I had this melody in my head for the longest! Don't know how I remember this; I was only like 2 LOL! And like others, I kept thinking it was from Troop. Glad i'm no longer stumped =)
I was like 11 when this came out, I remember my uncle always playing this. I was like unk what you singing, he was like you will understand one day. Now I'm on it. Favorite part 4:10 to 4:25.
Dang, I had to be in elementary/middle school when this song was out. Man, this is taking me back, used to love to hear this on the radio, or seeing people getting their boogie on to it when I watched Soul Train back then (when I wasn't dancing with them). Loved this song back then, and still love it:)
Chuckii opened for Janet Jackson's Rythym Nation Tour when I saw him.. this was his hit. Later came out with "Games", another decent jam. He's still around producing music.. it'd be nice to see him come out with another hit for himself.
I want to know who out there has a similar mix tape with all the following songs on it: "This time I know it's real" by Donna Summer, "No more rhyme" by Debbie Gibson, "On our own" by Bobby Brown, "Coldhearted" by Paula Abdul, "Turned Away" by Chucki Booker, "Secret Rendezvous" by Karyn White, "Don't wanna lose you" by Gloria Estefan, "Shower me with your love" by Surface, "I like it" by Dino. Notice the variety you could record from the radio back then: R&B, pop, adult contemp all together
Where is Mr. Booker lately? I loved his jams, especially this one! I think he's a music conductor and producer. I saw him conducting the orchestra on a couple of award shows.
p4soul, I know u love Chuckii and Troop. I really loved this track. And to other users, Chuckii did produce some of Troop's tracks. New Jack Swing era simply the best R+B music around..today's R+B is a pile of shite compared to the 80s and 90s
@p4soul I wish someone would post Chuckii Booker's other classic on YT from this album, the uptempo classic, 'Touch'. It was the best track on this album. PLEASE, SOMEONE POST THE TRACK 'TOUCH' ON YOUTUBE!!!!!!!!!!!
@dicktrickslick Wow! I remember playing this song to death on my high school prom night! I also saw Chuckii open up for Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation tour in Chicago and I remember him mentioning that he produced several of Troops biggest songs. A very talented cat!
haha! i remember taping this in high school on vhs along with heavy dee and all the new jack swing boyz and hammer! haha! its the shit tho, mariah carrey with someday? remember that?
This right is a classic, or at least it should be. This song was so hot, used to love this song back in the day. But, I was only a kid at the time. Still, this was a favorite of mine then, and I still love it! And, I really loved that guitar solo (also gotta give a thumbs up to his falsetto, and all the vocals, too). Feels so good to be hearing this again:)
@harrise007 I really miss this kind of music, Im with you, when I got married thats all I played at my reception old school R&B and we jammed all night

@precisethoughts Chuckii had originally written it for Troop. Thankfully, he was talked into keeping it and singing it for himself. The rest is history.
Flat Top Haircuts, 8-Ball Jackets, Super Nintindo's, Grafitied Clothes & Malcolm X Caps Were The Norm. God I Miss The Last Century. It Will Never Be Another One Like It. This Was The R&B Everyone Could Relate To.
Wow!!! It just doesn't get much better than that. Here was a time when if you were considered a producer you WERE just that and not just calling yourself one. You had to be on top of your game and that's exactly what Chuckii was...So inspiring yo!!!
this made me smile................I was never a big Chucky Booker fan but you can't help but think of good times when you hear Chuckies music! I didn't realize what an impact he really DID make for the 80's era.
THANK YOU PSOUL **thumbs up** this was his 1st hit..and I still have the video in my head...atlantic has the rights to it..and wont release it... but in it..you would see Chuckii..with a rat tail..and jamming...real talk..peace folks
That guitar break is still sick 20 years later!!!!! I wonder if Chuckii can find a great situation and put out another album independently like Jesse Johnson did with "Verbal Penetration"......
AHHHHHH!!!!! GOD BLESS YOU P4SOUL!!!!! I have been waiting for someone to post this on YouTube for soooo long....did this song have a vid? I'm so happy right now, thanks for posting.....this song had such a great beat and melody....very unique and brings back some great memories, thanks again
@backnthedaydawg I had forgot to mention that the bulk of my radio show interviews and the chuckii booker interview can be found on knyte77's page. So go to the video section for knyte77 and type in my name (Jarrell Mason) in the search box.
@j85 Ok, I found it. And Sylvia Rhone was right. The song wouldn't have had the same feel with Troop's two high pitch tenors singing the lead vocals. Chuckii's baritone gives it a deeper gravity. Sad but still hopeful. . . .
Great song and on youtube I have interviews that I have done with Chuckii Booker along with Allen,Steve, and Jon Jon of Troop. Chuckii has a unique story about Turned Away so go to my youtube page and check it out.

One of the coolest cuts back in the summer of 1989.
That was one hot summer but this group and LL Cool J and a host of others kept the music chilled and flowing.
Man...those were the days when we lived, loved, and spread joy as much as we could, to all we knew.
Good clean fun. Wonderful.....!!!!
