Meryl streep is an idol of mine not because she's a famous actor, but because any time i see her, she is beautiful. She has this effortlessness about her that I want to have in myself
She is surely right that our memories are full of remembered people ,stereotypes, previous actors' performances that a talented actor can roll into a coherent whole... With training. Can this 'conjuring up'damage actor's own ego?
@EnchantedSilence you have to go to: 'save in' (loosely translated from my language) which is next to 'share' and there you can add it to your favourites.
@XIHeartMerylStreepX meryl replied in italian, "i'm sorry to disappoint you." meryl also said in another interview that de laurentiis denied the meeting took place. i'm sending you now the vid of meryl's interview regarding de laurentiis : ))
Meryl made a very intersting point about directors wanting to 'have a look at you'. There's so much more to an actor than what meets the eye....I wish I could have a conversation with her!
Streep makes sure humanity stays truly beautiful. Even the unspeakables.
Never have I seen such a gifted actress who has a nose for anybodys soul.
They say she can play any character, any accent- but most of all she can locate any heart in any woman who would be burned in the 1800th century, jailed in the 1900 or listed clinically insane today.
We owe her so much gratitude for saying yes, empathy is something we can use. It is real. It works. On film, and it looks even better in life.
What meryl is saying is somewhat related to her unsuccessful audition for Dino De Laurentiis for the leading role in kingkong. De Laurentiis commented to his son in italian, :SHE'S UGLY. why did you bring me THIS THING?" and was shocked when meryl replied in fluent italian.
Not very often she really opens up about her craft, not very often we get a glimpse within that cameleon, that wonderful that greatest actress of all time.
katydid44: True, everyone has the right to make the notice, even when the notice is shallow... That's the sad aspect of democracy... I also prefer when people LISTEN to what wise people have to tell them, than to comment how they look like... BTW, I don't want to dispute about sth that - as I feel it - we have in the basis the same opinion about - forget the hair, listen to words!
CRAP!! Who cares about her hair. This is the premier actor of her time... of either gender... fergetaboutherhair!!! Listen and hear what she is trying to tell you..
Or maybe your mind is so shallow her words simple skim off the surface. What a waste of her time and energy some of you are.
I'm sitting her simply shaking my head in disgust.
Katydid41- I agree with You, but...relax, that's what goes together with "being famous", esp. in the "internet epoc", esp. with teenagers. Haven't You noticed that 90% of the comments on "YouTube" are just like: "she/he looks sooooo ...goood/hot/awful/awsom/ etc, etc" ;) Anyway- I'm always glad to find some new interview's pieces with MS, even if shes bald ;)
geeeeeez! I can understand your point, but relax a bit... just because someone makes a comment about her hair or her looks or something it doesnt mean that they are shallow.... i think meryl is the greatest actor ever, shes a fantastic person, but i also think shes a shes knockout! beautiful, has great hair a lovely voice and so on.. just because i think shes pretty doesnt mean that its the only thing i care about! maybe you should realize that everything has more than your side of it...
She makes a very good point, but I think that personality plays a part into how an actor serves the story. Can they be willing to explore and channel something if they themselves cannot personally see themselves in a role? Streep can channel anything, but she doesn't allow any personality to trickle into her performances. Personality isn't the weapon to a good performance, it is the fuel.
Yes, an actor is there to "serve the story". Very true. You are there to SERVE. A painter serves the painting, a dancer serves the dance, a scientist serves the facts. When it comes to creating, get your ego out of the way!

Cerva; Being a "teenager" is no excuse for being shallow. I was once a teenager and I never thought/spoke like this.
I am not the one who thinks teenagers are shallow btw.
Aaand... "relax" is dismissive and silly.
IF nobody calls jerky behaviors jerky behaviors... nothing ever changes. IF I want to notice then I will notice and speak up.
