  • I was just pmsl when gene hunt was kicking that bloke on the ground.. Gene Hunt bashing him with a metal bin lid I have never laughed so hard...

  • A stroke of genius. Need to get Dr Mop on the case to sort poor Sam's fucking head out.....

  • GOOD OL TV VIOLENCE

  • That puppet looks like Neil Morrissey.

  • 348 people like to see gene hunt kicking in a nonce!

  • Epic

  • love it just gotta love it

  • "Do you know who's in it today?" Looks like Christopher Eccleston as the Ninth Doctor to me, man.

  • @ProjectFlashlight612 No,it's John Simm.

  • "I'll say this once, and once only Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green!"

    Best quote EVER.

  • A brilliant sketch in a truly brilliant series - only one complaint, why didn't they get Brian Cant to narrate it? He was the narrator on the original 'Camberwick Green' and so definitely the top choice.

  • I wish they'd do a full length video to Half Man Half Biscuit's "Trumpton Riots" like this...

  • Gene needs to STAY OUT OF CAMBERWICK GREEN.

  • The rubbish bin, sorry, "dustbin", lid just cracks me the Hell up.

  • "Is it Gene Hunt? Is he kicking in a nonce?"

  • This is my favorite show of the last, say, 10 years. Then again, I don't watch much TV, and the stuff I do watch is usually on DVD or re-runs years after it's done. I only discovered this show in January when they started airing it on public television here in the US. Thank goodness they did! Since then I have bought both seasons.

  • Absolutely brilliant, better than the telly!

  • REALLY funny for those of us of a certain age lmao!!!

  • I love Gene's wave, it makes me laugh every time XD

  • The head-in-hands pose was distinctly Weeping Angel...anybody else think so?

  • @xxwanting NOOOOOOO don't ruin this scene for me! Now I won't be able to watch this without getting the shivers. :S

  • Absolutely first class. Think this and the 'Blue Peter Garden' sequence in A2A were extremely well thought out and clever.

  • @ajball2000 Yes the Blue Peter Garden sketch was pretty damn funny, particularly for those like me who are old enough to remember when it got vandalised.

  • @DarkAngel182 know what you mean. I was sitting there watching that and had one of those 'oh yeah, I remember this' moments. So it was Gene hunts fault then lol

  • @timelord1994 no he wwent to the pub ack round 1980 and went to heaven thats why alex couldnt find him

  • lmfao

  • stay out of camberwick green!

  • stay out of camberwick green!

  • Oh,,, how I long for the day when being "Politically Correct" is punishable by hanging and nonces receive the Edward II award for sodomy ...The good old days

  • How odd, at least 7 nonces have viewed this vid according to the rating!

  • Roll on Good Friday at 9PM!!!

  • Yes!

  • lul

  • These days the Metropolitan Police of London (biggest employer of Lesbians in the UK) are more concerned with arresting the people who stop the nonces - forget about British cops "kicking them in" if you bugger a young boy it is a just a light caution.

  • looks like an Oasis fan

  • it's john simm!!

  • its the Master!

  • the American Version of this sucks

  • Anyone seen the Spanish version yet?

  • Sam Tyler made me think of Mark E. Smith from The Fall

  • @hartmusc A young MES ! Mark looks more like Gollum from LOTR now unfortunately!

  • Loved the US version (saw it first) and love the UK version. Provides and interesting contrast between the two nations. That aside, really wish this clip had gone further though. Was bloody brilliant.

  • I love the term nonce, always makes me laugh :D

  • Prison Service Terminology for Not On Normal Circulatory Exersise.

  • this is so cute.i laugh everytime i watch this, especially when gene and the nonce wave to the camere.

  • Fucking scary

  • I need to see Martin Freeman as Windy Miller!

  • "hello sam, how are you today? oh dear, not very happy. is it gene hunt? is he kicking in a nonce?"

All funny quotes, but i tend to laugh more at the actions of sam, gene and the nonce as the quotes are being said!

I am a fan of this series, but not the US version. I live in the US and wanted to give it a fair shake, but to me, NO ONE could play Gene Hunt like Philip Glenister!

  • you took the words STRAIGHT out of my mouth. philip glenister was born for the part of gene hunt! i was purely insulted when i saw clips of the american gene, i was like WTF?!

  • the bit that always makes me laugh is when Gene Hunt stops beating up the nonce, they both wave to the camera, and then Gene Hunt continues to spang the nonce with a dustbin lid.

  • @randybullcow gotta agree there, that is so funny, down with the fist and up with the boot.only got to think about it and I'm laughing...

  • Lol! Genius!

  • one of the funniest things ever

  • I wonder if the U.S. version would have done someting like this?

  • if they had got the chance they shoud have done a muppet show version

  • no, we would have done something stupid like destroy a good BBC show . . . oh, wait we already did that.

  • I just didnt get the US version , but then I am English lol....

  • Comment removed

  • Does anyone remember the pc mcgarry thing?

  • Number 452???

  • Love it I couldn't stop laughing!

  • Excellent, pure scoobefied.

  • well placed together

    the funniest!!

    Bitches be warned lol.

    nice on jj too!!

  • Is Sam Tyler coming back in the A2A finale? That gypsy woman did say "You will be replaced by a Tyler".

  • Not sure about that, I guess we'll have to wait and see!

  • Did Sam marry Annie? If so she could be replaced by Annie, for she'd be a Tyler. They didn't say what happened to her, did they?

  • In last weeks A2A, it is revealed that sam did marry annie, but is now assumed dead.

  • @DarkAngel182 I hope he does, he rocks my socks :L

  • @DarkAngel182 Answer: No, he wasn't.

  • no...he's dead...he died in a jewelery blag!! anyway weh nthe woman said tyler, she ment ray...tyler was his name in the masons

  • That is true, but wasn't Sam's body not discovered and they assumed he was dead? He may have escaped the car he was driving. It is a Sci-Fi, so anything can happen!

  • no he didnt, it says in A2A that his car drove of a bridge into a lake and his body was never found

  • I think Ray is going to do a "Judas".

  • I think it's going to be either Chris or Viv.

  • That was a great guess...you were right. :)

You've got to have some sympathy for him though...he didn't know he was going to get anyone killed, and he wanted to give Shaz a great wedding.

  • Yeah, oh, I was feeling so bad for him, I mean, it was still a shocker that he did it, even though he is essentially the weaker one of the team. :(

  • I was so sure it was going to be Viv...after we all saw how much the team respected him on his birthday in the same episode.

Then again...I thought that creepy police officer that has been stalking Alex throughout this series was going to be Sam...can't believe this guy shot himself though.

  • i know can't wait till next week poor chris

  • Haha lol love LOM :-D x

  • "Is he kicking in a nonse?" LOL!

  • see u cant get that kind of humor here in the states. we should never of made our own version. just because the office did so good in america does not mean that every BBC show is going to do the same.

  • But you made "Friends" so it's all good :D

  • i agree. still doesnt mean we should take over other countries shows

  • I agree Ashes to Ashes isn't AS good as life on Mars, but I do enjoy Ashes to Ashes, it's a shame that Sam Tyler has died in both "Realities" though.

  • Aha well Sam was *presumed* dead in Ashes to Ashes, his body was never found... :-D

  • This is a cracking trailer. I agree too that Ashes to Ashes is not a patch on Life on Mars . This trailer is better acted in a minute than the whole of Ashes to Ashes series one and as for the new series well?? It's dire.

  • I think you're being a bit harsh on "Ashes to Ashes", sure its no "Life on Mars" but I'm quite enjoying it (though not as much as the original).

  • ah this is missing in ashes, they should have just finished it at life on mars

  • funny as hell, best show ever

  • i love the bit after that:

"i'm only going to say this once...stay OUT OF CAMBERWICK GREEN!!!" XDD

  • That was the best series that ever existed.

  • bloody brill. remeber that when it was 1st aired. then watchin it in blu ray made me laugh my head of again

  • Best opening sequence, ever. I want a Camberwick!Sam doll!

  • Gene Hunt was Barney Mcgrews cousin off Trumpton.I met Barney while visiting my nan in a care home in Barnsley. He says the wages they got then for the series were fucking appaling.

  • I love it at 0:51 where Gene hammers the bin lid into that bloke's face!!! lmao

  • Very funny

  • Bloody excellent! "... is he kicking in a nonce?" Ha ha ha ha. they should make a series out of that.

  • they have.

it's called life on mars :D

  • he has the weirdest tv in the world!

  • For anyone who has played Final Fantasy VII doesn't Gene Hunt look just like Palmer?

  • When they showed the series on BBC America they didn't include this - I wonder if they thought US viewers wouldn't get it and decided to hack it out.

  • Probably got butchered for ads. It was also cut on TV One in New Zealand—even when it was repeated this year at midnight. Like there's a lot of ads at midnight!

  • Surely this is funny even if you've never seen camberwick green/trumpton etc.. The way he looks so happy as he kicks the guy, brilliant!

  • And how they both wave so cheerily. *laughs*

  • Life on Mars, I love that series. I've got a replica of Sam's police ID from the show in my office it always draws attention.

  • lolol. those fashions on the show are also cool. but that could just be the actors making it cool.

  • is he kicking in a nonce?

    LOLLL :p

  • Brilliant! Basil Brush flash back

  • That's from Life on mars season 2

  • haha genius! I was thinkgni this was a proper high quality mash up

    but then i twigged ;)

    D'oh!

  • Best ever intro I've seen on tele.

  • WHY NBC WHY? damn you american telivision, ruining good shows from across the waters.

  • yeah ive been following it and i still like the brits better. it is hard to like the american sam and every time i see the american gene i think its mr orange

  • sorry, i meant mr white

  • Then why not make a brand new series.

    Or just send thisone?

  • The British series was shown on BBC America. Yanks won't accept British TV series on prime time television, whereas we'll watch just about any old US show on British TV. Chalk it up to either the greater open-mindedness of the British or a complete lack of discrimination. From what I can gather the Yanks don't get the Brit sense of humour and/or they can't understand our accents.

  • I feel your pain

I'm from the US, and My Country has a closed minded tasted in entertainment

I'm concerned as to why they shun away such great programs like The Raccoons and The Wombles in favor of garbage like South Park and Family Guy

Note: The Wombles did come to the US in the Summer of 1974 as a frequent part of Captain Kangaroo, sadly their band counterpart did poorly here. Rolling Stone gave the record "Remember You're A Womble" 2 stars, 2 FUCKING STARS!. WTF!

  • So? America just wasn't ready for another costumed children's band back then.

  • hey kitsuneraner ..... a close friend said this has'nt gone down too well in the States - guessl they don't have our sense of humour or such BRILLIANT actors

  • They've done a pretty good job - perhaps too good a job in a way because the budget is obviously much greater for the Yank version. They re-shot the entire first series of the American version becasue it wasn't working properly. I'm not sure how popular it is. They have some class actors in it, and the cars and clothes are ace. The Yank humour is different, but the grittiness is very much the same and the violence is even harsher, IMHO.

  • You know that the Us Life On Mars was so bad they showed our series 2

  • They actually showed the british second season before ours premiered.

  • Is Gene Hunt kicking you in the nuts?

    Sam Points

Gene stops beating up guy to give a little wave

    Best part

  • What he says is "Is he kicking in a NONCE?" (IE a child abuser). That was the focus of this episode, bringing an abuser to justice.

  • It tends to be used more for molesters than for abusers. Not that the two can't go hand in hand.

  • Is there a difference?

  • Abuse could suggest violence, not just sexual.

  • work of a genius......

  • The Master =D

    lol

  • I fell of the couch watching this the first time. Ahhh I love Life on Mars.

  • Fantastic. Pure genius writing. The creators have a real eye and love for pop culture. Can't see myself watching the US version - looks a bit shite but it might mean more to Americans. Still, disco versus Bowie and Bolan? Not a chance. And all respect to Mr Meaney, but there's only one Gene Hunt!

  • I've heard that Harvey Keitel is actually going to be playing Gene in the US version now. Not sure how true it is though.

  • Actually you're right, heard that too, and some Irish actor playing Sam Tyler. Don't know why it's different from the pilot. Not convinced though - still only one Gene Genie.

  • And John Simm is very easy on the eye!

  • NO, it's another Irish actor called Colm Meaney the guy who played Chief O Brien on Star Trek Deep Space Nine!

  • Such a brilliant part of Life on Mars! I love how Gene waves half-way through beating up the guy, and then the guy also waves. Definitely one of the best moments in the entire show!

Ashes to Ashes is also an ace programme, but it just doesn't have that feeling and structure in Life on Mars. Plus Alex Drake is just too confident in herself, she knows what's happened, whereas Sam is completely confused about what's happened to him.

  • Great series !

I will watch at least the first episode

Colm Meaney is a good actor

  • Very funny I nearly wet myself laughing when I saw it first. Excellent series but strange ending ?

  • Just watched Life on Mars on box set, a bit behind! Best British drama ever Sam Tyler and the Gene Genie rock!!!x

  • luv this so much i puttin on my profile lol

  • This is one of the few true classic series

  • no weekend is complete without a good nonce kickin session

  • Did you know in fall there will be an American version of Life On Mars. Sam Tyler will be played by Jason O'Mara and Gene Hunt will be played by Colm Meaney. They are going to be LAPD. The story line is the same tho.

  • I'd heard something about it, but not about who was starring in it or anything.

If its got Cheif O'Brien in it I shall definately be watching it.

  • that's sounds almost wrong in a way...

  • HaHA.

I just love the way Gene looks up and starts waving halfway through beating up the guy!

  • And I love it that the nonce is waving too.

  • I just love this show!!! Its pure class!

  • is he kicking in a nonce?

lol, you have to love the way that is said...

  • I lawl'd.

  • lol i pmsl whan gene whacks the nonce with a bin lid

  • Probably my fav life on mars moment. Favourited.

  • 'Hello Sam'

    *waves*

    'How are you today?'

    *head in hands*

'oh dear. Is it Gene Hunt?'

    *nodds head*

'is he kicking in a nonce?'

    *points*

    gene- *waves*

    totally pmsl lol haha lmao

  • lol. That is exceedingly funny.

  • Brilliant stuff. Gene Hunt is hilarous!

  • I LOVE that so much, it's so funny ^_^

  • Bloody Quality!!

You gotta love gene Hunt!! :o)

  • OMG, John Simm looks proper fit at the end, when he's asleep :P

  • What scared me the most is my gran and grandad, recorded this and kept rewinding it they thought it was great.

I love how just after "Is he kicking in a nonce" both Gene and the nonce wave hehe

  • LOL The Gene Gunie is so bril

  • I think it is wonderful that they did a parody of a classic childrens TV show, " is he kicking a nonce" LMHO.

  • Well I don;t know if you've been watching the new series "Ashes to Ashes" but they had Zippy and George from rainbow on there during a dream sequence, complete with voices by Roy Skelton himself!

  • I haven't been watching the sequel, but I bet it was quite funny though. Although Rainbow was very camp it was educational and its a pity that children don't have that today-they don't even have the old Channel4 "Stop Look listen" adverts either which I think is a real sad thing.

  • hilarious ... is he kicking in a nonse

  • One of the best parts of the season XD.

  • Legendary - was looking for this. Next step Mr Ben versus Sexy Beast.

  • I'm only going to say this once: Stay out of Camberwick Green!!!

  • That is a touch of genius! Love the show.

  • very good. they shouldve got Brian cant to narrate though

  • Brilliant, I just watched this now on vid and I had to check if it was on youtube. wot a great show life on mars is lol!

  • This cracks me up every time. Does anyone know who the narrator is?
