The Senators that did not want it our corrupt. Health care should not just be for the rich who can afford private health care. Next year, or the year after they need to pass the public option, and inportation of cheap drugs from Canada.
I'm afraid next year it will be even more difficult. We have mid-term elections in 2010! Republicans are most likely going to pick up some extra seats- and you already know their plan for everything: "NO!"
Sounds like the kid that is ashamed he likes school so he says his parents force him. Then you ask the parents they say Johnny does it without command.
NO NO NO you do not need 60 . If you have GUTS to stand up for what is right you need a MAJORITY and let the nay sayers and those on the Take from endless money pit show themselves. This is BULLSHIT Mr Senator
You are all full of BS and are scared to stand up for what is right
I am wondering if this Health Care Bill is a deversion from the Bush Wars.
And why isn't Bush and Cheney doing jail time? Why???? They are war criminals, yet no one is even talking about them being prosecuted, especially Obama...Why, Why, Why????
The majority will become the minority in 2010; like it always does when they have the W.H. Next, we get the republiCONS! You can blame HOPE and CHANGE for that.
@bigc028282 I always thought the Liberals, which I am, thought things through & did cry about things that simply did not make sense like TEA BAGGERS do...However, I have been proven wrong! The Public Option does not have the votes, PERIOD! Most of the senators including President Obama knew this going in! You can't change the facts & simply crying about it won't help!
Wrong. The public option DOES have the votes. All you need is a simple majority. The reason Obama and Reid wanted 60 votes is because they lack the political BALLS to push through legislation with a sledgehammer.
@wnnw98 You obviously do not understand the "Reconciliation Process" and the ramifications it would have had on the overall bill. If you do then you are so blinded by ideiology that you would be willing to trash 90+% of the bill for 10%.
One more thing, THINK LONGTERM! There is nothing that says this bill will not set in motion the process of showing WHY WE NEED A PUBLIC OPTION! THINK! Seriously, we are headed in the right direction you can't get everything you want at once!!
I understand reconciliation and the ramifications it brings to the political process. But here we are, almost 7 years after the Iraq war, and 9 years after the Afghan war, and how many Democrats are arguing with the Republicans over reconciliation during the Bush the Second administration?
As for long-term goals concerning health care, I hope you are right and that we are headed in the right direction. However, all signs point to a boondoggle for the insurance and pharma corporations.
@bigc028282 America is coming off a hang over of 30 yrs of Conservative Rule. The entire mentality of the US people has to be changed and this can't happen over night! Many Americans think the government is bad, period! It is up to us to show it is not and this will not happen just because Obama got elected HE IS NOT A GOD! It is Liberals fault for thinking all Obama has to do is say something and it will happen! THINK!
The republicons are getting the house back in 2010. BET??
Just let me call BlueCross in the next state for coverage. It will be better than these crap bills. That's "long term". I would feel better if O would stop acting like he works for corporations. Maybe then we the people can trust. No more of this HOPE in one hand, BUSH in the other.
I say Blue dogs will loose to republicans, but the others? Maybe Reid, Pelosi, and Hoyer will loose too?? I unfortunately would like to see concentrated efforts to remove Clinton, Kerry, just all the old bloods the ones running the show, if you know what I mean.
The GOP gaining control of the House will come down to how well the economy is doing...Not health care.
The fact remains Obama can't change America overnight. It is your fault for thinking he can & not understanding the American Legislative process. You need votes to pass bills & Obama can't genearate votes out of thin air! The bill we get is the only bill that will pass, if it does! To think Obama could have gotten anything else through congress is simply absurd! THINK!
The way for the economy to get better, more jobs, the country has to get the gross demestic product up. I have a solution. Beginning 2010 borrow 980 billion from China selling bonds. March of 2010 we water down free trade agreement with China, other Asian countrys, India. Products that retail for 30 dollars or less we leave alone. Products that retail for over 30 dollars we put high tariffs on them to get them, made here again. Gain of hundreds of thosands in jobs. With that Demacrats will win.
Another souce of discontent is the fact, State and local governments, Mass transit systems are dealing with deficits as a result of poor economy. With unused stimulus funds, use 60 percent to cover those deficits for next 2 years. Transit riders are tired of more fare hikes, threats of service decreases. That is a big source of inflation. Remaining 40 percent for road and bridge projects, mass transit expansion projects such as 2nd avenue Subway, Lirr east side access. More subway lines built
You hope and change morons make me laugh. Keep denying that the insurance industry didn't win in this. THEY WROTE THE BILLS DUMMIES! Your buddies were bought, And you were sold like slaves. How's it feel?
Throughout the Senate portion, a very small number (?) of Republicans like Voinovich of Ohio, who plans to retire, who toed the party line in preference to undercutting "Blue Dog" Democrat holdouts and Independents. That's just dumb and ~may~ lose Republicans those seats.
VOTE EM ALL OUT IN 2010.

There are a lot of progressives who will not be voting for Obama in 2012 if he keeps this up.
And there will be a lot of conservatives who will be voting for the Republican candidate because he (or she) is not Obama.
Put those two together and it doesn't look good for Obama, or the Democrats, in the next couple of elections.

Obama is not a leader. Obama is an administrator. He does not fight for his "priorities".

Richard, Clinton tried to "strong arm" the last health care bill and we see how that worked out.
I think leaving congress to their own devices is a good strategy but lets see how it plays out.
