a dependable and clean water supply would allow for the development of healthy communities in poverty-stricken nations. in africa, charities have been working to provide deep water wells powered by a wheel above ground that kids can play with to pump the water. forgot what this specific charity is actually named-couldn't find it quickly on google-but it looked effective. micro-investment groups are funding african small business from person to person.

has anyone ever thought about how things like malaria, lack of potable water, etc. are just god's way of thinning the herd and controlling overpopulation in a world where people breed irresponsibly?
do you honestly believe there's enough land and resources on earth for everyone to have a nice house, a good job, plenty of food, plenty of water, a nice car, nice clothes, a bunch of kids, etc., especially as a reward for irresponsible breeding?
How true - water really is precious, and looking at the US West, we're headed for some real problems! Perhaps solar powered desalination plants and much wiser usage of water will make the difference.
