The ammo drops correspond to which weapons you currently have with you, a feature I fell in love with. Screw this RE stuff of handing me ammo for something I don't use.

The rates of x ammo drops depend on the weapons carried, how upgraded a particular carried weapon is, and possibly other factors like which one Issac has out at a given time.

Very adaptive game mechanic. Adaptive, instead of demanding.

Tru he never gets ammo for the ripper or flamethrower but thats because they arn't rele supposed to be used at this point. Well my own opinion on three this weapons:

Plasma Cutter - easiest and most universal weapon.

Pulse Rifle - same as above but do require extensive upgrading. But upgrades give you more boost than in case of Cutter. +1 bonus damage against +2 while in first case you shoot volley.

Line Gun - very good penetrating power and wide range of slicing on the way. After only one upgrade deals quickly with jumpy bastards and babies. Mines are powerful but slow. But no vertical fire. Which is needed often.

Line gun is not that versatile. Its almost useless against enemies on side walls. Only mines work and they take way too much time to explode. In all line gun is a good gun, but still Plasma Cutter or Pulse Rifle are easier to handle in overall.
