However, many agencies have what they refer to as a "performance expectation goal". Same thing basically as a quota, but it's neutral in court should the quota issue arise.

The police are trained in simple manipulation tactics that get people to give up information or their rights when they don't really have to. When the kid admits to speeding, he just incriminated himself. We have the right to not incriminate ourselves, so basically, he just waived that right. The police use those tactics because it potentially makes their jobs easier.

In some areas of the country cops are not bad people and you can deal with them politely. Where I live I had 5 officers pull me over because my registration had expired, I was then dragged out of my car and handcuffed because i glanced to the side for a second while answering a question. I got stopped while heading home from 12 hours of grueling factory work. I asked why I was pulled over 1st and the officer wouldn't tell me. After he took my info, he told me I looked tired; a certain so to speak. Profiling was his motive for stopping me. It had nothing to do with breaking the law. I got no ticket and was sent on my way.
An officer can allways find a reason to pull someone over. If you try to be a smartass to demand fifth amendment rights when he approach he will only be annoyed and go over your car finding some mistakes to write upp more tickets on. There are better places to be a revolutionary than when stopped for speeding.
He didn't give up his 5th Amendment rights, as he did not admit to anything. He replied "I guess I was speeding." That would be a logical assumption if you were just driving down the road and got pulled over. Why the hell else would you stop me. Also, as a former police officer I asked that question many times and got a lot of different answers, but the one he gave was common. Never used one in court.

I've been pulled over 3 times in my entire life. 2 were for expired tags. But 2 different cars. I knew why he stopped me before he even said so. (I know my car. @blindescape01 i agree to an extent. We're not really allowing corruption, the police team up with the judicial system to make themselves above the law. In some areas of the country cops are not bad people and you can deal with them politely. Where I live I had 5 officers pull me over because my registration had expired, I was then dragged out of my car and handcuffed because i glanced to the side for a second while answering a question. They then searched my car illegally and found nothing.

The cop came to me when I was cuffed and said "I love scaring the shit out of people. I've had 12 speeding tickets since 2005 and 6 seatbelt tickets I deserved every one of them and never gave the officer a hard time for doing his job. Tickets are not that big a deal sure they are expensive and make your insurance go up but they can all be avoided, don't break the law.

if your straight and polite with an officer, odds are you will get away with a warning. ive been pulled over 4 times for speeding. not one ticket yet.
also... if you start up with... "why did you pull me over" the officer will probably counter with "why do you think i pulled you over..."

I got stopped while heading home from 12 hours of grueling factory work. I asked why I was pulled over 1st and the officer wouldn't tell me. After he took my info, he told me I looked tired; a certain so to speak. Profiling was his motive for stopping me. It had nothing to do with breaking the law. I got no ticket and was sent on my way.

An officer can allways find a reason to pull someone over. If you try to be a smartass to demand fifth amendment rights when he approach he will only be annoyed and go over your car finding some mistakes to write upp more tickets on. There are better places to be a revolutionary than when stopped for speeding.

He didn't give up his 5th Amendment rights, as he did not admit to anything. He replied "I guess I was speeding." That would be a logical assumption if you were just driving down the road and got pulled over. Why the hell else would you stop me. Also, as a former police officer I asked that question many times and got a lot of different answers, but the one he gave was common. Never used one in court.

Most police officers now are being trained to tell you why they pulled you over for. Because the question "Do you know why I pulled you over?" can come back and bit the officer in the ass if it goes to court, making it look like the police officer didn't have a reason for the stop.

Most officers are required to identify themselves, despite typically being in full uniform, and advise the motorist why they were stopped. The officer will likely continue and request to see your drivers license, proof of insurance and occasionally the registration. This video will not help you much during a traffic stop. While it is not necessary to answer the officers questions, it will only likely delay you going on your way or give the officer a reason to find a few more violations.

I've been pulled over 3 times in my entire life. 2 were for expired tags. But 2 different cars. I knew why he stopped me before he even said so. (I know my car. And am very self aware of my actions) But one time I didn't know why. Turns out I had a burned out break light. That was the only time I was nervous and questioned. Especially since I was going the speed limit. Every crazy scenario came into my head before I found out why.

In Australia we have kilometres per hour. I was doing 80 plus in a 60 zone when asked the "do you know" question.
Me "maybe a little over the speed limit - not more than 10 percent".
Him "anyone else would have given me a number"
Me "ok then not more than 66 kilometres an hour."
Him "I can tell you that it was nothing with a 6 in it"
I resisted the temptation to say "what about 86 then?". Without his speed gun as evidence he let me off with a warning.
