One of the many ironies about Saddam is that, if it weren't for him providing safe harbor to Ayatollah Khomeini in the sixties, and the Shah putting pressure on Iraq to deport Khomeini rather than execute him, there may have never been an Iran-Iraq war. I think the lesson is: everything you do in that region will eventually bite you in the ass.

Who ever gets into the whitehouse next or if Obama stays in for another hitch, the USA needs to address this drug / violence problem Mexico has with care and compassion. The point is not to make you feel "guilty" about historical facts that ocurred before the US existed as it is today. The point is that you cant stop something that has being happenin since Columbus days: Inmigration and settlement. Either way Inmigration isnt the same thing as violent military intervention such as the Viethnam, IRAQ, Afgan, Lybia, etc.. done by the US colonialism program.
