Nice video, I like your crystal clear explanation and old school methods.
A great song actually, it was most likely written by someone who sat out listening and watching the birds and wrote from practical experience. Gotta love it.
Thanks! I can now (kind of) play my first song! Of course there's a lot of room for improvement. ;) Love how you take the time to explain everything, and demo what it should sound like. Any more beginner uke videos coming soon?
Hi the instrument you call a ukulele, but the ones i have seen are of all wood construction, are there similarities, or different kinds of Uke, which one are you playing, love the tune .
@welsharcher Hi, I am playing a Banjo Ukulele. It is a Ukulele with a Banjo body. It is also refered to as a 'banjolele'. Look up 'George Formby' to see a demo of true banjolele stlye.
batbreath77 - Men at Work lost a case against the copyright holders of this song in Feb, the judge ruled that they pretty much stole the rift for Down Under.
@banjomactavish I just listened to both songs here on YT and for the life of me, I cannot make out any similarities. What was that judge smoking during recess?
@Muggstear Once upon a time, like when this famous folk song was written, 'gay' meant 'happy'. All these years later, it sill means 'happy' but if you'd like a imagine a homosexual Kookaburra, go right ahead ;)
The court case only said that a flute riff played in the song "Down Under" was from the Kookaburra song, not the entire song of Down Under. From the news reports, it seems the flute player admitted as much.
hello didgeman, I'd like your opinion on the so-called similarities between this tune and Men at Work's Down Under. Do you believe they ripped off the tune? :) cheers
Cheers for the reply, the story is on the news here in Oz, a court case wanting to sue them for ripping the tune from Kookaburra. I agree it sounds nothing like it LOL. If you google Aussie news you'll see the story. Your banjo and didge playing is great BTW :)
Yeah....totally unplanned. It almost looks like the didge caused it to go in to cardiac arrest and keel over and die. I laughed too the first time I played it back.
You're clearly a teenager and might not realize something. Just so you know, the term 'gay' once meant 'happy' as it does in this song. Now a days, it means 'homosexual' as well as 'happy'. Go check out the flinstones theme song for a repeat performance.
Nope, it's a banjolele. Built with a saprano neck and fret spacing, tuned like a ukulele but with a smaller banjo body, it is a banjolele. Check out George Formby banjolele playing on youtube.
Maybe it's just me, but that looks like a banjo to me, no matter what you say... I can see that the board and bar are a little smaller, but it's still a banjo... but, then again, I'm a product of the Arkansas public school system, so maybe I missed something. A good instructional video if you can find one of these instruments. I liked it anyway.
took too long. SEVEN MINUTES before ANY kind of song at all and then, it wasn't even the complete song. Also, it treated us in a patronizing, condescending way that was frankly insulting.
The point of the video was to take time teaching the song, it was not about performing the song. Out of 8,000+ views, you are the only negative comment received....you win the negative nelly award!!! (Didgeman hands sevenonpaper their award with a congradulatory smile!!)

by now you probably found out they make a banjo version of the Uke some call it a Banjulele, it only has four string compaired to the five string on many banjos. It is a cool instrument and provides a unique sound

Actually, it's a banjolele. Tuned like a uku but with a skin top and a resonator; in the ukulele family so I think I can get away with the title :p

i had no idea so many were interested in the ukulele, this was very cool. this looks like a bango, but what do i know.
