Listen to all four of his solo albums. Solo work is what he did in his later late. All four CDs available at cdbaby. I am getting ready to release another one called "Sunrise in Manaus". I am his widow Anne Sete.
Bola Sete um dos grandes violonistas brasileiro de todos os tempos, provavelmento contemporaneo de Garoto outro gênio das cordas, e sem dúvida a maneira dos nossos violonistas tocarem hoje deve tudo a esses grandes mestres.
If you guys really enjoy brazilian guitarrists, try searching for "Raphael Rabello - Desvairada" here in youtube and you'll know who is the best brazilian guitar player ever. However, Bola Sete is magical, amazing player!!!
He is Pelé on a guitar. Shame, almost nobody knows him here in Brasil... perhaps cause dozens of guitarrists play this way here (but not this amazing)
Bola is amazing. I heard about him through the linear notes of John Fahey album The Ephinnany of Glenn Jones. I generally check anything that Fahey says he listens to out and I'm glad I did. Bola Sete is amazing. The Ocean recordings are especially beautiful.
Bola is great but Santana is hardly qualified to say things like this.He is always talking about Coltrane,Wes,Miles etc. These guys are great but something went terribly wrong with Carlos. If I never heard him play again,it would be just fine.Really over rated.Dan
Bola. What else can you say? He is just going for it full force! What passion...and chops! He is playing some really, REALLY dense music there and still improvising like mad, all with that wonderful Brazilian feel to it. Why people today listen to music made by machines is a mystery to me. THIS is what it's about...the expression of a human soul through the mind of a genius. It's totally alive.
@JohnLeeJohnLee I think there is beauty in music like this, as well as beauty in music made through machines. I have done both, both take a lot of passion, but I understand what you mean. Something is inherently lost without the presence of physical investment playing.
@JohnLeeJohnLee I agree with everything you say, but Bola Sete also had a very different side to him too. Listen to the acoustic solo work he did for Takoma Records. It is no less amazing and at least as soulful.
@JohnLeeJohnLee This and good machine music are equally wonderful in my eyes. As Florian Schneider of Krafwerk put it: "There is a cold emotion and other emotion, both equally valid."
Great to see these up on youtube. Bola Sete what a great player. the tune is Tour de Force by Dizzy gillespie. All of the Jazz Casual Series of which this was one, have been reissued on DVD, usually with another Artist to make up the time.Art Pepper in this case, although not the best Art Pepper you will ever see. both video's featured here are from this program from 1963
I was fortunate to catch Djalma "Bola Sete" DeAndrade at the Jazz Workshop on Boylston Street in Boston back in 1968. When the backup band went on a break, he remained on stage and continued playing classical pieces until their return and then coninued into another set. The man was extremely talented. His passing in 1987 was a great loss to the music community.
this was featured on Carlos Santana's influences video and Carlos talks for the great Bola Sete and his ability to just make you go into a trance! Total respect Bola!
Does anybody know who his band is? I'm assuming it's his New Brazilian Trio but not sure. It looks like the vid is from the Autentico! days. What a rare talent Bola was. I'm so glad to see a few other people appreciate him as much as I do.
Apparently, 3 of the people who viewed this video can never forgive Bola Sete for what he did to Han Solo.
