  • lol is this a joke?

  • The PLENTY is "on par" with the US FED note, but there hasnt been any issues of inflaton ?

    HA !

in other words, the PLENTY is pegged to and backed by the US dollar.

But really, the PLENTY is play money and when its time for real currency, you need plenty of REAL dollars.

  • @rllang01 the idea is that a visitor will not always expchange all of the plenties, meaning a small bit of the cash in town is left by forgetful visitors. also, because you can only spend it in town, you have to support there economy if you have the plenty notes. It's really just a bit of fun and a small boost to the economy. it's not a federal reserve revamp.

  • @mattybock "It's really just a bit of fun", eh ? Like I said "the PLENTY is play money".

Forgetful visitors leaving a small bit of change behind is what I call "loose change economics"...

  • If the plenty became an economic trend and other cities induced their own monetary regime, let's say New York City and a hypothetical currency the "york". The cost of living would make the york much more valuable than the plenty. One of the main goals mentioned by Lyle was to have sustainable circulation in Pittsboro, but if people were using the plenty, then USD would lose value in Pittsboro. Imagine the value of the USD in NYC if the york existed.

  • Now assume more US cities each printed monies. Demand for city currency would rise. Cities that are still on a USD basis who have domestic imports, for example, peaches from Georgia(city currency) to a grocery in Pennsylvania(USD) would pay a higher price for peaches. Inflation would occur in PA. United economic stagflation? Thoughts/opnions/criticisms?

  • This is incredible - the Americans reclaiming thier towns, county and country. All towns needs to do this and the Local Sheriff should enforce the law - not federal police or international bankers.

  • Awesome! When things get bad, this town is going to be better off.

If democracy now had more shows like this and less shows defending the illegal aliens, I wouldn't have canceled my monthly donation. As it was for a while there it seemed all she spoke of was the noble efforts of illegals to get their well deserved amnesty, but she didn't mention a word about how illegals drive wages down for working class Americans. It finally drove me so crazy I canceled.

  • This is showing that America's heartland is starting to get fed up. This should serve as a warning to DC.

  • With all static aside, the main oposition to this will come from the IRS that can't acess the value of income of the Plenty. Expect a class action by the IRS against you. Second, what makes your curency different from the Liberty Dollar? I can only hope that you win your day in court. I doubt you will, but damn, go for it.

  • How dare you go against the International Bankers. You will be the next WACO!

  • I like that some are thinking of other ways. I watched a few of Alex Collier who has knowledge of 50 some ET's, he said that none of them use money. Each work with different things to help each other out. This may happen if the dollar collapse, but then we could truly find a better way for energy, getting drugs from doctors when we really need them etc. It is this that would bring us all true freedom. I challenge everyone to think of a better way. One example is the venus project.

  • Keep up the good work and let us know more.

    Thanks.

    Roy

  • Woo Hoo! I saw this on a vid from overseas, and was told Never Here!!

    Well, hope springs! love,p

  • Ithaca Hours, Ithaca New York:

Ithaca Hours is a local currency system that promotes local economic strength and community self-reliance in ways which will support economic and social justice, ecology, community participation and human aspirations in and around Ithaca, New York.

  • I agree with this town but I hope those guys have "plenty" of firearms and a defensive plan when the government Gestapo goons show up to shut it down. First impressions tells me these people are "Hippies" and defenseless so I figure they will role over and surrender when big brother comes a calling.

  • this is legal?

  • the legal system exists to serve the people... not the other way around. If the people want something that is what the law should reflect... Is this legal? The question should be, is a law that contradicts the desires of the people legal?

  • I bet the feds are going to crack down on this:(

  • I bet your right!

They are making their own economy, bottom up. Brilliant solution to the problems we face.

Truly free market currency!!! Not controlled by the federal reserve or any of that crap. Lyle is a pretty cool dude =)

Local economics merging with grass-roots democratic ideals awesome stuff!!! If the United States is going to survive it needs to organize in a similar manner, DECENTRALIZE the economic control.

WTB: free market money supply and economy for the USA

  • This is true free market capitalism at its best. This is what the federal reserve really should be doing with those dollars, issuing them according to how much wealth is really in this country. When you think about it, their should only be a few billion circulating through the economy, not 10's of trillions of dollars, because their isn't much wealth in the country. Maybe only a few million even.

  • Great idea. We should also dismantle the union and have our own gov. independently.

    BRAVO N.Carolina

  • Just like Disney Dollars! (but not evil lol)

  • These people arent TALKING they are DOING.

  • oh boy, wait til the government gets a hold of this community....

  • they are too stupid to mess with these folks.

  • Don't forget that bio diesel is taking valuable land away for food to feed the ever increasing population.

  • I met this guy in person a while back, for a tour of the bio-diesel plant, he works on a lot of interesting projects. My only problem with Plenty is that it's backed by federal reserve notes and only federal reserve notes. This means that as the dollar becomes increasingly inflated, so will Plenty. Other than that, I think that it's great for what it is- a local currency that promotes local economy.

  • What a very smart and enlightened people...

    Congrats!

  • Way to go Pittsboro! Your goods & services need not be valued (or devalued) nor regulated by anyone but yourselves.

This is a wonderful idea which I hope catches on nationwide.

  • This idea has its roots with the colonists, before the Rothschilds placed their first central bank in this country at the hands of Alexander Hamilton. Our Constitutional currency is not the Federal Reserve Note, but the Spanish taler, either in pure silver at 371.25 grains or in coin silver at 416 grains. The FED needs to get gone, and our Congress needs to restart "coining" our currency, per our Constitution. Peace2U!!

  • How exciting, hell yeah!

  • Just when i was getting all depress and all.

For whatever reason , i find this story uplifting. Thanks for the upload Donovon.
