  • Bola Sete um dos grandes violonistas brasileiro de todos os tempos, provavelmento contemporaneo de Garoto outro gênio das cordas, e sem dúvida a maneira dos nossos violonistas tocarem hoje deve tudo a esses grandes mestres.

  • If you guys really enjoy brazilian guitarrists, try searching for "Raphael Rabello - Desvairada" here in youtube and you'll know who is the best brazilian guitar player ever. However, Bola Sete is magical, amazing player!!!

  • PSIchiatrisch wertvoll,yes Bola play!

  • He is Pelé on a guitar. Shame, almost nobody knows him here in Brasil... perhaps cause dozens of guitarrists play this way here (but not this amazing)

  • Bola is amazing. I heard about him through the linear notes of John Fahey album The Ephinnany of Glenn Jones. I generally check anything that Fahey says he listens to out and I'm glad I did. Bola Sete is amazing. The Ocean recordings are especially beautiful.

  • Que GRAN GUITARRISTA!!!!

  • Thanks!

  • What's the name of this piece?

  • "Tour de Force" by Dizzy gillespie

vivabossa posted it a few comments down

  • Obrigado a vocês que enviaram esse video, não tinha visto o Bola Sete tocar. Obrigado a optimusdime e ao Youtube. Grato a vocês.

  • MERVEILLEUSE

  • Músic: Tour De Force (Dizzie Gillespie), Jazz Casual (1962).

  • Thanks for posting this...amazing talent...now please exuse me while I throw my guitar out the window....

  • someone must have footage of the Monterrey Festival where Bola played first in this country...??

  • "Bola Sete is as significant as Jimi Hendrix and Segovia, in the sense of having wisdom, knowledge, soul and passion."

    - Carlos Santana

  • Bola is great but Santana is hardly qualified to say things like this.He is always talking about Coltrane,Wes,Miles etc. These guys are great but something went terribly wrong with Carlos. If I never heard him play again,it would be just fine.Really over rated.Dan

  • Bola. What else can you say? He is just going for it full force! What passion...and chops! He is playing some really, REALLY dense music there and still improvising like mad, all with that wonderful Brazilian feel to it. Why people today listen to music made by machines is a mystery to me. THIS is what it's about...the expression of a human soul through the mind of a genius. It's totally alive.

  • you got that right!

  • @JohnLeeJohnLee I think there is beauty in music like this, as well as beauty in music made through machines. I have done both, both take a lot of passion, but I understand what you mean. Something is inherently lost without the presence of physical investment playing.

  • @JohnLeeJohnLee I agree with everything you say, but Bola Sete also had a very different side to him too. Listen to the acoustic solo work he did for Takoma Records. It is no less amazing and at least as soulful.

  • @JohnLeeJohnLee

amazing music .... amazing player ... sometimes i like music made with machines too though ; )

  • Great to see these up on youtube. Bola Sete what a great player. the tune is Tour de Force by Dizzy gillespie. All of the Jazz Casual Series of which this was one, have been reissued on DVD, usually with another Artist to make up the time.Art Pepper in this case, although not the best Art Pepper you will ever see. both video's featured here are from this program from 1963

  • Great, thx for this rare treat!

  • Thanks for this footage of bola sete I saw him around 1972 or 1973 at mesa colledge in san diego calif I was in Awe of his guitar playing.

  • Gooooolllllll!!!!

  • UAU!!!Six strings Pele

  • em uma palavra: PUTAQUEPARIU!!!!!!!!

  • THE best!

Anybody seen videos of the song "paradise love song"?

    Thankz!

  • Bola Sete is thought into motion. Every thought expressed into music. A true genius.

  • A GOD AMONG GUITAR PLAYERS

  • Great player. My store owns his Gibson 345 and I've never heard of him so I figured I'd check him out. I'm impressed.

  • He is The shit!!

  • I wonder if he used nails, it sounds like they were real short, really nice and warm tone!!!

  • I was fortunate to catch Djalma "Bola Sete" DeAndrade at the Jazz Workshop on Boylston Street in Boston back in 1968. When the backup band went on a break, he remained on stage and continued playing classical pieces until their return and then coninued into another set. The man was extremely talented. His passing in 1987 was a great loss to the music community.

  • I'm from brazil and i can say that's amazing!

  • this was featured on Carlos Santana's influences video and Carlos talks for the great Bola Sete and his ability to just make you go into a trance! Total respect Bola!

  • Fabulous! I have recordings by him but I've never seen him play. Thank you!

  • Thank you for this!!!!

  • Excellent!!!

  • I think he is playing with Vince Guaraldi's trio. The other video shows Vince playing the piano in the background. Superb post!

  • These Bossa Nova/Samba/Jazz intersections are always extremely interesting. Where does one begin and the other end?

Brazilian Bola Sete is Old School Cool!

  • great musician! This man swings perfect. Thanks for posting this video

  • Jazz in nylon guitar, like Luiz Bonfá. Very Good!

  • I believe the name of this tune is "Toure de Force"

  • To the non-porthuguese-speakers: "Bola Sete" means "Ball Seven" (the black ball) :-)

  • It don't come any more REAL than that!

  • uhu!

    grande bola sete!

  • big talent Bola Sete:pure guitar,no electronic jokes and tricks!Excellent

  • Does anybody know who his band is? I'm assuming it's his New Brazilian Trio but not sure. It looks like the vid is from the Autentico! days. What a rare talent Bola was. I'm so glad to see a few other people appreciate him as much as I do.

  • I believe it's Vince Guaraldi's working trio (Monty Budwig & Fred Marshall). Vince is playing piano in the second clip.

  • Thanks for the info. Bola has been one of my favorite guitarists for many years.

  • Great stuff. Thanks for uploading this..
