The comment on mini mando was referring to a "bluegrass chop", a type of rhythm played on the mandolin. Wingledingus is right, there is not much chop in these mini mandos.

Haha, "portable mandolin" seems kind of redundant, but I get that it's supposed to be the backpacker design.

Well, the obvious benefits of investing in a $200-$300 travel mandolin are that you can take it anywhere without worrying about causing harm to your $3,000-plus mandolin and it's very light and small for camping trips, cookouts, beach gatherings, etc.
