wish i was still skating like this i miss those twin city days we was the first ones to group skate back in the 70s and 80s its good to see the young folks keep it alive
Ive never seen anything like this and I've been skating for 25 years! It's amazing I love the way they flow so effortlessly it's just astonishing to me! Good job :)
im 43 years old and i havent been skating since the late 70s early 80s and i have been watching these vids i use to group skate dance on skates all that but lately i have been dreaming of getting back out there but its been so long dont know if that will work not in the position to brake any bones lol..any good skaters got advice good advice not the basic start off slow
buggeazy, you have to do it. I'm 45. I used to skate in the late 70s. well after watching some great videos on youtube, i had to go back. I just started back two weeks ago. I didn't have my own skates so i had to use rentals. I do not recommend. I could not stay on my feet. They are like high heaes on ice. I got my own skates with nice wheels and the difference is no more falls. IT IS SO MUCH FUN! You will not regret going back. There are 70 year olds doing it!!
@buggeazy102 If you haven't gone back skating since you posted I encourage you to do so. I'm 43 too and I went back skating some months ago (I did break my ankle (house skates) after got my cast off went right back at it lol) I purchased my OWN skates.I thought skating was dead.Boy was I wrong. I skate better now then I did when I was younger. I get the better skaters to teach me all the turns and things like you see in this video.I go all the time now. Millennium Camden NJ Wed 9pm Adult night
Group skate isn't new. Which I guess you know already. I live near Toms River NJ and although we have Jackson Rink down here sometimes we all go to Woodbridge, 22 is too far for the gas. sorry But groups were done when we were kids at Eatontown and Wall Rollerdrome rinks.
I miss those days and Eatontown was "the joint" back in the day. btw I am part Blackfoot Indian and my husband is part Cherokee and wish we saw more of "us" at rinks. SIgh.
Anyhow it's not about race but about the danceonwhels
@jumper8205 we started group skating back in the 70s at twin city rollar rink in nj its closed now turn it into a super market but those was the old days
i love roller skating...it shouldnout be a black or white sport....im happy that skate 22 is open since its like 5 mins drive from me.... everyone there is helpful and nice...especially being a beginner...Wed nites r the best
Hi John, I really like your vids. Being an avid skater as a kid and a roller derby skater, I Really want to learn how to jam skate like the skaters in this video. They have such fluidity and amazing rhythm. Nice job, thanks for posting!
I love 22! I'm glad they reopened. Thank you for your honest comments on the skaters and the facility. I love your comment about black / white skaters. I skate at Roller Jam in Staten Island a lot and I get the "looks" being a black skater in a predominately white rink - except on Saturday nights when all the skaters from the old rinks get together for an Adult skate. I hope to see you out at 22 one day. Skate on!
Thanks. I am so happy that Skate 22 is open. The idea that a bad apple can bring down a place is insane. All the displaced kids on the street without SKating as an option is so stupid. Our politicians making bad decisions. Closing that rink will make all those kids disappear. Everyone wants to be safe. Well placed cameras recording to the internet, a cop at the door would end any problem. We need a place to be athletic & artistic.
hey dog, you're real about your comments, i don't know what it would take for the rest of the world to know that we are the best skaters in the world and we accept everybody no matter what race you are as long as you're rollin,, now that's real
I agree with this guy on his commentary on white vs black skating rinks. When I was in Seattle, my skating had parents scared to have their kids on the floor! Ahaha! They literally took their children off the floor when I was skating because I was doing so many twists and turns. But when we have Whites in our rinks? If they skate, or even attempt to skate with us...we show em love. When you rolling, what else is there to worry about except the beat, the floor, and the moment.
That's right skate 22 was the spot before the terrible tragedy,I loved when they did the guys only,it gave us a chance to show off in front of the chicks!!!
im from jersey use to skate at twin city but i have not skate since the late 80s im afraid to go back plus i would have to rent skates that i always hated i had my own skates the best snyders and floor mates afraid i might embarres myself if i go back out after all this time im 42 years old maaan i might try it one day this summer
Hey man, this is a great video. Love the commentary. I can tell you are passionate about the music and skating. Are you going to be in Chicago anytime soon. Come check out the skating scene here. It's also off the chain.
I know from many comments about the death of a young man at the rink. I'm not going to cover that story. With Obama as our president I'm hoping for more coverage of Blacks in America to focus on the good. I love skate 22 and hope for it's reopening. There are a lot of people who enjoy peaceful fun skating there. It only takes one person to ruin it.
This is where true skaters are and where you learn from a friendly crowd. Everyone in the skate world supports eachother. I moved to Ga and the JB style is big but I can't help to stay true to the northern style and wait for house music to come on. Crews are learning from eachother and its been peace across the board. Miss skate 22. Peace Branchbrook and NYC keep your head up.
i recently moved from Jersey as well, and was pretty well known in 22, Branch Brook, Edison, and some rinks in NYC. im Tone, aka The King of Trains. i totally agree with all you said. im in Wilson, NC, and they practice JB here too. and the music's a bit different too, but since i work at the local rink, i'll give the dj my personal cd's. lol
but no matter where i skate, aint nothin but respect. KEEP ON ROLLIN!
This was the best group skating I ever saw and I skate almost every weekend. I never seen so many people in a group skate line. I have to take a trip to skate22 one day! You did a great job, editing the video and commentary.
i didnt make the comment, but skating is DEFINITELY big down south. they have a style thats basically formatted around James Brown music, called the JB style. its pretty cool, and if you ever get the opportunity, you should check it out
I live about 10 minutes away from Skate 22 and I love this video..these are my neighbors..Very Good Job
