  • Swanky-chic stuff that ST was! So on par w/ 007 caliber formidable style and sly wit. I believe The Equalizer was akin to both genres as well!

  • Roger Moore <3 for ever the best!!!!!

  • haha we are saints nikka we use that in 1959 nikka we started to use that gang sigh nikka

  • Perfect track.

    Thank you for posting.

  • i loved this , Return of the Saint (1978) was amazing also

  • Roger Moore is THE SAINT!

Timothy Dalton is JAMES BOND! ;)

  • val kilmer sells oranges from a seeside truck in la these days

  • @vania1013 : It's better for some people to never get rich. We all know of the starving actor who made good then went off the deep end, either into booze or drugs or some weird crap.

It takes a special person who can handle fame and fortune. Me? I prefer my anonymity. Didn't James Garner once say that he'd give it all back if he could get his anonymity back?

  • @vania1013 Really?!!!!

  • a O over hes head

  • Doo doo doo doo doo dooooooooo...

  • in the 30's or 40's Hollywood made several "Saint" films w/ George Saunders, his style of charactor was more wreakless similar to Mel Gibson in those Leathel Weapon films

  • Monty Python spoofed this once...they called their version 'The Bishop.'

  • I love how he just used his fists and his cunning in this not like pussy James Bond using a gun ;D

  • Roger Moore earned in my spot number one actor with this show.

  • This man ended the whole of the Cold War by raising just one eyebrow

  • Love this show!

  • Back when suave MEANT sonething. Nowadays, there's no standard to work for, eh?

  • I remember watching the Saint on WOR channel 9 in NYC when I was kid. This was around the early 70's--the theme and the "stickman" used to scare the daylights out of me. :)

  • DID U KNOW THEY MADE A GANG OUT OF THIS? ITZ CALLED ALMIGHTY SAINTS THERE IN CHICAGO GOES WAY BACK TO THE 1959'S ALL THE WAY UP TILL NOW THERE STILL ALIVE, BIG IN NUMBERS, & WELL KNOWWN....TYPE UP ALMIGHTY SAINTS

  • This is my favourite of the Intro's

  • Always loved it when Roger looked up at the halo.

  • roger moore looks so badass yet suave at the same time.

  • roger moore looks so badass but suave at the same time

  • R.M. as The Saint was COOL! A clown as Bond!

  • A very unique theme song. It brings back wonderful memories of all those great shows, and themes, of the 60's.

  • really liked Moore as the Saint. He was a great detective. He could knock out the bad guys pretty good too when he had too.

  • This version of The Saint is the shite. It was standard late night viewing during my youth. Roger Moore was not only my Simon Templar, he was my James Bond. I wasn't born when Connery was Bond, although I eventually liked his Bond, as well.

But, then again, I'm a big Bond fan. The only Bond movies I don't like are "On Her Majesty Secret Service"(Lazenby), The Dalton movies, "The World Is Not Enough" (Bronson) and "Quantum of Solace"(Craig). I'm finding Daniel Craig hard to like.

  • @RealVerdad :

like your name you have hit on the 'real truth'.. Daniel Craig is too much of a wimp...to be a good bond. He's trying to be a metrosexual weenie as Bond instead of how Connery and Moore did Bond.

  • Long live Vincent Price

  • Show was 1,000,000x better than the film with Val Kilmer. No one can EVER replace Roger Moore

  • this is true great series

  • No disrespect, I thought Vincent Price was my Saint.

  • @aroused male A read in Moore`s autobiography that when Kilmer bumped into Moore shortly after the film version of `The Saint` was released, he admitted as much by saying to Moore, " sorry about that, i think we cock-it up", to which Moore replied, "yes, i think you did".

  • @arousedmole - I agree - Let's see a remake with maybe Clive Owen as the Saint? Don't hate me...

  • @arousedmole nobody said they could, legend indeed, roger moore was born for this role,,

  • @arousedmole what about Vincent Price?

  • @arousedmole I TOTALLY AGREE, he is perfect for the role!!

  • Target!

  • I have the hole series

  • does anyone know where i can download this song as an mp3

  • I really want it too!

  • Moore was Fleming's original choice as Bond, but because of this show and his inability to break his contract, Connery was cast.

  • Urban myth, Flemings original choice was David Niven and Fleming didn't have much of input in the film versions.

  • David Niven turn James Bond role down in 1962 later did a spoof of James Bond Casino Royal.

Niven was the only James Bond actor mentioned by name in the text of Fleming's novels. In On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Bond visits an exclusive ski resort in Switzerland where he is told that David Niven is a frequent visitor and in You Only Live Twice, David Niven is referred to as the only real gentleman in Hollywood.

  • @Clutzsilla1223 Sean Connery was the original best bond but Roger Moore was the only replacement i thought who done a good job. Did prefer him as Simon Templer though.

  • @Clutzsilla1223 No way, The Saint was boadcasted some months AFTER Dr No's theatrical release.

  • @deusirae76 He must have been preparing and filming it though. And it was the Persuaders that kept him occupied after that.

  • @nakedmambo No, The Persuaders' initial broadcast was 1971 and it stopped in 1972.

  • @Clutzsilla1223

I heard that Fleming was impressed by Connery's performance in Dr. No that he started to write Bond novels while thinking of Connery. He even made cameo in From Russia with Love (which JFK reportedly enjoyed very much), but he died sadly the in 1964. Daniel Craig is closest to Fleming's original image of Bond.

  • @Kanuskiz

Actually most say Timothy Dalton came closest to Fleming's portrayal of him. He actually read the novels to get an insight into what character he was deep down. An underrated Bond he was. He should have made more than 2 movies.

  • @Clutzsilla1223 Although Connery IS Bond isn't he ?

  • Does anyone know where I can get this exact version of the them tune on mp3?

    Thanks.

  • Type the saint theme song on lime wire

  • This was my favourite theme music from any cult tv show, 3 different versions was used, on the opening credits, however, l feel this version was the most catchy one. THANKS FOR POSTING IT.

  • Roger Moore is Simon Templar. Nobody has done it better. He was born to play this role just like Connery was born to play Bond and Damon was born to play Bourne

  • I agree with you 100% siskojpc; Roger Moore was brilliant in the role of Simon Templar. He played the role perfectly with

just the right blend of charm and sophistication. I also think Sir Roger is a very underrated actor.

For any fans out there, his recent autobiography is a good read.

Finally, credit should be given to Edwin Astley who composed the wonderful theme tune.

I am enjoying watching the repeats on ITV4 - nostalgia at its very best.

  • We knew why all country had to protect their own culture, language and accents = another way to see the television series, drama ect... British series at this period was astonish brillant....where are they now : (

  • The best TV series of the sixties with great Roger Moore. I am just collecting the collection of these excellent series on DVD.

  • was this show shown in america or just in england?or both?

  • both

  • I always wonder why he has an angle halo above his head if he's not dead at all I wonder

  • The Saint, The Baron, Randall & Hopkirk (deceased), Department S, The Champions, The Persuaders, The Protectors. I loved these glossy 1960/1970's ITC TV episodes - represented English television's slant on the wider world. Big budget in many cases and, particularly with "The Saint" very well acted.

  • "THE SAINT" was among the first series Lew Grade's ITC syndicated to the United States, 'wm'- and WNBC-TV just happened to buy it to fill a late Sunday night time period in 1963. Who would have guessed it would become the most popular "imported" British detective series of the '60s {not counting "THE AVENGERS"}? It certainly figured into the NBC network's initially leasing the color episodes as Andy Williams' "summer replacement" in 1967....

  • this bring back the old days yen British tv woes good then in the 60 & 70. not like it is now a lode of crape.

  • can anyone upload for the saint full episode?i really like to watch it please.

  • It's on ITV 4 quite a lot, sometimes three times a week!

  • The central problem is that no one could fit in Sean Connery's shoes...

Brosnan was to girly for me, personally...

Roger Moore delivered his own style of Bond after not having to live up to the Sean Connery standard...but

Moore should have quit while he was ahead- after For Your Eyes Only...

  • The series' first four seasons (71 episodes) were produced in black and white from 1962 through '65 [airing Sunday nights on ATV in England, and initially syndicated in the United States in 1965]; 47 additional color episodes first appeared in England (again, on ATV) in the fall of 1966, which NBC [in the U.S.] initially scheduled in April 1967.

  • And even with the original B&W episodes, there was a tangential NBC connection - its New York flagship, WNBC-TV (Ch. 4), began running "The Saint" in the fall of 1963, initially on Sundays at 11:15 P.M. after the late news. The 71 B&W episodes were aired and reaired through 1967 - around the same time NBC first aired the color shows in the U.S.

  • This shit sucks, the Black and White version is MUCH MUCH BETTER

  • This color intro couldn't be as early as 1962; it would've been about 1967 and later. I realize that the 1962 date is probably the year the show started - in b&w, of course.

  • Takes me back to my young years in London during the early 60's.

  • He was an excellent Saint, but a bit too refined to be the Best Bond. He was more like the guy who told Bond what to do,heh.

  • Okay, does anyone recall a primitive sort of Saint stick figure animation where it appears he's walking down a tunnel? From a movie adaptation, perhaps? I vaguely recall this as a kid c. 1965 (during the spy craze).

  • I think you´re talking about the opening from Return of the Saint series. Starring Ian Ogilvy.

  • Casino Royale bond film intro ripped off the graphics from this series.

  • were the titles designed by maurice binder of Bond fame?

  • No...

  • Roger Moore was the BEST Saint and the BEST Bond!

  • agreed.

  • Connery was the best Bond.

  • Comment removed

  • Not in MY opinion. I say Roger Moore ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!

  • I think Moore's best Bond was Live and Let Die and I think he should have definitely quit after For Your Eyes Only! Over the years, I think the "Bond formula" has been watered down; in part, to appeal to younger audiences and in the interests of political correctness..

  • Connery just did not get along well with executive producer Cubby Broccoli...

All of the "Bonds" attended Broccoli's funeral except Connery; and with good reasons...

  • That's sad to hear. Do you have any more info?

  • Mr.Connery played the role stiff. Just watch all, and I mean ALL his Bond movies---Connery's performances were simply mechanical. The man couldn't smile convincingly when the scene called for one. After he matured (many years after Bond) he finally eased up and became an actor. But being the first Bond does carry a lot of weight with quite a few folks, so Connery is lucky.

  • the man with the polo mint lol thanks for the post

  • Best TV theme ever.

  • Best intro for The Saint. The musics different on the last season so it doesn't have the same affect when the halo appears.

  • Yeah! That was best The Saint theme music for ever, cool!

  • Every Thursday night, I'd be in front of the TV, watching......

  • I was afraid of the theme song when it came on CBS Late Night.

  • I love this music!

  • JUST FANTASTIC!

  • Yes- so cool.

  • The coolest theme ever !!!

  • The Saint, the Champions, UFO, on ITV4 & The Avengers on BBC4 on Fri's... I'm in TV nostalgia heaven! :P

  • The late George Sanders (Mr. Freeze On Batman) played The Saint in a few movies before Moore came along. Moore was the best. Scotish Connery has lots of fans. The British Moore was 007. Still waiting for EA Games Roger Moore 007 game. I think Octopussy would be the best, followed by The Spy Who Loved Me. Play as Roger Moore? Sign me up.

  • I could not agree more with you!!!

  • Afraid i have to disagree with you there. I didn't really like moore as Bond. He was really flip, cracking a joke when one wasn't appropriate. comic relief is one thing but he tended to destroy the tension and the stories themselves tended to be more campy than the others. I will admit that Man with the Golden Gun is one of my favourites but that was more for Christopher Lee's Scaramanga

  • cool intro the saint is wicked

  • the saint is so cool

  • HEY I WROTE THAT COMMENT ON MY BROTHERS ACOUNT

    Oops

  • MY FAVORITE SERIES!

  • I have only seen a little of The Saint when I was in France and of course it was French, didn't get a tune, but I found it great. :) Roger Moore is truly a man of great talent.

  • Roger Moore the man with the acting eye brows

  • Roger moore as Simon Templer came in at number 25 in TV's 50 Greatest Hard Men.

  • this intro music - rocks!!!!!!

  • THIS SHOW WAS TOO COOL FOR WORDS. Sean Connery is James Bond, but Roger Moore is THE SAINT.

  • Roger Moore is a legend and so is The Saint :D

  • They could not have picked a better person than Roger Moore to play this role!

Even today, he still dresses impeccably!

    Long live the Saint!

  • The Orbital remake of this song is awesome.

  • ive just seen the end of 1 of the shows but it was the best end ive ever seen better that astro boy

  • the best show in the world

  • he was the great at simon templar

  • Visually I think this is the best "Saint" intro. However there was an updated version of the tune circa 1969 which I just prefer. It was on youtube but it has since been taken off.

  • Why the hell did they replace this theme tune with that crappy one they used in the later 60's episodes, which didn't suit the series at in (in my opinion). This is the best theme tune by far!

  • Best ever:D love Moore

  • So weird that an Englishmen used a swedish car. Thanks 77WABC and tubecarlo!

  • This was just before Volvo got a new CEO that decided to fully go into to the family car mass market.

  • Which brand of car used Roger Moore in the TV show?

  • It was a Volvo I believe.

  • I think it was the P1800 Volvo, it was a rare Volvo model.

  • l am far from Gay , but he was a good looking Dude !

  • Moore, Price and Sanders are the best Saints

  • Roger Moore = The Saint NOT James Bond.

  • He also did James Bond

  • Yes I know, but he will always be the saint to me. And Sean Connery will always be Bond.

  • That's true :P

  • a young roger moore! WOW!! ; )

  • Utterly Cool Theme/Intro!! I think I saw this when I was about 8yrs old, and I thought The Saint was a detective who was a ghost! (Wrong Show!)

----Mikey (Uh, in '68 it was Michael)

  • What a load of cock! M293 you talk total penis oh yes you do. Roger Moore is the greatest man alive even greater than me! Put that in your brandy and coke and drink it!!!!!!! AHahahahahahhahhahahah!!!!!!!!

  • hehe, easy on the coffee.

  • Showing again on ITV4

  • Always liked his little look up to the halo

  • Roger in the saint. Great. In the Persuaders even better. But as Bond? His 007 movies were pantomime. Go to exotic location, have fight, get clue, have girl, move to another location etc. etc. Lazenby's film one of the best. Dalton was good. All had what is referred to as plot! But Connery the man. No doubt. He actually played the part. Not going through the motions. Anyone care to argue?

  • For me there are two kinds: The rough like Connery and the refine like Moore, the rest are version in-between of the two except Daniel Craig who is like Connery but even more like the Bond from the Ian Fleming's character in the novels. That's my opinion. :)

  • Wise words. I totally agree. Flemings Bond was a ruthles b*****d so connery fit the bill. Daniel Craig is excellent as Bond. Brought the charecter back to life. Not sure about Quantum of Solace as the next title tough. Will be an interesting theme song.#

  • Fleming emphasized Bond's Scottish heritage in admiration of Sean Connery's cinematic portrayal. James Bond's parents are Andrew Bond, a Scotsman, and Monique Delacroix, from Canton de Vaud, Switzerland. Their nationalities were established in On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

  • To add further fuel to the debate, anyone else out there thinks Clive Owen would make a superb Bond?

  • ya clive owen would make an excellent james bond, but he,ll have to wait his turn

  • So, to conclude, Craig is the first actor to truly embody Ian Fleming's James Bond from the original novel: ironic, brutal, and cold.

  • Definitely have to agree with you. Moore was better off as The Saint than as Bond.

  • absolutly, Roger Moore began in Live and Let Die and finished in A View to a Kill, bringing us some of the most memorable movies and villians. Compare Sean Connery's trowing a lamp into the bath to kill a man compaired to Roger Moore's kicking a car of a cliff in For Your Eyes only. ROGER MOORE IS BOND and could kick Sean's butt anyday. As for The Persuaders and The Saint, your totally right and I agree with you to the end. GREAT ACTOR, GREAT MAN!

  • sean connery was the best bond

  • Timothy Dalton for the worst Bond ever. At least he was the most unsuccesful. George Lazenby is also a strong contestant for the title as the worst Bond. His name and face was not even featured during the original promotion of the film, which otherwise might be the best of the saga. Roger Moore and Sean Connery are the most iconic, recognizable and succesful Bond's faces.

  • Poor ignorant,shut up!!

  • Roger Moore was the Saint. Connery was Bond. Craig Daniel has potential to be greatest Bond since Connery, although Dalton was underrated in my eyes.

  • I think younger audiences like Craig but I think overall reactions to him are mixed, at best. Several weeks ago

Craig arrived unannounced at a popular Hollywood dining establishment "that was packed" and people were in line waiting; but not even "James Bond"? could get a table...

"Daniel who?, oh, him..." Uh no, we're saving that table for Kim Kardashian...!! LOL!

  • Roger Moore did do a very good job in trying to fill the very big shoes left by Connery. I feel that yes he did go on too long in the role but essentially the Bond films of the 80s and after were poor. Timothy Dalton suffered with a production so poor that it looked as if should have been made for Television. The Brosnon era brought about films that pushed the boundaries of belief and product placing that made the films look like adverts. Casino Royal was the best since the Spy Who Loved Me

  • This is indeed the color opening title, as seen from 1966 {U.S.- 1967} through 1969. Harry W. Junkin had originally made a name for himself as head writer and host for NBC Radio's "RADIO CITY PLAYHOUSE" in the late '40s...

  • roger moore is a legend, god bless the 1960's and roger as james bond.

  • The Best of all 007s but I really like Casino Royale KICK-ASS J.Bond.

  • Usually all of the great TV series like "The Saint" have a classic music theme and this is one of the "best". Thanks for posting !

  • My pleasure!

  • Trivia - Ted Astley was the composer of the theme song. His eldest daughter Karen married Pete Townshend of the Who. Townshend eventually dumped her for a much younger woman after more than 30 years.

  • I love this intro, thanks for posting it

  • Cool :f

    and sweet <3

  • Used to DJ to Orbital's Saint film theme check it out on here. Awesome still and god it used to get the crowd up4it

  • why dont they make intros like this anymore??

  • I know this intro is awesome

  • Because people like crap now-a-days, thats why they don't make intros and good shows like in the saint anymore.

  • I concure, my friend. And I'm sorry, but the Val Kilmer remake of this film pissed me of in so many ways. Roger will always be the only Simon Templar that matters. God bless classic TV.

  • The first time I watched this on youtube I felt pretty emotional in a nostalgic sort of way. Still I've watched a few more clips and feel much better. Great memories. Great programme, along with lots of others like....The persuaders, The Champions, Lost in space, stingray etc.

  • Wish they showed this in the United States still

  • They do it in Sverige!!!

  • What I'd like to hear is the full end credits suite of this theme version without interruption by the broadcasting company.

  • Nice opening, and cool music, kind of Ray Martin-ish!

  • I really like many on the British shows from the 60's and 70's

  • This is where my love affair with British TV programmes and gorgeous British actors started and continues to this day.

  • that show was wonderful - much better than return of the saint...

  • AQctually, "THE SAINT" wasn't produced in color until 1966 [American audiences first saw those episodes on NBC in the summer of 1967].

  • fabster3333:

Thanks for the memories! Keep 'em coming.
