It dissapointed me: One of the bigger territories on the planet, with many different landscapes and cultures and one of the bigger food producers as well, but you showed just a tiny part: The wines are between the best of the world and you say nothing, you presented Argentina based on a few preconcepts, you producers didn't do their best job on this matter, it seems clearly when you wasted such a long time showing a slum or 2 crazy gauchos in Patagonia, you didn't show much imagination neither.
A little bit of Rome and they show the national congress which it's inspired in the German Reichstag but in a much bigger scale and luxury. Why do someone would travel somewhere to go to a poor neighborhood when in fact slums in that country are small and there are just a few? and by the way, slums in Argentina, Chile and Uruguay looks pretty much like any ghetto in the US.
he does a good job pointing out argentine culture. i lived in argentina and both of my parent were born there. la picada, mortadela, matambre, asado, and pasta are main argentine dishes. it is very heavily influenced by italian and spanish culture. - just as my last name Boccelli is a perfect example of an italian-argentine.
The fisrt time I came to Bs As I asked what the typicall food was and they tell me asado, pasta and pizza and I was so confused 'casuse pasta and pizza are italian and asado you find everywhere (althought they prepared it different) The only typicall food I found was the Locro. Porteños has lost they identity, they're inmigrants' sons and inmigrant's culture eat the local one. Only porteños I don't mean all the country.
If you've been to Argentina, this episode totally sucks. Lots about meat eating but none looks pleasant -unrefrigerated pig heads etc. He visits a town with heavy Swiss influence & questions their sense of identity (like visiting Chinatown or Little Italy in the US & wondering if Americans know who they are). The part with the rock group & the gliders is boring & the part with the gauchos makes them look like jerks. The Chile epi made u want to visit. This one doesn't do the same for Argentina.
@quenuca You're right, it's hard to fit this great country into 42 minutes of footage, but the thing that makes No Reservations unique is that it's always Bourdain's take on the destination, not Lonely Planet's. He's done episodes on LA and Argentina, both places that I've lived in and know very well and I have to say that he finds interesting angles for both while not necessarily digging deep enough. He tells a story every time and sometimes he misses the mark, but at least it's not cliche :)
@kumquatsta Great...The USA and Cuba need to overcome their differences and do away with this rediculous embargo. 50 years and this crap is still going on. I appreciate you uploading these videos. May the world become a better place to live because of them. Viva la Revolucion!
@diegomanya17 I am American, but from what I have read, it is ALMOST certainly Argentine in origin. The first breakout tango was El Choclo which premiered in Buenos Aires by the Argentina Villoldo in 1903.
That being said Uruguay contributed to it. But even Gardel, a good case can be made that he was born in France.
And the best tango is not La Cumparsita (Uruguayan) but rather Argentine Piazzola's Libertango. It is Argentine.
Uruguay NO EXISTE.
At 13:40 - Tell me, would you eat that pig. I am a New Yorker, who has eaten scary stuff, but I would be afraid of food poisoning with that street chef.
hey man no guts no glory, we're all foodies right? as a cook, i don't walk in and ask for a bloody rare steak with a half done tater. i tell the waiter to gimme what they do best. don't you?

In his shows, Bourdain shows a real love for pigs.
To me, pork is an inferior meat. I cannot understand why he emphasizes it so much.
I have tried pork, but most times, I find it too fatty.

@streetplayercentral Personal preference, man! Personal preference!
My dad loves pork. I like it okay, but I prefer chicken. My dad hates chicken though. Says it tastes like bird poo.
It's all personal preference!
