If you read the book, the doctor is with her (she is dying) and then, the father come to tell her how sorry he is to make her leave Alfredo(Armand). Then Alfredo arrives and they are all happy, but she dyes in alfredo's arms. Their names in the book it's Marguerite et Armand (by Alexandre Dumas: La dame aux camélias)
@LysBlanco In Dumas' book, she doesn't die in his arms. He comes only to see her body. She writes him a farewell letter but he's still abroad when she dies. In the opera, she dies in his arms, but it appears that in this movie version, the director chose to make the presence of the other characters an illusion and have her die alone to accentuate her tragedy.
sono pienamente d'accordo. Eppure sembra siamo in pochi a considerare Domingo orrendo IN QUESTO RUOLO.
Merci !

Where's Alfredo in the last thirty seconds? Did she just imagine him to be there in this Zeffirelli version? He's done stranger things.
