Guys, search in the market for VLC stream & convert. And read the guide on their homepage. It gets a little technical, but the end result is worth it. You can browse your files on the "server" and stream them to your android phone.

If you do it like this you must add the files on the server to the stream list. With the app you can browse the servers disks, very important i think.
