ALL schools, colleges, and universities in the united states are funded, sponsored, accredited, and regulated by government at local, state, and federal levels. It's just those 'public' (100% government owned and operated) are more so. Regarding just the cash flow of 'private' ones, they recieve tax money through government, mostly through government grants and government backed loans (student, as well as a variety of other types).
