I am so sorry Nancy, Its Jim and Melissa Lewis. Melissa worked with her. We would try and visit her every once in a while. I thought about it after I commented that my name wouldnt show up, sorry. I am surprised she let you video her. I always had to be sneaky about it... Hope all is well with you. Take care and God Bless
@ctfshlvr Oh! Yes...I remember you both and how much mom enjoyed your visits :) And yes...I did have to be kinda sneaky about filming mom. She wasn't one for the limelight you know! We miss her so very much. It's wonderful to have her on YouTube like this. Stop by often and listen to these little tunes I have posted. Mom is no doubt floating on a cloud, playing for the angels, and keeping track of her YouTube video hits! :)
@ctfshlvr Not sure who you are! But thank you for the nice comment. We miss mom so much. She truly was one of a kind. I have her electronic piano at my home now and can hear her play with more than 100 songs she recorded over the years. It's like she is here with me...
I Like this style and a great instrument too! I can't play like that ..I really can't. They're lucky to have your mom in heaven, playing together with the other great Hammond organ players
@HammondDomein Thank you!!! I will pass on your wonderful comments to my mom as I "talk to her" every single night. In the last year or so mom was alive, it was always a thrill for her to know people on YouTube were watching her videos. A huge thrill! And I know in Heaven..she is glowing with nice comments like yours. Thanks again!!
@nancy20507 My Dad has always LOVED his Hammond B3. I'm happy to see others that see the greatness of this instrument. Your Mom plays great! You can tell that she's played this "once or twice" :} God bless her.
I keep thinking one of these days I'll wake up from a bad dream and have you here with me again. I miss you so much gram. Watching these videos is too hard for me right now. The hospital lobby is quiet this season without you there playing.
I simply had to sign in to listen to my dear sweet friend play that Hammond B3! Have her in my thoughts and prayers this morning. What a wonderful talent and a beautiful person. I have been privileged to be her friend and am praying that she will be well again.
@MVanthoor Hello... I know you admired my mom and her musical talents on the Hammond B3. I thought I would let you know that my mom passed away last Monday Nov 15. She is peaceful now and playing in heaven I'm sure. Mom will be missed so much.
@nancy20507: Yes, I did admire her. This is a behemoth of an instrument to play and I am pleased to know that she could keep it up to almost the very last minute.
I would like to wish you a lot of strength overcoming the loss.
@nancy20507 If you have the room, hang on to the organ. The money the B3 will make you will be spent quickly enough leaving you with nothing. The joy of playing it will last a lifetime.
And even more importantly: it's not just any B3. It's your mom's B3 that she enjoyed for a very, very long time.
Learning to play is easy and will take you only half a year, one at most. Then, you just need to practice and go from easy to the more difficult songs gradually.
Stumbled upon this again while cruising trhough youtube for some old stuff played on the Hammond. Still epic. Hope your mom's still in good health and playing. Upload something again :)
@MVanthoor She is still playing but getting a little weaker these days. :( I recorded her again in August but the quality of the video is not very good! I might try them anyway! Stayed tune...and thanks again for your kindness!
@Brokenmind6839 Awwww! I bet she would LOVE to do that!! :) Mom has actually played for many church functions, parties and even at the local medical clinic at Xmas. She is very energetic and brings smiles when she plays! Thanks so much for the offer!!!
Hey!! your Mom took me right back to Tommy Dorsey and his Orchestra, when I heard that played by their great band. Excellent rendition, and PLAYED, not using automatic rhythms to help out. She did a great job, thanks for sharing. (from another big band fan) BTW, in reading the comments on your Mom's age, please check out "Rosa Rio, on the Tampa Theatre organ", she was still playing at 103 years old !!
@patrol681 Thanks for your wonderful comment! I read it to my mom and she gets so THRILLED when someone leaves a comment and especially when it's so complimentary :) Mom's music is what keeps her going...truly it is a miracle medicine for her. I hope she can play as long as Rosa Rio!!
@alhajem Thanks! She is quite a woman indeed! Mom is always so excited to know that someone liked her playing :) Check back for more videos later this summer!
As I have switched my Roland organ for a real Hammond (couldn't resist... hehe), I've been browsing some video's and stumbled upon this one again. I still find it remarkable :)
In one of the other movies was said that you'd post some more of you mom's playing. Did you get some additional recordings?
@MVanthoor Thank you so much! You made my day! Actually, I will hopefully be posting more videos of mom in the next couple weeks. :) Mom is turning 91 in April and still plays her Hammond as therapy and pleasure. Please check back in the near future. Thanks again..!!!
I am Nancy's sister and I will be with mom in Feb. I will get some more of her wonderful playing for Nancy to post on youtube. I will try for something with more voooroooom
Nancy, please say hi to your mom and tell her that she plays absolutely beautifully and that she doesn´t look her age at all! Wow! What an amazing lady! Hope you all had great holidays.
5 stars from Germany and a happy new Boogie-Woogie-year! :-)
I just called mom and relayed your msgs. She is so excited about this! :) Anyway, her's is definitely a B3 organ with 2 Leslie speakers. She wanted me to make sure you knew that for some reason! haha! Thanks again!
Wanted to make sure I knew it's a B3? Oh, I know why :) Although the C3 is the exact same organ in a different case, the B3 is by far the most famous of the two. It makes extra fun to play a wildly famous organ :) (Wunderlich did play the C3, though.)
And... 2 Leslies? As if having a B3 and a Leslie isn't enough, just blow off the roof! (And that of the neighbours too :P) I wouldn't be surprised at all if they where one of the two most famous types, Leslie 122 or 147 ;)
Mom DOES blow the neighbor's roof off! haha! She can really get rockin sometimes! She does have 2 Leslie 122 speakers. Big speakers too. If you get a chance, listen to her on the piano also. I have a couple videos of her "accompanying herself". :)
@nancy20507 My Dad is the same, he wants everyone to know that it's a B3 with Leslie, and NOTHING else. As far as he's concerned (and many others) there IS nothing else... There's Hammond B3 and "the rest of'em"
This woman saw the introduction of the B3, while I wasn't even born when it went out of production. Still, we both love "the" Hammond-sound. Remakrable.
Nancy, I wish your Mom may have some more very nice and healthy years ahead of her to keep enjoying this awesome instrument.
About your talent: you can do without to have fun. Just sit at the organ and riff along, make up some melodies. You'll be amazed what you can do.
(I use a B3-simulator, the B4 soft-synth, connected to a Roland organ.)
I really appreciate your nice comments and will pass them along to mom. She just asked about whether anyone watches her video (rather embarrassed actually) and gets so tickled when I tell her about comments. :) You made my day!!
Maybe it's not by the millions, but people are watching, allright. Some, I among them, appreciate and respect older people who have the skill to enjoy such an instrument.
If she doesn't know it already, find some of Klaus Wunderlich's old Hammond music, from the 60's and 70's for her. MikeFox1974 posted some on youtube.
BTW: is it a B3 or C3? A B3 has legs/posts, a C3 has a closed casing. For the rest, it is the same organ.
I have tried to reply directly to you but must be doing something wrong! Please see my post at the top in response to your latest comments. Thanks much!!!! :)
it's a B3.. the it's the only hammon that has the lid like that on the top.. lol and she did a wonderful job i hope i still have that kinda spunk on the organ when i am 90 y/o lol
Thank you so much! Mom really is something and I only wish I had gotten some of her talent. But...I didn't! She will really appreciate your nice comment :)
