i bought a new maytag washer/dryer in 2006, spent over 2 thousand bucks and i thought i was supporting a worker in iowa and getting a great product. neither was true, dryer is falling apart, washer makes my clothes stink. my old 1985 models were great, wish i still had them. shame on maytag! do not buy their inferior products, unless you have money to waste.
All those guys in Newton can give a big thanks to Whrilpool for this. THey are the ones that bought out Maytag and closed the plant down. If i can help I will NEVER buy a new Whirlpool product!
Maytag left Newton? I didn't know that. I've got family and friends there...never heard anything about it. It's a shame for the people who lost their jobs.
Maytag had way to many workers taking advantage of the workman's comp program and were always out on medical leave for a variety of reasons (stress, sore, etc.) collecting a check when they could damn well be working. I don't blame Maytag for leaving. (I didn't say all of the workers, just too many)
How sad !! Maytag used to rule the industry,Great song!!Good Luck to everyone who lost their jobs!! Its happening all over this country ,Corporate Greed!
Hey I also worked for Maytag for 3yrs but down in SouthTex at the order desk. I worked with peeps from Newton and was even sent up there for training. I loved my job and all the really cool people in IA good luck to you all.
Dad just had his last day yesterday at that plant. 21 years and all he gets is a lousy severince package. Thanks for bringing this issue to Youtube. I know that its too late to do anything about it now but its great to get the story out.
Ralph just wanted all of the money he could get. This is not what Fred Maytag would have wanted. The Newton speedway and the Bio Diesel plant did not replace the hundreds of jobs we lost here in Newton. I am also from Newton so I understand how you feel.
Hey brother dont feel like your all alone .I was a service tech for maytag for 15 years.loved my job .now i cant stand Ralph...he killed maytag and all who worked for them.
ugh, stupid maytag. Newton has gone down hill now. Graduated and I got out of there as soon as I could.

What went wrong with the post on HeyIowa. com?

You should post this over on HeyIowa. com
There's a lot of folks from Newton (former Maytaggers) that would enjoy this.

that's just tragic. maytag used to be a good company with well built products by world class people.
Maytag leaving Newton was like GM leaving Flint.
I wish you IA folks better luck!
