There are a lot of progressives who will not be voting for Obama in 2012 if he keeps this up.

And there will be a lot of conservatives who will be voting for the Republican candidate because he (or she) is not Obama.

Put those two together and it doesn't look good for Obama, or the Democrats, in the next couple of elections.

Wrong. The public option DOES have the votes. All you need is a simple majority. The reason Obama and Reid wanted 60 votes is because they lack the political BALLS to push through legislation with a sledgehammer.

I understand reconciliation and the ramifications it brings to the political process. But here we are, almost 7 years after the Iraq war, and 9 years after the Afghan war, and how many Democrats are arguing with the Republicans over reconciliation during the Bush the Second administration?

As for long-term goals concerning health care, I hope you are right and that we are headed in the right direction. However, all signs point to a boondoggle for the insurance and pharma corporations.

The way for the economy to get better, more jobs, the country has to get the gross demestic product up. I have a solution. Beginning 2010 borrow 980 billion from China selling bonds. March of 2010 we water down free trade agreement with China, other Asian countrys, India. Products that retail for 30 dollars or less we leave alone. Products that retail for over 30 dollars we put high tariffs on them to get them, made here again. Gain of hundreds of thosands in jobs. With that Demacrats will win.

Another souce of discontent is the fact, State and local governments, Mass transit systems are dealing with deficits as a result of poor economy. With unused stimulus funds, use 60 percent to cover those deficits for next 2 years. Transit riders are tired of more fare hikes, threats of service decreases. That is a big source of inflation. Remaining 40 percent for road and bridge projects, mass transit expansion projects such as 2nd avenue Subway, Lirr east side access. More subway lines built

Throughout the Senate portion, a very small number (?) of Republicans like Voinovich of Ohio, who plans to retire, who toed the party line in preference to undercutting "Blue Dog" Democrat holdouts and Independents. That's just dumb and ~may~ lose Republicans those seats.
