Keep in mind. This way of ending a crabs life is WAY better and much more instantaneous than putting it in a boiling pot. The movement you see after the head is removed is involuntary movement. The crab is no longer alive. Although, I would prefer to just freezing the crab.

In fact, not only did this crab get the quickest death compared to freezing, boiling, or even slow attack by a predator in the wild, but the "waste" was dumped back into the sea so some other animal could eat it. You don't nesesarily have to eat the insides but if you boil them first then clean them the meat tastes way better. I don't see how people can stick they're finger in the crab butter and eat it, thats gross, but it does taste better when cooked with it.

The ONLY way to kill a crab you want to leave in one piece to intend to boil and eat, is to lay the crab on its back, lift up the pointed 'flap', insert a screwdriver or sharp knife into the 'hole' or indent in the centre (the heart) and give it a quick hard tap with a hammer or push hard on the knife. Turn it and let it drain. The crab will die within minutes; less painfully than boiling it alive or cutting its head off. .

And yes, I know, they do that with crabs too. But there's a lot of people that know how to humanely kill a lobster- stick a knife in its back and then cut its head in half.
