 is Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings opus 11.

Yay for Roy Chadwick's Lancaster and Barnes Wallis's Tallboys!

It is unfortunate that so many people and ships died for a lunatic, but once it was started Germany was bound to suffer. The alternative to Germany losing would have been unthinkable for the rest of us. Sorry Germans, you were in the wrong and had this coming.

  • @cageordie

why do you think all of this happend, why hitler became the leader? ow right, because germany had been taken everything after W01, one bread cost over a million mark. quite clear people choose someone who could change that. I would love to see that you had to go to a supermarket with your cartrunk filled of 100 dollar biljets just to buy food. and the only reason that germany lost the war was because they hadn't such a big warmachine like the ussr or the usa

  • @thebiest100 Both Germany and Japan were under considerable pressure when they decided to go to war. Both were very ill advised in the short term and did better in the long run. Logistically the US support for Britain and Russia made it impossible for Japan and Germany to win, but British technology destroyed Bismark and Tirpitz and the U boats and cities. Don't try to rewrite history.

  • @cageordie

no that is correct, britain technology made it possible to defeat germany, all i say is that germany had in the late stage of war beter technology and weapens as the allies, but couldn't manufacture them because everything was destroyed by air raids. don't forget about the xxi submarine, the v2 missile and the nuclear bom project,

  • @cageordie

Well in my opinion Britain was step behind away from germany, no USA interwention = ENG fail , british technology ? Wo00oo0ot ? Germany was superrior in any way , they just were out-numbered :)

  • @cageordie sorry you are way wrong here surely without the support from the USA ,

england and the russian surely would lost the war against germany.the germans had the best engineers and best scientist way ahead from england or russia but they didnt had enough time to produce more ships like the bismark and the tirpitz.imagine my friend a half dozen ships from the class like the bismark oh yeaah this could have been a funny seacruise for the royal navy anyway history and no hard feelings ok?

  • I've seen the anchor chains on the tipitz, but there was a lot of rust on them since they were used in a mine.

  • That stupid thing was just a target waiting to be sunk. Battleships are over rated. A few hits and it's all over. The Germans would have done better to send her out to fight rather than hiding her where she was useless.

  • @Roadghost88 She was kept there as a 'threat' and considerable naval resources were employed in case she broke out to attack the Russian Convoys. She did a lot to tie up resources by just sitting in Norway. And she remained a big threat until she was sunk. One battleship alone can't do a lot, but Tirpitz did. Other than go out in a blaze of glory, like Bismarck, of course. That may be more exciting, but less effective in the longer term. The losses on Tirpitz rivalled that of Bismarck.

  • @Roadghost88 They tried that with Tirpitz's sister ship, the Bismarck. It did not quite work out as planned. Tirpitz would have suffered the same fate, so instead hitler decided to make her a fleet in being in order to tie up British resources that could have been better used elsewhere. It was a brilliant stratgey. As a result from the time of her launch to the time she sank Churchill sent something like 40 attack waves after the Tirpitz due to the threat she posed. In the end dumb luck sunk it

  • she was and ever will be: the lonesome queen of the north

  • To the better understanding why the Tirpitz hide in the fjords. As long she is seaworthy, she might slip to the convoys and cause havoc. In scapa flow were 2 british battleships kept ready all the time to counter her, in case she sortied. Also the conjoys need stronger protection just through her existence.Churchill mentioned 1943 that the loss of this ship will shift the balance on sea in the war.

  • What's all this rubbish about cowardly air attacks. You could say the Germans were cowards hiding in the Fjords. It was a bloody war, and anything is justified in destroying an instrument of death. You people make me sick with your silly respect for a country that murdered millions of innocent people in concentration camps and death camps. Don't post garbage about the cowardly British, you sound stupid.

  • @AleCaeser

if you look only to the military success of germany, that is something to have respect for. indeed, killing all of those people is horrible and wrong, but not every german agreed with hitler, in fact, you had two groups, the wehrmacht, the main force and they were less radical ass hitler, and then you have the ss, the assholes of hitler. But don't you forget that the british sunk the entire french fleet in a neutral port? or what about stalin and his mass murder, far more deaths

  • @thebiest100 interesting comment surely all major european countrys had their aweful decade.killing people is not nice and no solution anyway

  • i have the tirpitz as an plastic modelkit :P and i like it

  • Dude, cool video, but learn to spell. English is not that difficult of a language, is it?

  • The Germans could sure build the best looking Warships. There was nothing cowardly in bombing her as those aircrew took great risks just as the brave sailors on the ship they attacked did. Total war is not always glorious in its outcomes.

The allies wanted to avoid the huge potential losses that a confrontation on the high seas would bring. Germany would have done exactly the same.

  • RIP

  • I don't get the German leaders of the time. All they did with the Tirpitz was move it from fjiord to fjiord for 4 years until the Brits finally managed to sink her. Coupled with the Bismarck and a couple of strong escorts, the Tirpitz could have kicked a lot of ass in the Atlantic.

  • it wasnt Tromsø Fjord. It was Sandnessundet and on Håkøya

  • It was in April of 1945 that "all the world learned of the passing of Franklin Delano Roosevelt " The music offerred here late in this presentation which was played on NBC Radio when it was announced that FDR had passed away will long be remembered as the "Adagio For Strings"

  • the tirpitz only went after unarmed merchant navy ships and sank them you talk about RAF.being heroic so wot do call german navy {kriegsmarine} you need to get a life mate

  • @MegaCeramic You both clearly lack the understanding of Strategic attack and tactical attack. Convoy = Strategic victory if sucessful, Tirpitz was a tactical Victory and had no strategic importance at all. If you live on an Island... the strategic game plan would be to Starve that country of rescources.... Plain.. simple... Thats the problem of living on an Island.

  • The English were SO heroic to sink a ship at anchor.

  • The simple answer to the reason of the demise of the battleship is that they were a weapon of death designed for a 2d world. All great things must come to an end, the battleship is no exception.

  • yamato had range and armor and huge guns that is it american warships were closer to german battleships both favored good fire control systems and radar allowing them to score more hits then the yamato. While it is true a hit from the yamato would by devasting to any ship. It was pretty hard to do

  • why is it that tirpitz looks bigger then bismarck?

  • @andrewd1120 Tirpitz was longer a bit than Bismarck indeed.

  • you should make a tribute film to the brave men who dropped tallboy bombs on those nazi fuckers

  • @MrTrilove Why ? It was easy to sink her. An action likt this makes anyone a war hero ?

  • @MrTrilove Brave men? You could have called them brave if they fought a fair fight. In any case, they took several attempts at destroying the Tirpitz (docked for 4 years) before they did any damage. Useless Navy. No bravery there.

  • @alxcsb That is very disrepectful... ANYONE who serves their country is somewhat brave to begin with. So saying the Men of the Kreigsmarine were not brave is just really inconsiderate at best. You dont get it, because your not a historian for one, otherwise you would not be asking why you dont get why they moved Tirpitz from place to place.... Germany's Surface Fleet was depleted, there were no escorts for Him.

  • @JuergenGDB

    Agreed!

  • chills fly up my spine. EXCellent

  • Imagine Bismark and Tirpitz side by side they wuld have bin inviceble.

  • rip

  • forever Deutschland ha,ha,ha two english bomb and....... death

  • HMS Hood - some German bursters and ... welcome to bed.

  • two english bombs weighting 5000 pounds....thats enough explosives to level pretty much any building. drop one on the pentagon and there would be nothing left. those ships were top of the line in there days. why must people laugh at them? they were kings of their time. and a unstopable force against other sea vessels. used properly they would have owned the sea's not even the yamato could face them and win. a sim was done over ten thousand times yamato faced the bismark 14 times she won

  • @w650cafe69 Idiot!

  • @w650cafe69 it took several attempts to sink her the Germans however dir really sink the Italian battleship " Roma " with 2 remote control bombs first time used in history and with sucess

  • @psymodeller haha, they went through the chimney into the ship and detonatet (at least one of them) - that was more luck than technology :P

  • @w650cafe69 It took about 4 years and the Tirpitz sank afer a cowardly air attack.

  • Tirpitz certainly ha potential, but the Nazis didn't want lose her in the way Bismarck was!! In the end, air power won the war.

Can you image her with Bismarck, Prinz Eugen & her sisterships, Scharnhorst, Gneisenau?! That would been quite a sight, terrifying for the allies, But still impressive!!

  • Waste of a powerful and beautiful battleship -she was a ship moored there cos Hitler did not want it to go the same way as her sister ship-Bismarck.Better to send them both out with cruiser and air cover-otherwise whats the point of building these powerful battleships?

  • good video,Such a powerful yet beautiful as well,Warship,so sad she served the Nazi's.Without fleet support, especially air cover, she never stood a chance.Powerfull but blind

  • big battle ship but cowardly used, like to have seen what she would have done against the might of the royal navy kgv and the prince of wales would have taken her out also hms vangard

  • @dazval1968 Not Cowardly used, Smartly used... It would have shared the same fate as the Bismarck if she left where she was. The entire British navy had their eyes fixed on it for almost the entire war

  • you are right. sending her out with the entire german navy and the bismarck had it still been around wouldnt have saved her. the entire british navy would ahve hunted the convoy down. even after a fight the sheer number of planes would have done the fleet in. the british navy would have suffered but the german navy would have been crushed. she sould have been taken south a hiden somewhere maybe the antartic.

  • correct me if i'm wrong, but didn't she differ from Bismark on the fact that she possessed Torpedo Tubes?

  • @Soundwave3591

not only that, but better AA deference, better radar systems

  • no not really she was a lil bit bigger and i do billeave your right she did have torpedos but the two ships were of the same class (super battleship) and were made by the same creator.

  • you are right

  • wtf...the punisher-soundtrack?

  • Soundtrack from the rock

  • And Adagia for strings ( Platoon Soundtrack)

  • 2:32 - Majestic image!

  • at 1.11 - 1.15 is taken in bogen, in the ofot-fjord close to Narvik.

  • A battleship does not belong in a fjord. Thats why norway never had a battleship or will have ever. At that time we had coastal patrol ships from 1st world war that had over 100 peoples stationed in each ships. It was large ships at the time but the 2nd world war battleship was like 100 times better :P

  • very interesting.

just get somebody to help you with your english!

  • the movies is excellent, thanks you !!

  • Hello everyone, yeah.. I love the stories of Bismarck and tirpitz ... these ships were so incredibly powerful. This video is really nicely done. Does anyone know the name of the soundtrack in it ?

  • Comment removed

  • God bless Tirpitz why would the RN hunt her if it was almost the end of the war? Long live Tirpitz and her might! She could crush the RN and still haunts them for killing her and her sister the Mighty Bismark. Together they could crush any ship the RN had. By the way whats the song?

  • The great Tirpitz shall always haunt her nemisis britian is powerless agianst her might. Long live the great Tirpitz. O by the way what is this song it's very good!!

  • Thanks for this great great video and an powerfull sound

    Rest in Peace

The German Fans from the Battelship Bismarck and her Sistership Tirpitz

  • The story of the Tirpitz in some ways reminds me of the fate of the Yamato, because they both spent most of their existence in hiding, only to get trumped by air power.

  • also the bismarck

  • Great and powerfull ship.Too bad it didnt show his true firepower.

    Great video.

For the Tirpitz and its crew, R.I.P.

  • These cowards could only attack the Tirpitz with Bombs.

  • LOL... In all the time I've viewed Youtube clips, this has to be the most bloody stupid comment I've ever come across!

Why did the cowardly Tirpitz not stop hiding in Norwegian waters, and face her enemies in a straight fight?

Or maybe your brilliant, strategical brain will let the rest of the world know the proper way of dealing with a cowardly battleship which refuses to do anything in case it might get a scratch on its paintwork?

  • What is your point and who are the cowards? The British sent midget submarines to penetrate fijord and kept the ship out of battle condition. The ship could only hide in the remotest part of the world. You score no mark for your comment.

  • They were murderers as well they killed her her crew even when they knew the war was coming to a close.

  • Scharnhorst was a battleCRUISER while Graf Spee was a POCKET battleship, so, they were not "true" battleships. Both were much weaker than the Tirpitz.

Anyhow, RIP all of them and their brave crews.

  • Tirpitz and Bismarck and allthe other german Battleships ( Scharnhorst, Graaf Spee ect. )

    Rest in Peace !!!!!!!!!!

my Grandfather was on the on the Heavy Cruiser Blücker.......

  • RIP Tirpitz

  • Definitely great collection of photos, works very well with music especially second track Adagio for strings is an epic choice.

  • Those recon photos are awesome!!

  • Bismark-- one sortie-one old battlecruiser (HMS Hood). Tirpitz- Royal navy capital ships tied up in home waters for most of the war when they could have been used somewhere else- Just incase Tirpitz attemps a sortie into the convoy routes. She caused the Brits more grief laying in a fiord then the Bismarks few star struck hours. RIP Tirpitz

  • someone said imagine them side by side with a heavy cruiser and 2 battlecruisers scharnhorst n tirpitz..

imagine the queen elizabeth , warspite , valiant , nelson , rodney , hood , KGV and POW in a battle formation with 10 heavy cruisers 10 large light cruisers and 5 fleet carriers.

  • Not that impressive either (the USN and IJN where capable of fielding similar sized and/or large taskforces). It isn't about the taskforce which a nation can field, but the individual ships that make up the task force. In my humble ''opinion'', most British BBs and CAs weren't that impressive during WWII.

The Queen Elizabeth, Warspite (impressive service record though) and valiant where outdated WWI battleships.

  • Nelson and Rodney are in my opinion one of the most ugly ships that ever roamed the seas. Sorry to say it, but they are really butt-ugly. The KGV-class BB would have serious trouble taking out a Bismarck-battleship. Though every battleship became obsolete after 7th December 1941.

  • You are correct: Bismarck wreck analysis very recently, with a detailed examination of the armor belt shows out of over 300+ hits, only 4 penetrations by BB-caliber shells, all believed to be Rodney's 16in shells. There were no 14in penetrations. Thus it would make it very hard for a KG5-class BB to gain the upper hand vs. a Bismarck-class ship in 1941. By 1943, centrimetric radar would give a ridiculous advantage to DukeofYork vs Scharnhorst at NorthCape--first salvo knocked out A+B turrets

  • Hack, one example above all: ww1, german U-boot U-9 (under the command of the KptLt Otto Weddingen) sunk, within 75 minutes, 3 british armoured cruisers, the HMS "Cressy", "Hogue" and "Aboukir" on the 22.nd of Sept. 1914.

  • That what u mentioned would be certainly a "dream team" of the seas, but, as i said, NOTHING without an excellent antisub and antiaircraft escort.

It would be enough one/two british subs, in a good position to fire, to send the "deam team" to the Kingdom come.

What i want to say, Hack, is you must never forget that (Doenitz knew that fact very well) the submarine were/are/will be the most formidable, dangerous and deadly naval weapon ever put to sea.

  • Hell yeah.......i wonder WHO would/could stop that battlegroup..haha, certainly not ONE Swordfish..haha

  • The "Bismarck" and the "Tirpitz" could gone together in the fight but ONLY with an excellent antisub and antiaircraft protection, no way without that "shield", it would be a suicide mission (as u see from the history, "Bismarck" was doomed because of a fucking ww1 torpedoplane "Swordfish" and "Tirpitz" just the same, because of a bombers).

  • what is the song you use form this video is so good if is oh right what you can tell what is these song are call if is ok will you

  • R.I.P "Tirpitz"

  • And nice choice of the soundtrack, from the film "The Rock".

  • Never to be 4gotten.....the DKM "Tirpitz"...alongside with her much famous sistership DKM "Bismarck" was the most elegant warships of ALL time, one of the most beautiful things ever made by human hand.

DKM TIRPITZ & DKM BISMARCK WILL NEVER BE FORGET!

  • half the pilots flying with the 161(could be wrong) but something like that was from canada one was from america a few from australia and some from britian watch the videos about the damn busters they are the same air crew that downed the mighty tirpitz she was a beutiful battleship say the least germany wasted her

  • it was scuttled? Like the Bismark???

  • Thanks for the Great Video please give us more ,Thanks from Germany we love it

  • That ship was sunken right outside my hometown

  • wath realy???

can you see the tirpitz on the ground?

  • I think its been removed, but you can see big holes on the beach from the bombs.

  • germans did everything on their own, the italian guys were useless!

we had to save their asses in africa and they did nothing in france or to avoid the invasion!

  • canada if my memery was a comonwealth of the british empire and so was part of the empire forces like the new zealandes and austrilans and south africans and inidas and so on its part of the empire and so was not doing all this on its own mmmmm like saying the italians over ran france or the germans did it all on there own total crap

  • She was a really nice battleship. I think the Battleships today aren't so beautyfull and legendary like the Battleships in the second World War or before.

  • Thats because no battleship has been build since second world war!!!!!!

  • Beautiful ship and she had plenty of nice paint schemes too! Now what's this buzz about Canada winning the war? Valiant contributor, but 3rd largest navy? (U.S., U.K., Japan...Where's Canada?) 6th Largest Air Force? (U.S., U.K., U.S.S.R., Japan, Germany, Italy.) I could be wrong, but I seem to feel the major players still have those ranks...

  • It was the biggest battleship germany ever built

  • I just want to add thet the number of bombs that impacted Tirpitz before she capzised were 5 5.45 ton bombs.

Apart from topic, beautiful ship, alamost any battleship is a fine piece of ingeneering and beautiful art.

  • Jimderkaiser what sort of history you study?

Judging your post only Canada really fight in II World War and other nations just assist in thier heroic achievements ;).

And back to topic... if Raeder dont act so haste and wait a little longer who known how operation Rheinubung will end if they will send "Bismarck" and "Tirpitz" together.

And honestly keeping in 1944 "Tirpitz" in Norway was huge mistake because of lack air coverage and it was only mater of time when she was sunk :(

  • Alltogether they were strong, but Germany kicked asses on its own! Russia was the only enemy to keep up, despite being favoured by the winter and its home turf!

  • What a beauty..The lonely queen of the north.

  • you got that right.. She was still a pretty-girl, so was her older sister Bizmarck..

    NIKKI

  • Hallo! Tolles Video! Welche Musik ist denn das?

Hi! Superb video! Which music is this?

  • Das ist der Soundtrack vom Film THE ROCK

  • best vid on youtube over this great mighty beautiful ship Tirpitz

  • can't beleive my country(canada) sink this beautifull ship....

  • Jimderkaisser,

it was actually britain who sank her. just as a side note she is about a feet-longer then her older sister Bismarck and still just as Beautiful :)

    NIKKI

  • Dude that is a lies...canada drop the Dam Buster, and destroyed the Tirpitz with British RAF...the Normandy was a canadian victory and for sure his allies but without canada the Normandy operation failed with terrible loose...because canada had french canadian who was sent in 1942 (2years before Normandy)...The RCAF had so many number of victory, half of the RAF was trained here in Canada, and still trained today during Exercise Maple Flag.

when you see "British" that mean: Canada,NZ,Australia...

  • Jim,

the Names Nikki. i know what i'm talking about,i did a article on her for school, i know what i'm talking about ok.. i'm not saying canada was not an allie, to britain, but her biggest allie was the US. But canada is part of the US right, i could be wrong on that..

  • Canada liberate : Italy,France,North Africa...save american ass in failed largest airborn operation in Market Garden..canada liberate netherlands today if you travel in European country who liberate by canadian and you say "I'm canadian" people see you like a god,liberator....

  • Your an F'ing retard. Canada liberated Italy, France, N. Africa, and saved Market Garden, as well as the Netherlands? What idiotic history class did you go to? You must have been high on cough medicine. Yes, Canada was a courageous ally, but it was America and the Brits that bore the most burden there. And yes, I have been there, I know what you say is lies.

  • Market Garden was a loose from British and American, canada liberate Netherlands, France and Africa with British. American only participed in 1941, to 1945 and canada in september 10,1939 to 1945.

1 Million soldiers serve in Canadian Forces, many in navy (canada had the third largest navy and 6 largest airforces in all history).

In Netherland said you're canadian they considered you like a god. Stfu american doing nothing in WW2, the first victim in Pacific were canadian in Hong Kong.

  • I dont think Canada is part of the USA, last I checked at least! lol

  • it's part on north america..

    nikki

  • shame they did not reduce the crew down to the ships cat after the first tallboy raid that damaged the hull beyond repair, another great video.

  • Holy TIRPITZ!!

  • thanks. I hope to do a sereis of videos of Titanic's sister Olympic next.

  • Another excellent video
