It makes me laugh when people think they need more than 4GB of RAM for games :) the only reason you would need more is for HD video encoding. That is all.
@undeadkillers Tough, that depends on the game, lately i upgraded from 3gb to 6gb, i didn't really expect any performance difference at all, but it definitely gave me 10 to 15 fps more!, the game was Battlefield 3 by the way
@Cqub3 Considering that your system is x64 then of course 3GBs is quite low. Since RAM has been its lowest cost/per GB 8GB is recommended. I currently have 9GB and use 2 VMs sometimes with no problems.
@Cqub3 The only processor that depends on RAM is AMD APUs. Since it's a CPU and a GPU on a same die, the GPU uses the systems RAM and there's been tests on AMDs APU showing that the frequency of the RAM affects FPS. RAM running at frequencies 1066 and 1333 will have no effect on computers with dedicated GPU.
I'm admitting that I was wrong but not completely. :)
In this game's case, the processor's killing the frame rate... GTA IV asks for a quad-core cpu for better performance, the card is really good, but the processor is creating a bottleneck. Get a quead-core cpu when you hace the chance, an i3 would be ok if you don't want to spend a lot of money. (i3 and i5 are likely the same except for "turbo-boost"). and you'll get more FPS.
Yea.. your lagging quite a bit there, You should buy a more beefier power supply, maybe around 700 - 750 Watt, I think what its doing is underclocking your GPU for the video card you have you shouldn't be getting that much lag. Also should check into your catalyst drivers I know sometimes it'll set the default clock at 400 even when your in a game.. should check into that maybe use MSI Afterburner to check.
@PontiacMan86 Dude, hes lagging because his processor isn't the fastest. And i have HD 6850 and i7 2600k 3.4ghz and 460 Watt power supply. GTA iv runs with very high settings (Expect shadow detail because it kills the fps, it was set on high.) with 45-60 fps. Its not the power supply, its the processor.
@NetherLinkOnline In most cases yes that is true, but when it come to games the most important piece of hardware is the graphics card.
I have a q8300, pretty decent cpu but i have also a nvidia gt120 which is nvidia's low end parts and with medium settings i have the same fps (~30), if i had his 6850 i would get around 60+ fps.
In my opinion for games you need a well balanced computer so that the components don't suffer from bottleneck like in this case.
@YourComputerExpert Not really. Core 2 Quads still hold their own by todays standards, mine never goes over 70% while gaming... so no, i7 isn't the way to go, if you have LGA775, pick up a Q9450 for like $100. if you have an AM3 board that is compatible with Bulldozer, get that, if you have a pentium 4 or a core 2 duo, thats the time to think about going i7.
@gabrocki He said the AMD was better then the i7 best Processor. I said: "Haha, that made me laugh, the i7 is the way to go."
Don't think you know things better then others if you don't know what you're talking about. But no problem because you are a dumb kid and you can't help it. GO watch the AnnoyingFaggot.
@YourComputerExpert he never stated it was better, he only said "get an AM3 mobo and a Phenom II x4" He's got a point there, it's a lot cheaper setup.
The intels are faster, true. NO ONE SAID THEY ARE NOT. For example, I'm getting an i3 2100 (which is stronger than a Phenom II x4 955 and the TDP is lower!) but apparently, you have serious issues with reading and understanding others. So think twice who and when you call someone a "dumb kid"
Quote: "He said the AMD was better then the i7 best Processor"
He never did, but you fail to recognize that. He only said get an AM3 mobo and a Phenom II x4 CPU... He never said it was better than an i7. Also, saying "i7 is the way to go" is kinda stupid. i5 is more than enough for gaming (Especially Sandy Bridge ones).
4 cores thats cool i have a 6 core with 3 all over clocked i almost have 5 ghz and i also have 8 gigs of ram and 600 watts and a xfx radeon 6850 thats over clocked and guess what your pc look like a 8 bit snes game to me but you wouldnt know what that is would you?
@xlaleclx not really because the six cores can handle more calculations then a quad core, even if you think that some apps are not enabled to run on six core, well now they do after an update ¬¬
@mrasidhu Games aren't meant to be ran on a six core processor, they will perform about on par with a quad core. In doing encoding and other CPU intensive tasks 6 cores will help but not in gaming. I doubt games will ever really support 6 cores, it was just AMDs crappy little processor they put out between 4 and 8 cores.
