I'm not the best chess player, so I don't know, but at 5:00, wouldn't it be slightly better to *be* captured, and instead play pawn to H3? That way, black's queen stays pretty holed up behind the pawns.
Further, after black captures your bishop, you could reclaim it with knight E2, preparing to get it into some more active positions?
@kah13176 That's what I was thinking. I don't think he was trying to show us white's best move though, just more of the concept that it can be advantageous to trade off a bad bishop for a good one :)
in that game, taking out white's good bishop seems like the type of move that could potentially turn the whole game around in black's favor. also seeing how white is basically left with a boxed-in bad bishop.
assuming that white knew that the bishop trade was not equal material, what if white decided to draw out a pawn on e4 or d5 in order to affect center control?
Now my chess abilities? Total shit. I can't seem to think two moves ahead. And can't remember one opening from the next. Let alone coordinated attacks at the same time recognizing what my opponent is trying to set up...
I can play a 9 year old and lose. Sad... But I will listen to these videos and see if I can figure something out.. If you can teach a dummy like me... You are good.
I had a friend. Black... A total flake. he worked for me and I had to fire him, he was that flaky But his chess abilities were unbelievable. We were at a tavern and he was playing and winning. Some fella with a Russian accent, all cocky and mouthy said "$50, I beat you". My friend asked me to front him the money, but I was too chicken... My friend kicked that man's ass from move one. Without a hesitation and no longer than 15 seconds per move to think, he crushed that guy. No contest... Wow.
I'm a starting chess player. Have known how all the pieces moved for a long time but just recently started to look into openings and strategies. You videos are great - covering all the bases, the important concepts and the quality of narration is excellent. Thanks a million!
That was a very good tutorial. In chess, my style is trying to predict my opponents move and think accordingly. I can't come up with my own strategy. What should I do ?? please help me. Thanks
I liked how you explained trading good bishop for bad bishop. I'm still really new to chess strategies so I found that extremely helpful especially because one of my biggest weaknesses is I almost always block myself in :P
You are doing a great job with these videos. These are subtle secrets that are not taught ab initio. Nice work. Please keep these videos coming. My daughters (6 and 5) love playing chess and I try to look for materials for them. Right now they are very good at opening games (developing) but get stuck on middle games. Any beginner recommendations from your videos?
Great job man... I think there is a lot of people out there that know a lot about this stuff and just completely kick my butt! This attempts to even out the playing field making for better, more competitive exciting games for all.
Great video I'm a amateur long time player who recently is going into competitive chess and this has been amazingly helpfull I will subscribe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love your vids. Do you think that you could play an actual game and record it? Explaining why you make your moves as you play? That would be very interesting and helpful to me. Thanks for making these awesome videos.
I really have to work on those little details to make my chess game better.
O and just one thing, I don't know if it is just me, but I like the video's better were you use a coloured board, like the blue or the brown one. But I don't know if anyone else feels the same way.
