  • This is my favorite Journey song. But I used to hang out with Jeff when we lived in the same town. I've been seeing him live since before he joined Yngwie Malmsteen. I absolutely LOVE Jeff's voice. He has the 2nd best voice EVER in rock 'n roll, behind Ronnie James Dio.

Jeff sounds fucking FANTASTIC doing this song. I think I like his voice better on it, even though I do love how Steve Perry sings it too. JSS just sounds like brown sugar to me (and I don't even mean that sexually).

  • MAN CRUSH

  • I really like Jeff Soto's voice but still Steve Perry was definitely the best

  • I like this guy's voice better.

  • Haha, Fuck Journey, I like the band but mainly prefer the singers they've had.. (except that Steve A. something guy, he was shit compared to the others). Jeff sang for Malmsteen for fucks sake, he doesn't need these washed up old fools.

And the new vocalist has revived Journey, they're nothing without an excellent vocalist. Find it kinda insulting they would kick this dude out... but hey, they're entitled to make that decision.

  • Good show! Jeff sounds great. Journey let him go because they did not feel he was the sound they were lookin' for. I was upset about Jeff being fired, but he doesn't need Journey.

  • Agree caulinrocker. Soto is a good singer but not for Journey.

  • London's Shepheds Bush, I was there that night, it was a great show

  • Jeff Scott Soto is a genius !

I think they kicked him for the reason NoSteveNOJourney wrote: He's not Perry enough...

I would drive very very far to see JSS + Journey together... And if he sang the new album there would be no question to buy it....

But Arnel does a very good job and he's more Perry than any other guy was ...

Steve Augeri is a sure a good singer... but on Journey he's boring

  • He is a fine singer, no doubt. But they had to change a lot of the keys the songs were in to accomodate him. No need to do that with Arnel Pineda. That stuff about experienced, uber successful guys like Journey being afraid they'd be his back-up band is an idiotic pant load. Jeff is a super talent. He doesn't need Journey or Steve Perry's songs. He's much better off pursuing his own muse, and letting Arnel light up audiences who love Journey. Win-win, in my book, and I'd be they all agree.

  • Arnel plays in lower keys too.

  • WOW !! whatta set of pipes !!! this dude got fu#ked over..Was fired cause Journey was in fear of becoming his backup band...

  • the reason why he got kick out coz he steal jonathan cains job see his playing piano original steve perry never played an instrument.... hehehe

  • Actually Steve Perry played drums and piano among other things. Just not in public much.

  • Jeff Scott Soto + Journey !!!

  • OMG! That VOICE!

    INCREDIBLE!!! <3

    Jeff Scott Soto Forever <3

  • Soto did that when Journey's lead vocalist was hospitalised.

  • chamath1985:

Not exactly, this was a SoulSirkUS gig, recorded about a year before Jeff joint Journey.

  • I like it!!! A LOT!

  • this is cool, alex. I hadn't seen it!

    Thx.

  • You people need the correct info:

Jeff is a "Heldentenor." (A tenor who has a strong baritone timbre).

Steve Perry is a High Tenor/Countertenor.

Freddie Mercury is a Lyric Tenor

  • JSS rocks....he takes chances and wins

  • JSS stands alone....he has extreme talent, style and passion

  • Yeah, nothing against Soto but he was unfit for Journey.

  • He was the best singer Journey ever had.

  • You are so full of it. If he was so great, why did the group basically fire him?

  • Because he is not Perry enough

  • Dude you have no right to say he isnt a great singer. Look what hes accomplished compared to you.

  • AGREE 100%,..Nothin' against Arnel Pineda (nice man, great story..), Steve. Augeri( great singer),..but this JSS, brought a whole new vibe 2 the band...Woulda been interesting 2've heard him sing on their last album...

  • jss was just put on blast for being a band buster.

  • JSS is a baritone and SP is a tenor. He could do Journey songs with him and his piano, but not with Journey. Neil and Ross would have to tune down.

  • His timbre is lower than Perrys, but JSS is a tenor...if he wasn't, he wouldn't even be able to sing any of these notes. And Neil and Ross never had to tune down for JSS.

  • wait....

so youre going to try to tell me

    that JSS is a BARITONE?!?

    WTFH

    wow dude

go listen to any of his Rockstar OST shit

and you tell me hes a fucking baritone

    tsk tsk tsk

  • You clearly haven't listened to some of Soto's stuff. They both are tenor. In this particular song.. ok, fair enough, soto does sound a little deeper than usual but listen to some more before you judge that. But I'm not saying you are wrong about this song.

  • how could JSS ever sings those malmsteen tunes "don't let it end" "I'll see the light" etc. being a baritone? impossible, he is a definitive TENOR!

here is a real baritone, who trained his voice for a studio tenor: Freddie Mercury!

  • LUV IT, Sweet! Plays the piano too.

Isn't there anything that Jeff he can't do...

  • Brutal !!! Good Neal kick his ass...

  • he has a great voice...but he's not fit for journey songs...far off to that legacy sound

  • ok well i have a question....why is he playing the piano and not john cain??? that what i really wnat to no...o o o and where is everyone else like Ross and Neil

  • 'Cause this isn't Journey. This is a fragment of Jeff's acoustic part during a Soul SirKUS show.

    Soul SirkUS was:

    Jeff Scott Soto

    Neil Schon

    Marco Mendoza

    Virgil Donati

  • Jeff is definitely the best singer of our time. I saw him back in the mid-eighties writing history with Yngwie Malmsteen and last week I went to see him live in Germany and I can tell you he's still an amazing singer and the best frontman I've ever seen!

Non-believers should check out his Queen stuff ...it even impressed Brian May who he's good friends with ever since. This man can sing everything!

    Rock on bro!

  • like everyone says, Soto is pretty good, but Perry will always be the true voice of Journey.

  • He's got the power but lacks the emotion that goes in singing those Journey songs with Steve Perry on it. Otherwise, he's not bad not at all but I've heard him better with Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force and Talisman. What else can I say, give the guy a chance, can't have everything perfect in this world!

  • Jeff Scott Soto has a great voice but he's just not for journey.

  • JSS is maybe even better because SP wanted to sing to blues. JSS has a rock and blues tone in him. They are both great singers.

  • This Is beautiful. I never took the time to listen to JSS while he was with Journey because I am a big Steve Perry fan and I didn't give him a chance. Well, I was wrong as hell! JSS has an amazing voice and I think Journey f**ked up again by letting another great singer get away! Their Loss...JSS will do just fine without Journey!

  • Journey should get a girl to sing, they've had almost al the guys out there now!

  • everyone hatin' on journey cuz steve isn't there is just lame. Ive seen them 4 times, not with soto, but he is got some killer pipes and the crowd is always awesome...quit hatin'

  • I've been a Journey fan since the 80's. Journey was great with Steve but the band wants to continue and Steve is never coming back. If you like the Journey sound then why not give someone else a chance? Jeff is an amazingly talented man.

  • Get over it. SP is never coming back and Journey wants to continue .

  • JSS is great...

  • wtf is he wearing on his head? Not only does he look terrible he sounds worse. Journey just isnt the same anymore.

  • biggest what??????

  • Aww man, no way that this can be Journey's new lead singer, I mean I aint hating on the new guy but if he wants a career he should start his own band and not try to become a part of the biggest band in history!

  • you should probably learn a little bit of metal and rock. JSS is one of the greatest ever, being in Malmsteen, Rudi Pell, and even used his voice for the movie "Rock Star". Journey is a big step, but his career was far good enough before. Just look in wiki, and you'll see he has recorded more than 20 albums

  • sorry... 43 albums to be accurated. Check it out and realize we're talking aobut one of the biggest

  • Going to see them tonight . . . YES!!!

  • That's what I'm talkng about. I hope he does that more. Put his own voice in and not be a Perry clone. He can sing. I hope he does that on the next Journey recordings.

  • Looking forward to hearing the next Journey album with JSS on lead vocals.

  • Man, I actually asked Jeff to beg Deen to let him do this song live for me. I like Deen's version just fine, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE Jeff doing this song!

  • EL SOTO ES UNICO

  • Dude, you are amazing. That was excellent.

  • 6 un mito jeff!

  • Jeff ¿donde está tu límite????

  • Frickin' AWESOME!!! JSS RULES
