  • I looove how you teach i just dont like the song:(

  • Cool! :')

  • He sounds, a little, like Paul..XD

  • Just wanted to hear the song, not learn how to play a ukelele.

  • aint that a banjo?

  • The most entertaining uke video I've seen.

  • Haha u said g string

  • thank you

  • hamburgers are made of what!?

  • like ur shirt

  • I love seeing other Aussie uke players on here. Great tutorial, and cool banjolele. I love the headstock.

  • Nice video, I like your crystal clear explanation and old school methods.

A great song actually, it was most likely written by someone who sat out listening and watching the birds and wrote from practical experience. Gotta love it.

  • you ARE canadian i knew it.

  • play the damn song supper dupperly

  • Link doesn't work, I'll just google it.

    Great video thanks!

  • awsome man

    thanks verry much

  • Thanks! I can now (kind of) play my first song! Of course there's a lot of room for improvement. ;) Love how you take the time to explain everything, and demo what it should sound like. Any more beginner uke videos coming soon?

  • Hi the instrument you call a ukulele, but the ones i have seen are of all wood construction, are there similarities, or different kinds of Uke, which one are you playing, love the tune .

  • @welsharcher Hi, I am playing a Banjo Ukulele. It is a Ukulele with a Banjo body. It is also refered to as a 'banjolele'. Look up 'George Formby' to see a demo of true banjolele stlye.

  • batbreath77 - Men at Work lost a case against the copyright holders of this song in Feb, the judge ruled that they pretty much stole the rift for Down Under.

  • @banjomactavish I just listened to both songs here on YT and for the life of me, I cannot make out any similarities. What was that judge smoking during recess?

  • @Didgeman80 to be fair you are just about the coolest dude on youtube!

I am getting a uke in a couple of weeks and will be putting your vid to good use THANK YOU!! ;D XX

  • Gay your life must be xDXDXDDX

  • @Muggstear Once upon a time, like when this famous folk song was written, 'gay' meant 'happy'. All these years later, it sill means 'happy' but if you'd like a imagine a homosexual Kookaburra, go right ahead ;)

  • @Didgeman80 lol burn!

  • @Didgeman80 new political laws now say that politically, instead of gay, it should be happy.

Political correctness, Ba ba Rainbow sheep, marker board, chalk board. Stupid

  • Hamburgers are made out WHAT? O.0

  • My G string just know snapped off from tuning. awesome.

  • Laughed so hard!!

  • Excellent thanks so much for that nice one mate, keep the lessons comming

  • The court case only said that a flute riff played in the song "Down Under" was from the Kookaburra song, not the entire song of Down Under. From the news reports, it seems the flute player admitted as much.

  • listen to the song LORD OF THE DANCE [ music-only] it sounds like LAND DOWN UNDER ALSO.

  • hello didgeman, I'd like your opinion on the so-called similarities between this tune and Men at Work's Down Under. Do you believe they ripped off the tune? :) cheers

  • Never heard that theory before but sitting here and singing both to myself, I'd have to think no.....I don't think so.

  • Cheers for the reply, the story is on the news here in Oz, a court case wanting to sue them for ripping the tune from Kookaburra. I agree it sounds nothing like it LOL. If you google Aussie news you'll see the story. Your banjo and didge playing is great BTW :)

  • Oh thank you SO much for posting this! You're really quite helpful, thanks for really bothering to explain absolutely everything!

  • Thank you very much for this

  • 5:21 "Gay your life must be" :D

You will never know how to play ukulele if you dont know how after this video. Great job!

  • I love your shirt, dude.

    haha XD

I just learned to play this song on harmonica but I've always wanted to pick up the uke too. Someday... someday.

  • ahhhhhhh..... It reminds me of old Aussie comfort!!!! I love those majestic birds! Nothing can describe Australia than a True Blue kookaburra!

  • i love how the stuffed animal falls

  • Yeah....totally unplanned. It almost looks like the didge caused it to go in to cardiac arrest and keel over and die. I laughed too the first time I played it back.

    :)

  • Thank for taking the time just picked up a Fluke Uke for my 42nd birthday and playing songs already!

    Aloha!

  • thank you. i needed that, but is that a uke or a banjo

  • Thanks. That helped me out alot! :)

  • That's a ukulele and not a banjo?

  • Thank you kindly! This was amazing! Auzzie and Proud! Love it! Good job, paying it forward!

  • thats not you playing asshole!

  • lol. It fell down.

Talk about multi-tasking. Well done. =]

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I just bought a ukulele a week ago with no experience,

and thanks to you, I can already play a song!

    Much love.

  • lol

  • great video! makes me want to learn the uke!

  • hey mate.. it's pronounced "cook-a-bar-a"

  • WITH A K FOR "K"OOK

  • Nicest guy ever

  • Hey amazing work!

well I might won't play an Ukulele, but it's was a very educating and entertaining tutorial!

And your playing on the Didgeredoo was faszinating!

    Thanks a lot!

PS: Are you a teacher ore do you workshops?

  • That's an interesting banjolele.. never seen one! People on here sure do have some small penises... You have a great voice m8, keep at it.

  • gay your life must be....faggot

  • Wow!! What a super intelligent comment! You must be a really great person!

  • You're clearly a teenager and might not realize something. Just so you know, the term 'gay' once meant 'happy' as it does in this song. Now a days, it means 'homosexual' as well as 'happy'. Go check out the flinstones theme song for a repeat performance.

  • @reptile0817 Just means your a dumb bitch who needs to know the difference between Happy Gay and Homosexual Gay.

  • Can I Have Your Top When You Die??

  • Well, I used it for painting as it was getting old so I don't think you really want it anymore. It is a funny shirt though!!

    :)

  • thats deff not a uke.

  • Nope, it's a banjolele. Built with a saprano neck and fret spacing, tuned like a ukulele but with a smaller banjo body, it is a banjolele. Check out George Formby banjolele playing on youtube.

    :)

  • awesine job dude, i respect that ur helpin noobies. i was 1 not too long ago (6 months) even though i play electric guitar

  • Maybe it's just me, but that looks like a banjo to me, no matter what you say... I can see that the board and bar are a little smaller, but it's still a banjo... but, then again, I'm a product of the Arkansas public school system, so maybe I missed something. A good instructional video if you can find one of these instruments. I liked it anyway.

  • I enjoyed this video very much, and I have absolutely no hope to acquire any musical talent, I've tried.

    Thank you sir.

  • took too long. SEVEN MINUTES before ANY kind of song at all and then, it wasn't even the complete song. Also, it treated us in a patronizing, condescending way that was frankly insulting.

  • The point of the video was to take time teaching the song, it was not about performing the song. Out of 8,000+ views, you are the only negative comment received....you win the negative nelly award!!! (Didgeman hands sevenonpaper their award with a congradulatory smile!!)

  • Really awesome, I've got to try this sometime :)! Great touch with the plush kookaburra and didgeridoo too!

  • i grew up learnin different lyrics

kookaburra sits in the old gum tree

eating all the gumdrops he can see

    laugh kookaburra laugh

kookaburra please save some for me

but great job on the vid!

do you have any ideas of what other 3 chord songs would be easy to learn for a beginner?

  • That's just another verse...there's a few more.

  • That is a Banjo unless that is in the Uke family dude your title should say Banjo not ukulele

  • Actually, it's a banjolele. Tuned like a uku but with a skin top and a resonator; in the ukulele family so I think I can get away with the title :p

    :)

  • lolyoutubecomments

  • i sing, but i need to learn some instrument cos i am so tired of "canned" music. i feel i don't have artist freedom.

i had no idea so many were interested in the ukulele, this was very cool. this looks like a bango, but what do i know.

    michael

  • A ukulele is a very useful instrument. It can add some color to a grey song, it can do some amazing solos or, in your case, it can accompany a great voice. By learning three chords you can play many songs and sing to them. :)

  • thanks

  • by now you probably found out they make a banjo version of the Uke some call it a Banjulele, it only has four string compaired to the five string on many banjos. It is a cool instrument and provides a unique sound
