Well with respect TYT, you probably don't know all the details of the bill being proposed, so for all you know, maybe there was something attached to it that was unrelated or went too far in dealing with this issue. Virtually nobody wants women to get gang raped and then not get justice for what happened to them. I'm guessing there's more to the story that we haven't been told. Just as there was probably more to the story than Republicans told about Kerry and Obama's voting records.

This issue could not be more simple. There is no justifiable reason to vote against this amendment. Voting against it is an indefensible act. It proves where those Republican senators' priorities are and the only aspect of the whole thing that is worse than voting against this act is the fact that citizens aren't rioting in the streets calling for their heads on a silver platter.
You are correct Rape is illegal, but when this 19 year old girl signed her contract in the fine print there was a clasue that said if you encounter assualt, rape or abuse that your case will be heard by an arbitrator and not a court in the United States.
This amendment would put a stop to that fine print and bring her case to court to seek justice from crimes against her.

Also, the arbitrator has to be agreed with both parties, so i'm sure that it's fair to both sides. DId any of you actually read the amendment? It says it will stop funding companies who have "arbitration clauses" in their employees contracts, which force employees to settle civil disputes within the company. Clearly, criminal charges, such as rape, would be settled in court.
Those republicans do not support rape. Who would go on record voting in a way that supports rape? The ignorance of the average person here, and willingness to accept anything they hear in the media is amazing.
All well and good, but a) the case typically sited here was NOT settled in criminal court, and b) while assault and rape are clearly the extremes of the problem, the same problems are going to be there for any case. Arbitration can and has been used to slide any judgement made regarding a suite grossly in the company's favor.
The problem is when arbitration clauses, like in this case, are used in attempts to STOP criminal charges (like rape) from going to court. There was only recently a ruling from a judge to get this into courts; a ruling that probably took place after this bill is drafted.
I don't blame Franken for trying to cover all the bases necessary to stop companies from trying to effectively legalize gang rape.
Ok, so which court heard this case about the drugging, gang rape, causing injury that required surgery to repair her vagina!!!

Well with respect TYT, you probably don't know all the details of the bill being proposed, so for all you know, maybe there was something attached to it that was unrelated or went too far in dealing with this issue. Virtually nobody wants women to get gang raped and then not get justice for what happened to them. I'm guessing there's more to the story that we haven't been told. Just as there was probably more to the story than Republicans told about Kerry and Obama's voting records.

This issue could not be more simple. There is no justifiable reason to vote against this amendment. Voting against it is an indefensible act. It proves where those Republican senators' priorities are and the only aspect of the whole thing that is worse than voting against this act is the fact that citizens aren't rioting in the streets calling for their heads on a silver platter.

You are correct Rape is illegal, but when this 19 year old girl signed her contract in the fine print there was a clasue that said if you encounter assualt, rape or abuse that your case will be heard by an arbitrator and not a court in the United States.
This amendment would put a stop to that fine print and bring her case to court to seek justice from crimes against her.
The 2 out of 3 republicans are ok with private contractors raping citizen of their own country.

This wasn't an evil event...we don't even know if it's true yet considering as far as i know, no one was proven guilty yet(i might be wrong on this, so correct me if i am). This story has almost nothing to do with this bill...they didn't make this bil because they felt sorry for the girl...really, it doesn't even help her. Even with the bill passed, it just says they won't associate with the contractors anymore, thats it.

But you can go to coart afterwords if i recall correctly...isn't arbitration essentially a means to find an easy way out, like a settlement. Also, the arbitrator has to be agreed with both parties, so i'm sure that it's fair to both sides. Just because they go to arbitration doesn't mean the people who raped her get off scott free...just means they might not get sued much...

Let me reprase that. They have lots to do with each other, but morales have only negative effects on the economy. Slave labor is just as efficient and less costly than other labor, that would help boost the economy. But since it's morally wrong we no longer use slave labor, restraining the economy.

The bill is basically a way to get the government to sue for you if you are raped, and take a percentage of that money for themselves.

DId any of you actually read the amendment? It says it will stop funding companies who have "arbitration clauses" in their employees contracts, which force employees to settle civil disputes within the company. Clearly, criminal charges, such as rape, would be settled in court.
Those republicans do not support rape. Who would go on record voting in a way that supports rape? The ignorance of the average person here, and willingness to accept anything they hear in the media is amazing.

All well and good, but a) the case typically sited here was NOT settled in criminal court, and b) while assault and rape are clearly the extremes of the problem, the same problems are going to be there for any case. Arbitration can and has been used to slide any judgement made regarding a suite grossly in the company's favor.

The problem is when arbitration clauses, like in this case, are used in attempts to STOP criminal charges (like rape) from going to court. There was only recently a ruling from a judge to get this into courts; a ruling that probably took place after this bill is drafted.
I don't blame Franken for trying to cover all the bases necessary to stop companies from trying to effectively legalize gang rape.
