My apologies to Saint Barbara, but diction does matter because the emotional content of text matters. Sutherland was a phenomenal technician. I am always dazzled by her singing, but only occasionally moved.

However. Let me put it to you this way, never a finer machine created than Joan Sutherland. The clarity of voice absolute perfection, diction a disaster, but who cares?

Excellent rendition. I only wish I could have been there for this performance that my friends rave about. They say the low notes were superb and her acting stoic but convincing. Youthful people,a word, we can learn from these recordings instead of reading them. Listen to the ovations....
