you are a really good commentator. you not only explain what is going on in an approachable, yet detailed, manner but you also infuse your analyze with a lively passion that is quite enjoyable.
It has come to my attention that an International Master has posted a couple of very relevant videos for this Trap - with a demonstration of very interesting resources available to both sides.
The channel to check out is:
"MrHobbit1"
check out the Siberian Trap couple of videos.
I am amazed because in one of the ideas, it's as if White does a counter gambit based on the Q-c7 to really get quality pieces.
@kingscrusher On further inspection, far too much optimism for White seems to be placed on this variation : [Event "?"] [Site "?"] [Date "????.??.??"] [Round "?"] [White "?"] [Black "?"] [Result "*"] [PlyCount "33"] 1. e4 c5 2. d4 cxd4 3. c3 dxc3 4. Nxc3 Nc6 5. Nf3 e6 6. Bc4 Qc7 7. O-O Nf6 8. Nb5 Qb8 9. e5 Ng4 (9... Nxe5 10. Nxe5 Qxe5 11. Re1 Qc5 12. Bf1 a6 13. Be3 Qc6) 10. Bf4 a6 11. Nd6+ Bxd6 12. exd6 b5 The one game at chessgames - com in this line - Black wins. Black seems okay here.
@kingscrusher I replied to the comments you left me on the video I uploaded. I'm sorry to have taken so long to get back to you but I just don't check my youtube very often. You'll have to view the comments on the page that uploaded the video to. I left three comments since they were rather large. They are a bit out of order on the page because there were two many characters so I had to post three times. The two comments at the top of the page should be read after my first reply further down.
Very nice. I love traps. But the the thing that always worries me is going for a trap and your opponent messages you "Oh the old fishing pole trap huh?" and your trap has been spotted your opponent knows it, and your position is blown to bits.
But please do upload more trap videos, I like them and enjoy trying to use them because when they do work, it's a beautiful thing.
thanks for posting this. it has happened to me a couple times in the past in blitz and i fell into the trap. it's great to see how it works from both board perspectives. cheers
GM Jesse Kraai has analysed this trap in a video. He suggests playing Nd5 to counter black's Ng4, which leads to lots of problems for black. If you search here on you tube for Kraai Morra, you will find his video. Congrats on the million and thanks for all the great videos!
Aha! -i've used exactly this in blitz (at first inaccurately prep-ing Qb7 with a3 duh!--no need ofcourse). I've pulled this stunt a number of times -so simple n effective but SO often after Nf6 white DOES play h3
i hate playing vs. the sicilian; i find limited prospects if black plays accurately; he as often as not fianchettos his black B and that always cause me no end of problems for some reason
gambiting a pawn from the get-go for dev't certainly opens it up nicely
@ChristianWijnia Good question. Check out "The Secret of chess" by Chessbase - they give a free sample.
Rf1 takes protection off f2 - which is useful for black if black plays Bc5
I checked with Stockfish and this seems to be a significant advantage to black if White is forced to play Be3 because Nxe3 and the pawns are not too good.
Either g3 or even Ncb5 is preferred. Ncb5 keeps control of d4 to be able to play h3, so maybe that is also an idea.
I was expecting the move to be h5, like the fishing pole. As a low-level chess player I've had some success using the fishing pole, but if I recall it's also looked upon highly by Brian Wall, who I also recall beating you in a 5-minute game awhile back. :)
white woudlnt castle after Qc7. i mean the black queen is already there to attack

In the final position what about 1 Nb5 Qb8 2 h3 ?
gamegenius4 1 year ago
@gamegenius4 Yes Stockfish also recommended this as an alternative to g3.
kingscrusher 1 year ago
@gamegenius4 After h3, black can play h5 and get an h file attack. I've posted a video on the Siberian Trap tday, showing you this variation.

This doesn't particularly concern this video, but I'm just a little curius KC: have you seen Magnus Carlsens collaboration as a model for G-star :)?
