@pecintapiano I believe that it is radio waves recorded with special equipment on a space Hubble that picks up strange readings and plays in actual sound
so this was recorded in 1991... i wonder how the sounds change from time to time... would it be any similar to the way it is today? how big is lo compared to earth? that's what's missing in the description.
How fitting, yes? Most of these astronomical bodies sound as if they are haunted. Well, they are in deed barren and rather lifeless, thus it fits my overall expectations for them.
@TheInterstella5555 officialy electro-magnatic (not magnatic) waves are not sound they are radiation like light and radio is but these are indeed capable of being transformed into sound we can hear
For what reasons do they make these noises? Can anyone explain more in depth? Obviously I don't want you to explain 'sound' to me, but something 'makes a sound'...just wondering how these sounds come about is all.
@BTJMO The current theory is that since Io is so close to Jupiter, the tidal forces make it one of the most actively volcanic bodies in the solar system. This 'squeezing' of Io by Jupiter's magnetic field cause huge eruption on Io that can actually shoot debris off Io, since its escape velocity is relatively low, and then interacts strongly with Jupiter's magnetic field which creates electromagnetic waves which can be transformed into sound. Look up "Radio Jove Project" for more information
@noodlewhip Thank you for taking the time to explain, noodlewhip! One learns something new every day, I'll be sure to check out the Radio Jove Project! Thanks again.
@noodlewhip io is squeezed by gravity not by jupiter magnatic field, also radio is created by solar wind hitting jupiters magnetic field, this means this is not necessarily created by particles from io, thus every planet except for venus and mars emit this kind of radio radiation, i guess you got some info scrambled up LOL
@YoshiTheGreenOne oops sorry, i said tidal forces so that implies gravity. There are audio files that you can hear when voyager crossed Jupiter's bow shock, but these recordings are S-Waves and L-Waves, which come from debris from Io's volcanoes interactions with the magnetic field of Jupiter not solar wind LMAO
Quick question: Are the waves coming from Jupiter terrible strong? Because if they are, I'm interested as to how they separated the two from each other.
its crazy anyone would believe nasa or the govnt space really haves air they just lie to us just like about history science and all those shit in those text books
2:00.... Undeniable meditation chimes... not unlike windchimes blowing gently in some evil, morose, and macabre breeze... Also, very quietly the sound of screams.
the greek playwright aeschylus wrote "prometheus bound" and included io as a minor character. once a beautiful virginal priestess, she had been transformed by jealous hera into a white heifer because she was unlucky enough to be seduced by zeus. combined with the bovine makeover was the maddening punishment of biting horseflys which drove her all over greece. perhaps these sounds emulate her miserable mooing.
There are some very interesting sub-tones , but you have to really add some volume to hear them.I hear a rumble (Jupiter?), a whoosh or rush, kind of like a steady wind, then something like a horn about ready to sound, and a intermittent pulsation, very interesting!!
@Legolas3111 You: zomfg! Vacuum in space, no sound in vacuum! I'm right and gay!
Me: uugghh, listen, you're right in some parts, sound waves cannot travel through a vacuum, but radio waves can. Got me now? No? Ok, radio waves can be picked up by the satellites and transformed into sound waves here on earth. Now? Ugh, plants give out radio waves... So do stars and... Everything in space, and that is how we "listen to the planets".
i love listening to all these sounds. it reminds me how beatiful and also quit scary our universe is. this sounds could also be used in some sci-fi movies. i would need fresh underwear.. just for the sound effects :D
because of the 400+ volcanoes on this moon, this recording that we are hearing is probably all of those volcanoes being so loud that it makes this "wake" of a noise. it is at times, very creepy. sounds like screams of dead people at times. 1 description I have read that is sounds like an underwater cave.
@SnoFromBunnyHeaven It's actually traveling electromagnetic waves in the form of photons - specifically radio and microwave wavelengths - that provide the most interesting "sounds." We hear these the same way we hear radio waves: by having a tuner resolve the e-m waves and map them to an audible range that the human ears can detect.
there must be something ! omg it's full with misteries!!
