Very dynamic time. Courtney and Inger were former roommates, as well as Kat Bjelland. Nirvana, Hole and the Nymphs were on the same label. The label sat on the Nymphs record for two years to record GNR while the Hollywood Scream scene left for Seattle. Nirvana broke, The Scream scene (Janes) became Lollapalooza, Tool escaped from Seattle and got signed in Hollywood, the rest is history. Interesting song.
Someone really took the time to write a song about a woman who lost her husband because he was Seattle loser who made it to Sub Pop, popularized flannel, nut job, needle junkie, and killed himself. Yet all the blame is directed to the one woman who loved him the most., who quite honestly is more talented than this band. How bad does your band have to be to write songs about Courtney Love? Really-- Foo Fighters was funny enough, New Radicals made that one hit wonder, but this?
Inger Lorre should get the respect she deserves, it makes me sick that Courtney got the fame, but talent wise, Malibu? Oh please. yuck. Was into the Nymphs when I was in highschool.
@LeshaAnn Mainstreamy, yeah right. I had never heard of her before today, whereas I have heard of Courtney my whole entire life. Every few months she does something crazy to get media attention. She has said so many times that all she really wants is to be famous and rich and have attention, which is the opposite of punk ethos, so you got that statement backwards.
@KristinNirvana If you've "heard of Courtney [your] whole entire life," that means that you are WAY too young to lecture ME about the punk ethos, girlie! BELIEVE me when I tell u that the mainstream record biz gave Inger and her band, The Nymphs, a HUGE mainstream build-up; It just wasn't SUCCESSFUL. I was talking about pre-Kurt Courtney, anyway.
She WAS a big presence in the underground scene, & I knew who she was 4 years b4 Nirvana's "Bleach" came out.
@LeshaAnn I am young, but not way young, I'm 18. I thought it was funny that you didn't mention how fame obsessed Courtney is and you were talking about this woman I don't know of. So from my angle, it is backwards, but that's only because I don't know what it was like before. When I started checking out the whole punk thing, I was shocked that all those people had the same ethics as me. I thought I was my own individual self. Courtney was the one to make me realize that I don't want fame.
@KristinNirvana Fair enough, but please notice, if you will, that my exact words were "[Inger Lorre} wishes she had as much punk-rock ethos as CL **HAD"" in her pinkie toe," past tense. I have always been a Courtney apologist, but even I wouldn't try to argue that what she has BECOME has anything at all to do with a punk a/o "indie" spirit. However, there WAS a time when she was hella-cool. As for "killing Kurt," man is that TIRED;People can't accept that great men can be suicidal. No Conspiracy
Oh, if I had the album I would definitely share it online. Especially with fans as enthusiastic and awesome as you all. Unfortunately, this is the only song I have. If you like, though, I'd be happy to upload this song.
