I like i think she did it the way that was her way and personally i feel everyone should look at the whole thing and not just the singer....yes amy lee stands out just as well as kurt but listen to see if the band "evanescence" itself is doing the song justice. me personally i feel the guitar is tuned correctly and she tried her best. I am both crazy about Nirvana and Evanescence but I don't think it is a very good cover actually... Indeed, the songs is supposed to be quite pathetic so it works with Kurt Cobain's broken voice, but I think Amy Lee's voice is too beautiful to be almost wrong and painful like it is in this version ^^

Evanescence doesn't have ANYTHING to do with Nirvana ._. you just can't compare two different music styles, It doesn't have any sense at all...If you don't like it, perfect. Wow people don't understand what a cover is. A cover song is a song by a band who likes another band and their music. They know this song because they like it a lot and have probably listened to the original a million times. It's different because it's a different band. That is how it should be. It shouldn't be an exact copy or else what is the point?
A good cover not only gives tribute the original band but also puts a unique spin on the art that the original band made. I think Evanescence does this beautifully. Also, I just love Amy's voice!

They improved greatly upon Over the Hills and Far Away without changing a single note!

I like i think she did it the way that was her way and personally i feel everyone should look at the whole thing and not just the singer....yes amy lee stands out just as well as kurt but listen to see if the band "evanescence" itself is doing the song justice. me personally i feel the guitar is tuned correctly and she tried her best. No one ever sounds just like nirvana, but its all about giving tribute to the band.so much respect to who has the balls to cover nirvana.

I am both crazy about Nirvana and Evanescence but I don't think it is a very good cover actually... Indeed, the songs is supposed to be quite pathetic so it works with Kurt Cobain's broken voice, but I think Amy Lee's voice is too beautiful to be almost wrong and painful like it is in this version ^^

I don't understand how the hell do you compare Evanescence with Nirvana. Evanescence doesn't have ANYTHING to do with Nirvana ._. you just can't compare two different music styles, It doesn't have any sense at all...If you don't like it, perfect. But Nirvana it's not better than Evanescence, just like Evanescence it's not better than Nirvana, because you CAN'T compare them, being so different. Wow people don't understand what a cover is. A cover song is a song by a band who likes another band and their music. They know this song because they like it a lot and have probably listened to the original a million times. It's different because it's a different band. That is how it should be. A good cover not only gives tribute the original band but also puts a unique spin on the art that the original band made. I think Evanescence does this beautifully. Also, I just love Amy's voice!

It doesn't sound sincere. It sounds like she's trying too hard. She's frigid. Instead of keeping the song the way it was and letting the powerful simplicity create emotion, she felt the need to add her own complications and emphasis. That killed the feeling. Art isn't as subjective as you think...

@RecklessTwistedYouth She already changed the song by singing it with her voice. She sounds a lot different from Cobain and could have brought a charm of her own just in that. But when you go and change the notes and points of emphasis, the changes could be for better or worse. Her changes are for the worse. If you want to hear a good cover, check out any by Night Wish. They improved greatly upon Over the Hills and Far Away without changing a single note!

Mostly non-mainstream bands... Admittedly, neither Evan. nor Nirv. make the list, but both bands have a couple songs I really like. Going Under by Ev. succeeds where this cover fails. How about you?

As you might know, Blink stole a song from SW and trivialized it, though it's a better remake than this one. NOFX sings in a SW song, and SW got The Queers their start on lookout! records. My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, I think, outdoes Rob Zombie in making sleaze and satanism danceable. Check out Confessions of a Knife, if you don't believe me... Let me know what you think!

He added "Man-eating orchids forgive no one just yet." he put Orchids because they reminded kurt of vaginas and rest because he was fighting with courtney at the time. "Heart Shaped Box" because he and courtney had a collection of heart shaped boxes. Theirs a lot more to the story of how and when he wrote the song but point not really a love song. "Meat-eating orchids forgive no one just yet." This describes cancer perfectly, and it forgives nobody, not even a child. "Throw down your umbelical noose so i can climb right back" This refers to the child going back to a familiar state of non existance. Its not about Kurts wife.

Nirvana writes in metaphor and each and every metaphor in this song points towards this child having cancer. Dont take it from me look up the video of Kurt saying thats what its about himself.

The cancer is like a magnet and just sticks to him multiplying. A tar pit is black and sticks to you if you happen to get it on you, just like cancer.
